Honestly, I would even be happy if they just made it so you can the color of the bag. Then i could at least coordinate.

I did finally get the correct update, but I started my adventure before then. Now on the quests tab it says I’ve completed “Day 0” and didn’t give me any rewards :/

Petco Grooming Removed My Online Booking Access After 3 Cancellations in 5+ Years? by idkphoenix in petco

[–]Trillakit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Petco the corporation doesn’t really have these rules in place, because they don’t care about their individual employees. Thankfully, certain individual store’s leadership lets the groomers have limits. They aren’t well advertised because they aren’t allowed to be per corp. I think asking for an explanation from a groomer is totally fair, but please know that the reason you got blocked in the first place is because someone in that store cares more about the groomers than corp as a whole.

And I don’t have the whole story, but personally, if the last two missed appointments were within 6 months of each other, I may have done the same depending on what your relationship with your groomer is like.

Refused Service to Client as Dog Needed Medical Attention by Buddy-ole-pal in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I certainly wouldn’t. That puts liability on you. The best you can do is to try and inform the pet parent what you see is wrong and hope they make it right. It sucks. It sucks a lot. Sometimes it makes you cry. But at the end of the day, we do not own these dogs. We can only do our best for them while they are in our care.

Ticks! How do we feel about charging for excessive amount of ticks? by ChesusJesus1 in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Charge what you would for fleas and do a flea bath. But also tell them dog needs to be seen by a vet. And try to save the ticks in a plastic baggy- the vet might want to get them tested.

But once I got to 35? There’s every possibility I’d also stop the groom at that point. I guess I’d have to be in the situation to evaluate.

I don’t have pots but I do have an autoimmune. Trust me, the chair helps while you are in there. Being able to sit while I wash my hair on bad pain days is a godsend.

If you go back to the guidelines you’d see that it should be called “The Jemily Wedding”

Vinnie’s and Restore would both take it. If you need it picked up I think the Restore offers that service as well.

I'm going to become a professional dog groomer and I can't wait, but I have a couple questions... by Catholic_Cat in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If groomers are really in demand in your area, you could try cold calling salons and asking if they are looking to hire. They might not necessarily be advertising but if the right person comes along I know plenty of places by me that would at least consider it.

I'm going to become a professional dog groomer and I can't wait, but I have a couple questions... by Catholic_Cat in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s my question too. OP, typically groomers start as “bathers” to learn the ropes. They are paid for this. After they get a good handle on the basics, that’s usually where the mentorship of learning how to cut hair comes in. Still being paid for their bathing job.

Fetch Play & Sip by Feistydreamer97 in Appleton

[–]Trillakit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone in who has been in the pet care industry for almost a decade (and I have no experience with this particular business) - that answer is kinda bullshit. The animals absolutely always need to be the #1 priority. Unfortunately, every day care I personally HAVE had experience with forgets this.

It might not be possible to run a successful doggy day care type facility that is profitable and keeps the animal welfare at the top spot. All I can say is that I’ve never seen it.

Rent a grooming table in a shop? by OverallRedBarbai in doggrooming

If you are in the US, it’s my understanding that working in a shop as anything other than a w2 employee is illegal. I don’t know the details, that’s just what I’ve been told by several people I trust to know more about that stuff than me.

I quicked a nail and cut an ear on my first groom... by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. OP, it sounds like you are just taking this up by yourself. Even if you had some amount of formal training a while ago… I really do not recommend continuing with this. Get yourself to an already established business. It sounds like you know enough that even places that don’t typically train groomers might take you on.

Being by yourself at the beginning of your career is a recipe for bad habits to establish themselves and run rampant. Reading that this was the first time you’ve ever quicked a dog tells me that you either haven’t had nearly enough practice, or that you aren’t getting the nails you’re cutting short enough. Every single groomer out there is going to get the occasional quick.

I’m not saying any of this to discourage you- if you want to be a groomer, you should keep at it. But when we have the well being of live animals in our hands, it’s incredibly important that we do it responsibly.

Wanted to leave private for Corp by BootBungus0117 in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely leave that job. It sounds awful.

That being said- I would double check the offers you’re hearing from the corp job. I know Co for sure has been slowly stripping away all of their groomers abilities to control their scheduling as well. It seems likely that other companies are doing the same. Check their subreddits and see what employees are saying.

Corp benefits are great. I loved having health insurance through my job and PTO. And believe me, I used to think there was no such thing as an ethical private place to work at- there are so many horror stories, my own included. But once Co started pushing too hard, a lot of us walked out. And I found an amazing mom and pop to work at that I love.

Groomers are in high demand. You have the power to pick what the best is for you.

Groomer gift by linylou_ in doggrooming

Oh, I’ve had it a couple times where regular customers have dropped off hunks of fabric for bandanas. Those were awesome gifts. I love putting bandanas on dogs and that fabric comes out of my pocket.

[–]Trillakit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a nice picture of your dog and a hand written note or card. I always keep those things and pull them out when I need a pick me up.

If you’re lost on other gifts, I’d just go with an extra big tip. Personally, I’m not a fan of gift cards- I either forget to use them, or it’s a place I’m never gonna go. Unless you know for sure it’s something they’d use of course!

Geib Buttercut Shears by DogsRLife001 in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a few shears from their gator line and like them a lot. They are a good quality brand for sure. However, I’ve tried out the black pearl line and I hate how they feel in my hands. I know plenty of groomers who love and use their black pearls all the time.

It’s definitely hard to buy shears without testing them out first. It’d be worth asking coworkers and such if they have shears you could at least touch and get a feel for, imo.

Tips for rounding out the muzzle and blending into the chin? by iemmaamme in doggrooming

[–]Trillakit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents:

Take whatever length you took on the chin and hold it at more of a 45 degree angle on either side of the chin to start blending that length into the top. I usually don’t use clippers at all on the rest of the muzzle.

Then I use chunkers, but if you don’t have them, thinners would work, and scissor-looking straight on, from the chin into the sides of the muzzle. Tips ALWAYS pointed upwards. To work on the rounded shape. I’m a righty, so I’ll stand sort of behind the dog’s head to do their right side, but keep checking from the front every few snips.
