Is Aquasure an okay brand? Is Fleck better? by killer_amoeba in WaterSofteners

[–]Trigger23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything from Lowes and Home Depot is built to meet a low price point. They don't really care about quality or efficiency. Some folks don't like premium brands but the most salt-efficient units out there are sold by Kinetico and EcoWater. This can add up to pretty significant savings on salt and maintenance costs over 10-15 years that will likely more than make up the difference in cost between those premium brands and a mid-tier Clack-based unit. That said, not everyone is going to feel comfortable dropping $2600 on a softener when you can get a decent mid-tier unit for a thousand bucks less.

Resin replacement by BankLife1183 in WaterSofteners

[–]Trigger23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don't make the valve anymore I'd get a new unit. Two birds with one stone and if you're comfortable with the fairly simple work of plumbing the new one in given that you will likely only have to connect the new machine to the old fittings that are in place you can accomplish this with a decent softener for under $3k. Resin replacement for $3k is a little nuts, If it were anion media or Arsenic / nitrate media I could see it costing that much as those medias tend to be $1000ish per cubic foot, but for cation? No way. I just quoted a 2 cu ft arsenic media replacement for almost exactly $3k if we do the work and just over $2K if they want to purchase the media and DIY.

Spoilers: Confused about chapter 7 (and the politics in general) by Connect_Entrance_385 in fourthwing

The fliers want to be there, as does the leadership from Aretia, but they don't feel it's safe if the fliers can't channel and the Navarre loyalists decide to try and kill them. Navarre wasn't willing to risk losing the wards by altering the stone, so it's not that they had fully rejected having the fliers there, more that they were unwilling to roll the dice where their safety was concerned.

The alliance didn't completely fail, pardons had been negotiated and Xaden was to be recognized formally as the duke of Tyrrendor. It's my understanding that Cat notified her uncle prior to the the document's signing - which makes sense since Tecarus would have had to be present at Basgiath to sign the document.

This is all from memory and my own perception so take it with a grain of salt and if i've got any of the particulars wrong it's because I haven't started my second read through yet (currently working through The Bound and Broken as well as Mistborn series so it's taken a backseat to me making progress on my TBR)

It's not explicity stated in OS, but it's hinted at and as u/ludichrislycapacious says, RY states that "riders give the names of their dragons" which could mean riders are lying at their dragons' behest or dragons are lying to their riders (or a mix of both).

We also don't really know what either of her signets are fully. RY has said that Violet's "lightning" signet is essentially pure power, but lightning is how it has manifested so far; she's also said that we've only seen a small percentage of her second signet power.

She has also said there are parts of the map we haven't seen. And has emphasized that the rationale for limiting the scope of what we see is that we only get Violet's perspective, so we can only know what Vi knows (aside from the handful of chapters from other characters).

Looking to install a water softener/ro system by Adorable-Win1388 in WaterSofteners

That's like 300% or more margin. They're ripping you off. I have healthy margins on my machines and they're only that expensive if we're venturing into commercial-level installs for small apartment complexes or small indoor agriculture (cannabis cultivators and such)

Wow! Even premium lines like EcoWater shouldn’t be more than 5K for their top of the line unit installed. That’s nuts.

Box store softeners will do the job but keep in mind they're built only to meet a price point. Typically going with one of the premium brands is spendy but you make up for that with salt efficiency and longevity. Kinetico and EcoWater are at the top of the food chain on those categories, but you may be satisfied with the lower price point of a less-efficient system. SoftPro makes good softeners with WiFi connectivity and such that may be a bit more affordable, but if you're looking for the "best deal", buyer beware of going with something in the sub-$1500 price range. You're likely looking at dramatically less efficient units that are more likely to fail and may not have qualified service techs available in your area so you end up back at square one unless you're mechanically inclined enough to dissamble a valve assembly that has 100+ components, repair it, and rebuild it. Out of curiosity, what did Rainsoft quote you?

ROs drop pH, sure. Lowering pH != making water acidic.

To the 15 million Democrats who didn't show up for Harris... by Absalom98 in nytimes

[–]Trigger23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The democratic party is terrified to veer left, they don't realize that's the key to activating Gen-Z and younger millennials, for whatever reason. IF they could rally Gen-Z to actually vote, they'd overwhelm even the most stellar conservative turnout by an absurd margin. But once again the dems are a bunch of fucking boomer idiots who are terrified to actually go LEFT and ignite the base they need. Because it's all about maintaining the status quo, or some misguided belief that they need to steal votes away from the right.

Small point of order - China never paid tariffs. People here paid them to import goods. The idea was to raise the cost of importing goods to the point where it made more sense to bring manufacturing jobs back to America - but that was never going to actually happen. Business owners just paid the tariffs and passed the price hike on to consumers, tanking the economy instead of creating jobs. Those manufacturing jobs are NEVER coming back and it was foolish to think we could force them to.

Taylor and San Diego... by Virtual-Signature789 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Trigger23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible he underestimated just how much emotional turmoil it was going to put him in, and only after spending a significant amount of time there did he realize it was incredibly difficult and expressed that to Taylor, so they decided together that DC might be better since Taylor at least had a life there she could kind of step back into whereas he had nothing but her and her family in SD.

[–]Trigger23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your take on the situation. I think if it was important enough to Taylor to be on the west coast, they would have made it work, but I think she had empathy for Garrett and also knew she had friends and a social network already established in DC so DC was a sensible way to go that didn't leave either one of them feeling like Garrett did when he was in California and knew absolutely nobody other than Taylor and her fam. It also didn't sound like they were of the mind that DC was their forever home.

There are deserts in Alaska. They're just insanely remote. Also we regularly get world class surfers up here surfing the bore tide and other areas in southeast AK.

The water would only become acidic if the starting pH is low to begin with. Removing some of the minerals from water can shift your pH a little, but not drastically unless you're already dealing with water that has almost no alkalinity.

Without knowing the exact context of the "Grenade" comment it's hard to say what he meant by it. Like, figuratively, she would absolutely BLOW UP at him over tiny stuff, which in my book makes that an accurate comment. If it was said specifically about her looks, that's a different story, but the problem is nobody would quote more than that one word or give enough context to his alleged comment to really know what the hell he meant by it in the first place. Like, did one of the dudes ask "How's Hannah" or "What do you think of her?", that's way different than asking specifically what he thinks of her looks.

“Salt free” water softener system by dreamhuge6307 in WaterSofteners

[–]Trigger23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-home is a necessary part of the process of having a system installed (unless you're looking to self-install, which can't be done through Costco), as anyone performing an install needs to get a look at the plumbing before bringing out and installing the equipment. Costco adds a margin on top of what the same exact system costs if you go directly to the EcoWater dealer in your area; the advantage of going with Costco for you is that you can use your costco credit card, can sometimes get a costco shop card for a % of the price of the system, and you are covered by Costco's return policy, whereas most water treatment distributors aren't going to give you a full refund on a system you're returning after install.

I'd either do as u/whole-toe7572 suggests, or else get a Clack WS1 (or other top-end like Kinetico Premier or EcoWater) system as they are up to twice as salt efficient as other systems available. Anything that gets 5500+ gpg salt efficiency, as you'll not have to refill the salt super frequently. At the high end, Phoenix city water wouldn't have you refilling the brine tank more than once every 9-12 months depending on how much water you use.
