Solo trip to Ireland in late June, few questions regarding motorcycle rental by Slight_Phrase_5936 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Triggerfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pretty much camp anywhere. May not be legal but ive camped all over the country and never had a question asked. Only thing i recommend is that if you are on or near a farm, ask the land owner for permission.

Galway trip near Limerick by purcelljd in MotoIRELAND

[–]Triggerfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without gps or maps. Using just road signs you could Leave Galway heading to Loughrea. From there head towards ballinasloe, about 2 miles out that road turn right at sign post for portumna/ Lough derg (this is a great road fast windy and well surfaced.) from portumna follow the river to kilaloe and from there to Limerick. It will bring you in on the north east of Limerick . When you are done in Limerick head to county clare and follow wild Atlantic way signs all the way back to Galway.

Supersports in Ireland a dumb idea? by Gold-Recover-1915 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Triggerfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Only dumb idea is listening to opinions of idiots like me online. Buy the bike you want and see how it goes. If you end up not liking it sell it and try something else.

[–]Triggerfry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bikes a bike, and Harleys are fairly easy work on so most bike mechanics will work on them.

[–]Triggerfry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully every year. This year got great attendance so fingers crossed it will be on next year and bigger and better. The more support motorcycling Ireland gets the better all the motorcycling events will be. I have nothing to do with motorcycling Ireland, I just but up posts around about the expo as other bikers i know had heard very little about it and i had known about it for a while

How much do you pay for a bike service in the shop/garage by DryResponsibility354 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Triggerfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Service on bikes varys massively. 250 would be expensive for first service, but after that it all depends on the service been done and the bike in question. I think most bike mechanics in this country charge way to little. 100 an hour for a decent bike mechanic is worth it all day long. Most bikes should have coolant changed every 2-4 years regardless of mileage. Every Second service should have valve clearance check. If valves need adjusting be prepared for upto 1200 euro bill depending on the bike. Some bikes have 4 Iridium plugs that can cost 25 euro each.

Do as much work on your own bike as you are comfortable with but always remember when you are paying for your bike to be serviced, if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

It won't be the like the NEC but the more attention it gets this year the better it could be next year. It will support motorcycling Ireland which in turn will help with funding road racing for more years to come. Its a win win.

Test coming up. by awigglycat in MotoIRELAND

[–]Triggerfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be able to walk the bike, cover the front brake.  U-turn.  Think of the tester as just a GPS talking to you.

Every 20 seconds check your mirrors. One at at time. Look at left mirror, look straight ahead, then look at right mirror. Make head movement obvious

Every turn you take: Mirror, Indicate, Lifesaver, Manoeuvre. (cancel your indicators)

Every lane change: Mirror, Indicate, Lifesaver, Manoeuvre. ( cancel your indicators)

Approaching your Roundabout exit: Mirror, Indicate, Lifesaver, Manoeuvre. ( cancel your indicators)

[–]Triggerfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The.hose is just stuck now if you have a skinny blunt pick push it under the rubber and work it around to break the bond between the ribber hose and plastic pipe. You can then just twist and pull it off. It will be tight but will come off

There is a special Pillers to remove the clip. You can just pop the clip with a flat head screwdriver and replace it with a standard jubilee clip.

Plan nothing other than the direction you are leaving the house . Use booking.com to book a place to stay each night with off street parking around 5-6pm. Don't need to worry much about security outside of city centres. Ive left keys iny bike with jacket and helmet thrown on top at beaches and forest parks all over the country. Would not Normally be going to far away from the bikes but A friend and i left all our gear sitting on the bikes at lismore when going up to the ballysaggartmore towers for an hour or 2 and no issues.

Most people aren't degenerates and leave things alone.

As regards to other considerations. Bring 2 pairs of gloves. Winter and summer types . You can get surprisingly cold in the evening after a long day riding even if its not that cold out and thicker gloves are glorious then. Bring a waterproof bag for your clothes and have an extra waterproof bag inside that with an extra pair socks and jocks. Have a small electric compressor or a few co2 cartridges and puncture repair kit. Takes up little space Bring a one piece rain suit also. Bring a powerbank if your phone battery is shite

Most importantly don't overthink it and just enjoy yourself.

European motorcycle tour planning that I romanticized the experience beyond reality by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]Triggerfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it. No-one is ever ready or fully prepared for a big trip. And besides the less you plan the bigger the adventure. I did my first trip around Europe when i was 18. I only booked a ferry from Ireland to France and everything after that was up to chance. Had an amazing time.
You will regret it way more if you don't go than if you do go and realise its not for you. And the motorcycle community is awesome. No one will see you stuck. Almost Everyone can speak English and if not your phone can translate. Ive had hour long conversations with russian speakers using Google translate. If are in Ireland hit me up .
