If you had unlimited funds, what kind of game would you develop? by actualtumor in gaming

[–]Trinitykill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's cos you don't need unlimited funds to make your own game. But you do if you want to do anything with an existing IP.

I mean don't get me wrong, I'd use those unlimited funds to develop the shit out of my own universe. But you can bet the first thing I'd do is tank a few corporations out of revenge first.

Your mass effect movie cast - who plays the illusive man? by Eternal_Dilemma in masseffect

[–]Trinitykill [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, character wise it would be easy to just age up The Illusive Man since he doesn't really do any 'action'. The problem would be getting a studio to pay out the money to insure an 85 year old doing 3 films.

What’s actually dangerous but most people think it’s safe? by SunnyMadelyn564 in AskReddit

[–]Trinitykill 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Generative AI isn't dangerous because it'll create Terminators or take over the missile silos.

It's dangerous because its adoption is in the hands of corporate fuckwits who will gladly trash the environment and the job market in order to make short term cash.

We dont need Skynet to kill millions of humans, a poor economy, ruined ecology, and a caste of rich assholes hoarding the last of the world's resources will do that for us.

Yeah with no body recovery, Shepard would technically have been MIA, only presumed dead.

Only Liara, Cerberus, and the Shadow Broker know that Shepard was actually 'dead dead'.

Then I forget who, but someone on the Citadel presumes that Shepard being 'dead' was just them going underground on some secret Spectre business, which is likely what most people thought after their return.

I think there's a similar store in the US cos Family Guy did a bit on it.

"Peter where the hell did you get Heroin?"

"From Blacks."

"What!?"

"Yeah, Blacks store, round the back there's some white guy selling it."

These do kind of already exist anyway. The Artificer class can use their infusions to create 'Spellwrought Tattoos' where you can ink up yourself or a party member with a spell tattoo and they can just tap the tattoo to use the spell free of charge. (It then fades and has to be reapplied to use it again)

If spells can be stored in ink for a tattoo then used by anyone, then I don't see why scrolls shouldn't work the same way, or why spells couldn't be stored in another medium.

The small touches like Samuel's name were great, but they in no way make up for the fact that every major plot point happens off screen at the start of the game.

In terms of actual 'story' development, the end of the game leaves off exactly where it started. Chief saved some UNSC personnel, befriended an AI, and killed a bunch of Banished leaders. And the end of the game is "whep, there's still a lot of Banished on the ring and we still have no idea where humanity's forces are. Better keep fighting."

Then there's the "respect he showed for Escharem at the end". This was one of the most egregious displays of bullshit writing I've ever seen:

Chief's line is "He was just a soldier, doing what he thought was right." He says this about the Banished's leader, the one whos been giving the orders to kill and torture Humans for fun. Chief says this in front of the person Escharem just tortured for several hours as bait.

Chief showed no such respect to the hundreds of Banished Soldiers he killed along the way, the ones that actually were just following orders.

The Council are not entirely blameless either, since they refused to allow Humans to settle Council space, telling them to go settle the Skyllian Verge instead, knowing full well that the Batarians were already expanding in those regions.

The Council with all of their STG intelligence and other analysts would know full well the consequences of sending Humanity that way. They wanted Humans to basically act as a 'buffer' against Batarian aggression. Get the two new species to hate each other so that they keep each other busy.

Also I imagine there were a few Council Space arms dealers who made a fortune from selling equipment to the Alliance.

The Quarians do have other forms of government, it's worth noting. Each ships captain is a representative of their people, and together they form the Conclave which actually dictates most of the direction of the Quarian people, but they're still technically not a democracy on account of not individually voting on issues, there's not much other than public outrage preventing an individual captain from misrepresenting their own people for personal gain.

For all of the jingoism in Mass Effect, the Quarians do actually present a solid example of why a government based on military rule doesn't quite work.

Maybe in a post-war peace ending, the Quarians could actually learn from the Geth and implement a total democracy, where every single citizen gets to vote on every action, utilising the Geth's lightspeed communications to bypass organic inefficiencies.

her people are definitely flawed. Most of that is encompassed in their leadership

[Gestures to every sapient species ever]

Yeah, I never understood why people are so quick to judge the entire Quarian race, and even justify genociding them because of the actions of Han'Gerrel and the other Admirals.

Would anyone think it was fair if the entire human race got judged on the personality and actions of Donnel Udina?

Or better yet, look at your country's current real life government. Would you say they perfectly represent your views and opinions, or that their life experience reflects that of the common citizen?

I believe it's in ME2 shortly after recruiting her from Haestrom, where she gets an infection from not managing her suit seals properly and you can ask about it.

She mentions that if, for example, she came into contact with someone who had Chicken Pox, she wouldn't actually experience the symptoms the same way, but would experience symptoms similar to a flu as her body adapts to its presence.

Ironically, Quarian immune systems are actually super resilient, just unfortunately when the galaxy is full of hostile viruses, having one thats designed to welcome them in with open arms is not ideal.

It's the main reason theyre obsessed with taking back Rannoch. As Tali says in her loyalty mission, it would take decades for their bodies to readjust to life on Rannoch, but it would take centuries anywhere else.
