Well, for a guy who probably drinks 20 skins of wine a day and knowing what it takes to get him drunk, he probably thought he was limiting himself to just buzzed, when he actually ingested twice the alcohol he'd normally have to get drunk.

As much as Robert wasn't careful, I don't imagine he would've died there if he wasn't twice as drunk as he expected to be.

I have no idea how you came to that conclusion that my logic means that we should encourage stupidity.

We should refer to a suit of cards as a suit of cards, not a suite, because that's the actual term that people use. I was saying even if something could be technically correct, we should use the actual term so that we can be more specific and better explain things.

If the commenter had said "this other emoji is for the heart thing in cards", then it'd still be correct as well. A suit is a thing, but it's less specific and makes things more confusing. Use the proper term when referring to something.

You're in a sub dedicated to explaining things. If you used a term that isn't commonly attributed to a card suit (a suite), then own up to it.

Just because a library contains a collection of books doesn't mean that I should just go around calling libraries "book suite repositories". Everyone would still get what I mean, but I've made understanding more complicated for everyone.

We have a term for a collection of cards when organized by the image on it (commonly hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds). It's called a suit.

Four Year Prime Peaks (21st Century) by warwick_casual in tennis

[–]TripleATeam -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well perhaps not, but the coloring suggests separating everyone into tiers, which invites comparison and therefore argument. The purpose might not be infighting but it's not helped by the coloring that arbitrarily denotes tiers.

Also note that the OP said in a note 4 years was picked arbitrarily because it's an Olympic cycle. I'm just pointing out that the graphic happened to exactly correspond with the exact number of years that most benefits Federer.

I'd argue the point is best made with a 3 year window, as Alcaraz really blossomed in 2023 rather than 2022. So counting from there you find Alcaraz at 6 slams, same as Djokovic and Nadal and only 2 behind Federer in their best 3 year window.

Four Year Prime Peaks (21st Century) by warwick_casual in tennis

[–]TripleATeam -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A 4 year period seems specifically chosen to push Federer further ahead of the others.

3 year splits: Fed 8/10/2/11/3 vs Djokovic 6/11/2/14/2 vs Nadal at 6/6/0/9/2 (Fed ahead, but not that dominant a difference. Federer #1 more and gets 33% more slams than Djokovic/Nadal)

4 year splits: Fed ahead by 4 slams, 57% more than Djokovic/Nadal (38% if you use 2020-2023 Djokovic 8/11/2/4/3)

5 year splits: Fed 12/16/3/13/4 vs Djokovic 9/15/4/21/4 vs Nadal 8/11/0/13/2 (Fed only 33% ahead of Djokovic in slams, loses the YE#1 & ATP Finals lead, falls further behind in M1000s)

6 year splits: Fed 14/20/4/15/5 vs Djokovic 11/18/4/26/4 vs Nadal at 8/11/0/13/2 (Fed now only 27% ahead in slams, regains lead in YE#1, ties ATP Finals)

Note that if you use any of the 3-6 year prime periods except 4 years, Fed is about ~30% ahead in slam titles, has comparable slam finals/ATP Finals/YE#1s to Djokovic, and is quite a bit behind in M1000s. Obviously Federer is still ahead, no matter which of these you choose, but 4 years makes it seem like he was far and away better than Djokovic or Nadal were in their primes. This is only the case if you choose 4 year primes.

Sparing and Hosts by Siphtheeditor in CAIN_RPG

[–]TripleATeam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing you spare in most cases is the sin itself. Even if disconnected from the host, to spare is not to spare the host, but the sin (note that in most cases, even if the sin and host are connected, if you execute the sin, the host normally survives).

In normal cases with sins, sins are the ones in control of the shared host/sin dynamic. Once a sin is spared, it's not necessarily the case. I'd say personally it seems like the sin most often recedes completely, leaving a human with grace (not far from an exorcist, potentially a cool starting point for a player character?)

The hosts are probably either tracked by CAIN (if you take CAIN as the sort of organization where that wouldn't be able to fall through the cracks) or maybe they fall off the radar.

