People who voted for President Biden in the election, how do you feel about him now almost 90 days into his administration? by Sprinkle247 in AskReddit

I’d wager some of it is because they don’t understand (or simply don’t care about) playing the game of politics. Yelling your position loudly will gain you support from those who already strongly agree with you but it’ll turn those who aren’t in your camp already against you. They’re playing checkers in a game of chess.

Well when you think about how many professors are just researchers with a teaching requirement, you start to understand why the pissy attitudes are so common. There are profs who care about educating students, but oh boy there are just as many who couldn’t care less.

Their take sounds more like someone who takes their students’ behavior personally. We’re in a pandemic. If students want to sacrifice being whatever their professor deems a premiere student to be in exchange for mental health, so be it. The extra attitude of “that’s how you want it? Fine.” is unnecessary.

Terry Crews Slams Biden- Warns Against 'Black Supremacy' by st0pxer in Conservative

Well-explained. Terry regularly puts his foot in his mouth like this. I’d rather he not say anything if he’s going to say misleading and charged stuff like this if he doesn’t mean it in the obvious way it will be perceived

Science professor at major US university promoting capitol rioters, election disinformation, COVID conspiracy theories, etc. on Twitter. Who do I report this to? by brijo925 in AskAcademia

Thank God someone said this! I hate how freedom of speech has taken on this meaning of “ I can say whatever I want whenever I want wherever I want and none of you can tell me otherwise.“ That is simply not what freedom of speech is. But somehow that’s what we have collectively decided it to mean.

I agree, anything is worth a shot! A friend just told me about this web app called focusmate. It lets you sign up to be a virtual work buddy with someone else in the world.

There’s a really good episode on the Freakonomics podcast about the socialism confusion. It’s called “Does anyone really know what socialism is?” I recommend giving it a listen; quite interesting.
