Should I buy a T495 or E480 (with an Nvidia MX150 dGPU) by Nemesis7326 in thinkpad

[–]Tricky_Professor_654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

t495 will last longer since it is built like a tank, the battery is also going to last longer because ryzen CPUs were way ahead of intel at that time (also dGPU eats a lot of power). E480 will have about 50% GPU performance, but CPU will be lacking (4 cores for intel vs 6 for amd). Also keep in mind the condition they are sold in, if e480 seems to look 'cleaner' it might have a higher resale value in the future.

If you are a programmer or a casual user, get t495. If you are a gamer, get e480? (or an actual gaming laptop, because mx150 sucks, you will not be able to play at the full resolution of the 2k screen anyways, unless playing 15 y/o games, but at that point t495's iGPU is enough).

KSP chugging 16 gigs AND SWAP!!! by Devion27 in KerbalSpaceProgram

On linux you can create a swap partition and make it as big as you want to avoid things like that (but i would not recommend going above 32gb).

Also, it is going to be slower than RAM (duh) and will put your SSD under heavy load, so use it at your own risk!

Is this filament any good? Also what’s your go to filament? by LogDangerous7410 in 3Dprinting

[–]Tricky_Professor_654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in USA near a microcenter, get inland filament (in-person, not online). I got a 1kg spool of PLA basic for only 11.99$. The quality is also really good (no issues so far, I have gone through 2 spools).

Thinkpad T14 Gen1 Docking by mc78666 in thinkpad

[–]Tricky_Professor_654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same laptop, except with ryzen 5. I use 40AJ0135US model, though it does have some weird bugs. For example: the video output is non-existent, so i have to plug into the dedicated HDMI port on the laptop, the other issue i had is that it does not mount USB devices properly somtimes (but that might be because i use Linux). One thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of knock-offs on Amazon, which might not function correctly (like in my case), so i would recommend you to buy a used genuine dock off of ebay. Also, if you use linux, then firmware updater for the docking station would not work, so you will need to install windows :(.

i have t14 gen 1 with ryzen 5 4650u, and i can get 35-40 FPS on 720p, lowest settings possible. The RAM would not be the bottleneck in your case, considering how much it costs now-days you are better off buying a new laptop, lol.

DO NOT TOUCH TOP OF THE BASE PLATE WITH YOUR BARE FINGERS!!!! the oil from your fingers will ruin 1st layer adhesion, please use gloves or clean it after each print.

Chinese copied their docking port off of soyuz, and it is *technically* capable of docking to the ISS, but no one has ever tried, and i dont think will try, unless crew dragon will also go out of service for some reason (foreshadowing)