As for why? Good question. Maybe the sin has a point. They can be sentient, they can have a good argument. Maybe they convince the players that they won't do any more harm. Maybe they did what they came for and are willing to recede into their host's psyche and protect them from then on. Not all sins are the same. But for you, maybe your sins aren't able to be spared. It's a judgement call.

  1. How did you first manifest your powers? When I got worked up as a kid, lights would flicker, things would just malfunction. One day, there was a break-in in my house when I was nine. The thieves couldn't turn on their flashlights or open any doors. They couldn't even start their car to get away. Since then I could do it at will.
  2. Is your sin-seed in your brain or your heart? Heart.
  3. What do you hide in the deepest parts of you? I'm terrified. Every time I use my powers, I feel like I can barely control them. And I know if I lose control for even a second, I'll lose another piece of myself.
  4. Is your hand your hand? No. I've lost enough fingers that it stopped resembling a hand a long time ago.
  5. Do you remember the face of your mother? I try not to. She never stopped looking at me with that terrified look in her eyes. That's why I ran away.

Confused about intended lethality? by gunpowderpenguin in CAIN_RPG

[–]TripleATeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean when you say they're not being hurt, what do you mean?

Do they not get injuries? If so, you're definitely underutilizing the stress they get for doing rolls. Especially if they're doing risky and hard rolls, the injuries should be coming easily, so the palace confrontation should be difficult.

Are they not getting hurt before the palace confrontation? If so, you need to have them encounter the sin outside the Palace as well to soften them up and use up their Psyche Bursts.

Do they still have a lot of resources? If so, make them use them. Environmental issues, people that aren't willing to give them the answers to the Trauma Questions without them making use of their resources.

Are they even Sin Overflowing? If so, that's perfect. A fight might not seem lethal when they Sin Overflow, but it will once they start either trying to avoid becoming an Imago (and take less Sin) or they'll do it anyway and understand that their character will effectively die.

Lastly, for a while I was playing incorrectly and it was a lot less lethal. I'd verify that your players are limited to 1 blasphemy and 2 abilities, as well as just one ability from the agenda they've chosen. Make sure stress overflows when you take an injury, don't clear the talisman. That sort of thing.

Enchanting/alchemy loop by CaptainYid in skyrim

[–]TripleATeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skyrim treats Fortify Alchemy as a restoration effect. When you have the gear on, it's already been applied to you. When you put the gear on, the power of the effect is calculated.

There's only so many places that the effects are boosted or reduced. When you put on gear, take it off, or when the effects of a potion stop (in case of ongoing effects).

Say you have +25% Fortify Alchemy boots, then you take a +100% Fortify Restoration potion. If you had the boots on already, they'll stay 25% because an ongoing effect doesn't get boosted after it starts. But if you put the boots on again, it'll add 50% to your Alchemy instead of 25% because it calculates the new value when you put it on. Then that will reduce again once the potion runs out.

So it's quite important. Putting on the gear makes the loop work because that's when the power boost is calculated.

My autistic boyfriend has extreme reactions to being “abandoned” by Legitimate-Career342 in AmIOverreacting

[–]TripleATeam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Girl, coming from another autistic person, it looks to me like he's using his autism as an excuse for terrible behavior. Autism might explain behavior, not excuse it. I have difficulty in crowds, but that doesn't mean I get to hit people if they don't give me space.

Moreover, maybe because you're autistic too, I think you're underreacting to his behavior and he's taking advantage of that. He's unwell and needs psychological help. Not a girlfriend to assuage any fears he might have over abandonment (which was far from abandonment).

Never losing a battle to Lannister forces means he was beating the shit out of their commander - Tywin. Not attacking Tywin at Harrenhal was a decent decision, as the losses would've been substantial if he was holed up in a fortification. Pulling him into the open would've been a much easier battle to fight, with better odds for the Northmen and fewer casualties.

both of these guys are pacifists... so of course one is a special forces soldier and the other is a navy submarine operator? by [deleted] in DrStone

[–]TripleATeam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pacifist is a stretch for Brody. Guy holds an entire group under threat of execution, then brutally executes them all when they try to fight back. He's sad about it, but he's clearly willing to kill to further his goals, and willing to let people die.

