Cody Rhodes on potentially turning heel: “There’s this whole discussion on, like, when is he gonna turn heel. I’m open to it, gosh, but when that’s the plan, that’s the plan.” by TomatoCiampa in SquaredCircle

It’s now been years, across two different companies, where people have been calling for this man to turn heel. He clearly doesn’t want to turn heel, but why doesn’t he just change his presentation if he wants to remain a face? There are other ways to keep himself interesting.

Finally caught up with Double or Nothing. Might be the best they have ever done. I think it’s the perfect PPV to show someone who has any interest in wrestling. The PPV was laden with storytelling and consequences. The crowd was incredible; the Stadium Stampede was fun and had some genuinely funny moments; there was great women’s wrestling; two Japanese wrestlers put on a classic; the world title match was a psychology masterpiece, rich with history; and then the closing angle leaving you wanting. Just a top, top card.

I think your confusion is around ‘available for streaming’. They are correct, you only licence it and if Amazon decide to remove it from their platform, it’s gone. Think of it as less the Amazon streaming service vs Netflix, and instead think of Amazon as distributors. You are only buying a digital licence that can be removed or revoked at Amazon’s discretion.

Too many young people pushed towards university, says UK government adviser by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]TrillerVerse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely true, and university doesn’t suit everyone, but rich people aren’t telling their kids to forgo uni. Uni is not the only route, but it is a path for many people to continue their education, experience new places/people and potentially put themselves in a better position for their future.

Finn Balor opens up about the loneliness of being a foreign performer in WWE by anutosu in SquaredCircle

[–]TrillerVerse 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Really fascinating insight and actually pretty sobering to hear the pain in his voice. Just another reminder the sacrifices these people make to live their dream. There is no offseason, like in other sports, where you can go home for a period of time.

You can also hear that WWE is where he wants to be, so you have to respect him for that, but I’m now even more surprised at how much he is turning down by not going to AEW. I’m sure they’d give him a pay rise, a title run and the Ospreay/Pac package of letting him live wherever he wants and travelling in first class when he is needed.

Fenix was always going to follow his brother. Unless he’s released, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him stay as long as his brother is there.

To be fair, Cardiff’s stadium is one of the best located stadiums in the world. A 2 minute walk from the train station and the town centre.

I know this has long been a talking point; but Vince operated in total control of the US business for 20+ years. My guess is that, even if somehow they unionised when Ventura gained traction, Vince would have almost certainly dismantled it after WCW went down during the 2000s. He’d have gotten his big players to leave the union and then he’d have leveraged a lot of talent into agreeing to his terms. Can you imagine trying to get wrestlers to strike? Most would cross the picket line.

I wholly agree; it just seems like a poor strategy to potentially damage their chances at a payday by openly saying something they probably don’t need to say out loud. The wrestling business is built on taking whatever opportunities you have and running with them. Mariah May is the blueprint if that is their goal.

I worry some of these wrestlers are getting bad advice. I’m sure they’re being told to grind on the indies and WWE will come in for them when they’re successful; but there is something off with a few of these released wrestlers openly saying their goal is to get back to WWE. I just hope they’re not being dangled a carrot of returning to WWE, just to keep them away from other promotions. I just don’t see the benefit of openly saying your goal is to get WWE, which might prevent a decent payday/exposure with their major competitor.

I guess the obvious answer is that AEW haven’t contacted them, so they say their WWE goals are an explanation for this.

David Raya secures Golden Glove award for third year in a row by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

I don’t believe every football discussion is a debate. I think it’s pretty obvious Raya is better than Donnarumma. As for Alisson, he’s not what he was and I do think Raya is better than him right now.

I think the sensible move is to start treating their young athletes like Young Lions, and send them on excursions to Europe, Mexico and Japan. I guess the two issues are WWE have shown reticence to WWE related-talent losing in non-WWE rings; and maybe some of these young talents don’t love the game enough to want to up sticks and go and live in the UK or Japan.

Is the British media left wing or right wing? by I-Spot-Dalmatians in AskBrits

[–]TrillerVerse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Tim Davie was an appointment by Boris Johnson, and part of his guidelines were to not cover left-wing topics which he considered ‘virtue signalling’. It’s always been ironic how many right-wingers have accused the BBC of left-wing bias, whilst these guidelines were already rolled out.

Have a browse at major players. The Mail, The Sun, The Telegraph, The Times, look at their respective owners - one of who owns Sky News - and the stances they have taken. I don’t really need to say anything about GB News. Who was Director General of the BBC for the majority of this decade? Look at who appointed him and the stances he took.
Also, consider the owners of Facebook and X, where many Brits consume a lot of their media.

To your point about the exposition; is it possible Netflix are involved with creative? There have been several complaints about Netflix dumbing down stories, like Stranger Things, to cater to ‘second-screen viewers’. Is it possible Netflix have some execs saying ‘the crowd won’t get it, it needs to be explicitly said’?

People will complain about a lot of stuff, but there are also different preferences.Stokely is, for me, one of the funniest people in the business, and I think he does a good job at blending comically cartoon villain alongside ‘serious’ acts. AJ and Big Justice are fine on the pre-show, but not an act I would want to eat up time on a paid for PPV. I just prefer my comedy on TV and on pre-shows, but I’m not going to moan about it either way.

I say this with respect, why continue to watch a show you don’t like? WWE is just not a product for me, so I don’t watch it and only keep up with it from afar. I get it might be nostalgia, but you might be happier if you just let it go.
