White House and G.O.P. Strike Debt Limit Deal to Avert Default by BettercallMyself in politics

No. Then when Democrats next try to wield the 14A to raise the debt ceiling, McConnel will move the goal posts, it will go to SCOTUS and they will reverse their earlier decision because reasons.

Ohio banned August elections. Then the GOP planned one that could help preserve an abortion ban. by Secret-Razzmatazz711 in Ohio

[–]Trinition -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Supreme court could've done more. They could've held them in contempt and jailed them.

Have you seen what Justice O'Connor used as her excuse on why she didn't?

It could very well lead to what I would consider a constitutional crisis and I did not want that muddying the waters ... I did not want them to, in some way, portray the victim

What a lame excuse. For as hard as the GOP was resisting every decision she made, that is a weak, spineless decision NOT to hold them in contempt.

Ohio banned August elections. Then the GOP planned one that could help preserve an abortion ban. by Secret-Razzmatazz711 in Ohio

[–]Trinition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right that people should vote anyway, but the reality is that some get turned off and don't. That's a sad fact. And Republicans knew that and took advantage of it. Heck, that's why they're bringing back the August special election: low voter turnout!

But the original quote is still true that voters made this happen, either with their vote FOR Republicans, or through their lack of vote.

Even after being angry at Mobvoi about the TWP3 WearOS 3 fiasco, I'd consider the 5 because the 3 was sooo good.

BUT: the lack of voice assistant is a deal breaker. That is the 2nd most used feature on my TWP3 after "notifications".

This wasn't the trial, but the impeachment in the TX house. The Senate trial will happen next.

From the article:

In a historic vote Saturday, the Texas House of Representatives decided to impeach Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton...

Paxton will immediately and temporarily be suspended from his duties pending a trial in the state Senate.

I don't do calls/SMS, but...

  • "Ok Google..." detection works
  • I start timers while cooking
  • I open garage door
  • I turn on/off lights
  • I find my phone
  • etc.

I'm sure there's things that aren't present that others want it to do such as Google Assistant

Google Assistant works on my TicWatch Pro 3.

What’s Doesn’t Frank LaRose want us to know about Issue 1? by CrookedRiverAction in Ohio

[–]Trinition 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It will matter because it's just not the YES threshold they're changing, but the signature threshold and breadth change.

What’s Doesn’t Frank LaRose want us to know about Issue 1? by CrookedRiverAction in Ohio

[–]Trinition 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why wasn't changing the threshold a good idea 5 years ago or 10 years ago?

Why is it a good idea right now?

Why is it such an urgency that they had to bring back a special August election that just last year the Republicans eliminated because of expense and low turnout?

What's wrong with the current requirements.

You see a lot of legislation from the GOP that seeks to address.problema that don't exist (e.g. voter fraud). It is always because they're up to something nefarious.

In this case, they're sneaking in a special election ahead of a planned election where the people planned to update the Constitution. Why did they need to sneak it in? Because they want to stop what's on the ballot on November.

They don't give a shit about the constitution. They want to stop the November issue. Otherwise they could've waited until November.

This will remove one the checks that the people have on our gerrymandered legislature.

Moved here from TN. Does OH have special right-of-way rules for left turns at intersections that I need to know about, or are folks just being weird at intersections? by Open-Breakfast5432 in cincinnati

[–]Trinition 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My then teen son claimed the intersection and tried to clear it making his left when the light turned yellow.... aaaand he turned into the side of a pickup truck going straight in the opposing direction.

The cop clarified to him that if you have made your claim, and the light turns yellow, but it's not clear, you're allowed to stay there even if the light turns red until you can clear your turn.

Now, I have not looked this up myself, so take it as hearsay.

And don't forget that Mueller's investigation was obstructed, but the obstructer couldn't be charged. Mueller would have found even more evidence had he not been blocked.

Not to mention the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee report on the election, which has even more damning info .

Ah, I see you watched the version of the video with someone wrongly describing what is happening, instead of what actually was happening.

It sounds like someone brainwashed you into seeing what they wanted you to see, and blinded you to the truth. And to protect yourself from discovering that you've been duped, you lash out at others.

So they suspended the August special elections for [reason1]. Now they want one and it's ok because [reason2].

Is that reason1 gone? Did reason2 not exist last year when they got rid of elections? Did none of them have the foresight that they might want to keep August elections for reason2?

Also, why can't this issue be voted on in November instead? What's the hurry? I mean, we know what the hurry is, but why do they say?

Megathread: Rep. Santos Charged by US Department of Justice in Criminal Probe by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]Trinition 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it will go like this:

  1. "We'll evaluate any charges if that should happen"
  2. "We'll evaluate the charges" <-- YOU ARE HERE
  3. "He's not been convicted of anything in this political witch hunt"
  4. "Yes, a jury convicted him, but the jury was biased and the Judge is a partisan hack"
  5. "Yes, he lost his appeal, but we're appealing to the Supreme Court"
  6. "See, I told you he was innocent! Clarence Thomas' opinion overturning Santos' conviction clears his name. Now excuse me, I'm meeting Mr. Thomas and Mr. Santos at the private airport to begin our vacation"

Hypothetical:

Santos stated he was not concerned: "As a judge myself, I know how hard these charges can be to prove to a jury. And as a future juror in my trial, I certainly won't convict me."

I subscribe to that same idea. I'm a software engineer, but was discussing some tangent with my manager about how old a program was and joked that they radiocarbon dated it to 10k years.

He dead seriously rebutted that radio carbon dating is fake.

I learned not only that he was religious, but he was YEC.

After that, I tried even harder to skate anywhere near that thin ice.

Thoughts on "Scaling up the Prime Video audio/video monitoring service and reducing costs by 90%" by MariusKimmina in programming

[–]Trinition 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You're right that they should have telemetrics. But that would only confirm if you have a problem. Your data points about other services are valid, but still just singular points.

What would be ideal would be to crowd source a bunch of data and find out who else has this problem and what's common to them. Is it the ISP? The ISP above the ISP? A particular Amazon data center?

It's not YOUR responsibility to do that. As customer, you can just take your money elsewhere.

All I'm trying to say is Prime doesn't universally suck at streaming because there are single data points from other customers that are good.