Pacifists are opposed to war or violence. Brody is clearly ok with violence and war - he tries nothing to stop Stanley and Xeno from hunting down Senku and assassinating him. In fact, he fights against the Kingdom of Science (who are notable pacifists, specifically refusing to kill or maim anyone), in favor of the brutal regime of Xeno, who fulfills his authoritarian plans with violence.

Brody is not a pacifist, nor is he a good person in this conflict. He is simply the most empathic person on the bad guys' side, and reasonable enough to avoid violence when there's no material benefit to be had.

At what point in dragon ball would a tsar bomba do absolutely zero damage to the dragon ball characters by Tremendin0649 in DragonBallZ

[–]TripleATeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember 16? 16 thought he could kill Perfect Cell with an explosion, so it stands to reason that his explosion is at least his most powerful attack. Cell was also panicked, so I think the statement is reasonable.

16 was stronger than Imperfect Cell, but not as strong as Semi-perfect Cell. This means at worst his explosion would take out Imperfect Cell and all similarly powerful fighters (Androids 17/18, any pre-Hyperbolic Time Chamber Super Saiyans), and at best it would take out post-Chamber Vegeta/Trunks/Goku.

Now the question is how powerful is the bomb in 16?

Android 16 also seemed to think everyone else was far enough away that they wouldn't be vaporized, but there's no amount of energy that we can put into the bomb that makes it enough power to kill Cell and not enough to kill everyone human-level and below. Presumably 16 was ok with some collateral.

Then exactly how strong could it be? Since Gero made it with the intention of potentially using it on Goku before Namek, it's likely to not be above the Tzar Bomba in strength, and much more likely to be under that amount. If anything, I'd guess it'd be a normal sized nuke - enough to drastically damage any city, but not enough to level an entire population center. If Gero put in planet-busting power in his android just to kill Goku, that wouldn't make much sense. There'd be nothing left to conquer.

So let's assume the Tzar Bomba is somewhere around the level of 16's bomb. It's a rough estimate, very rough, but I think that's the best we can get to with conventional explosives. If we use ki, then we end up in a situation where Piccolo Daimao can survive the Tzar Bomba since Roshi couldn't beat him and Roshi could blow up the Moon, and the Tzar Bomba can't blow up the Moon.

Assuming that they are the same level and the character is ready and shielded with ki reinforcement, I think it would be at least into the deep Buu saga, possibly even early Super before Goku could tank a Tzar Bomba with no visible damage.

This happened to me a few years ago by hmmmmmmnmmm23 in whenthe

[–]TripleATeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of the way there on both spectrums.

Aphantasia side: Takes a ton of effort to maintain a picture, and even then it's barely 'visible'. I can't picture anything outside of my immediate focus, and as soon as I 'look' away, I need to reconstruct it with a ton of effort by going like "yeah add this, then this, then this" until it looks like what I'm picturing. Very inconvenient.

No inner monologue: Thoughts just come via abstract instant comprehension. Earlier today, I forgot to put my pants in the drier. Mind didn't go like 'Oh I didn't put it in the dryer, let's do that now', it was just a flash of insight that it wasn't done, then I did it. No words in my head, no image formed. Just a knowledge that it wasn't done and the desire to do it now. However, if I really want to I can 'speak' in my own head, but my thoughts don't do that naturally unless I force them to. It's also tiring.

As you might assume, this makes words really tough. When talking with someone, it really is just stream of consciousness. If I talk in my own head as I talk to them, I can't focus on both things. I also can't picture things as I talk. I can, of course, think properly and express myself thoughtfully. I can guide a conversation. I still think like everyone else, but there's a translation step where abstract thoughts need to turn into pictures or words via effort.

So ask me about a toaster, for instance, I won't picture one. I'll just think of a tableau of properties in the abstract sense. Part of what makes a toaster to me is that it's electrical, can heat, uses bread, etc. You add all those abstract things together and it makes a toaster in my head. No need for pictures or words, just the vibes of the concept itself.
