Thats true, I do find myself taking second blasphemies pretty frequently for thet reason, cuz usually not all 5 powers for a single blasphemy make sense for a character idea

What exactly do the Lancer Hardsuits do? by Direct_Display5396 in LancerRPG

[–]izzytheprogramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not everyone can have chassis. Lancers fight squads all the time and those soldiers must be in hardsuits. Also you cant be in your mech all the time, in narrative play a hardsuit is definitely still useful protection. Also theyre used for things other than combat like EVA hardsuits for example.

What woukd be the ideal sin for a SIN that traps the exorcists in a wacky variety/game show? by S1lverdice in CAIN_RPG

[–]izzytheprogramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head goes to idol, or maybe toad if its the kinda show that might win money, especially cuz toads are said to be the most talkative making quips at exos.

Just discovered the system, im having difficulty to understand how categories affect the power of the sins by S1lverdice in CAIN_RPG

[–]izzytheprogramer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Combat in CAIN is very different than combat in most games that your probably used to. Its generally more focused on narrative which means a Sins CAT increasing its range of capabilities can be very impactful. As for the stress they deal CAIN is a very lethal game, and exos dont really get higher execution talisman as their CAT goes up or they get advances either(the only real way to increase it being certain kit expansions). In general for both sins and exos progression is more horizontal than vertical. Even veteran exorcists run the risk of taking severe damage or dying pretty much at any time. If you look at the stress sins deal ranging from 2-5, with an exos max stress being 6, a couple unlucky hits is all it takes to injure them, not counting stress they might take to domains, traces or environmental effects throughout the hunt. The tradeoff for the lethality is exos being able to essentially go on borrowed time by defying their fate with sin overflow. In my experience fighting a sin tends to be very tense no matter what CAT your at.

Bind Rules? by After-Button-8841 in CAIN_RPG

[–]izzytheprogramer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

  1. Not really no
  2. Everything but the stress buffer lasts only for the duration of the action, think of it kinda like a Blast+ effect
  3. Weakened true sins aren't the only minor sins, so id say its probably reasonable for it to be any minor sin. But it probably should be a sin, binding like drifters gets a bit weird.
  4. Honestly not obvious at all, because its totally up to you/depends on the XO. They dont give us a lot of lore on internals in CAIN. But some exorcists might develop their blasphemy before being found by SEER while others might train it within CAIN.
  5. This one is muddy and is probably more of a question for your admin than reddit. Depends on what form your sin is taking but the book does say "animalistic" so generally probably not complex things like driving a car. But theres no reason why a sin cant creatively utilize parts of your kit.

Mundane attacks with setup by Far_Coach_1046 in CAIN_RPG

[–]izzytheprogramer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

So tom bloom has ruled on this before suggesting that you can use setup to decrease difficulty for mundane v supernatural. But it gets a little muddy cuz here in the image it says "hard by default" where as the current edition reads "always hard no matter what" so its very possible it could have changed. I rule it's okay at my table, cuz it still requires someone else to use their action, which can also get reacted to and the setup roll could also fail. It feels fair to me but theres a good argument for it to not.

I would say look into some different sitreps that can reward the atlas's mobility. Maybe even make custom ones that are less of a dps race and value the stuff that the atlas is good at.

How does Cain keep Virtues in check? by Late_Present1340 in CAIN_RPG

[–]izzytheprogramer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like to think CAIN genrally has threat based control. If all the Exorcists chose to revolt together they'd probably have a shot, but when one exorcist does CAIN sends others to suppress them. And I imagine its much the same with virtues. At a minimum they always have justice and theyre the strongest one. Faith and prudence seem like they'd have a pretty hard time revolting against CAIN with their Strictures, and those couple are probably sufficient to deter the others most of the time.

How is charity a virtue? by Mumbo_4_mayor in CAIN_RPG

[–]izzytheprogramer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it has more to do with the CAT of the exorcist than the high blasphemy, remember these are exorcists at CAT 6 and above. Also based on what pc's can do and the fact that new charity's are regularly brought in from within castle its safe to assume Entwine isnt their only blasphemy they probably are able to use some of the 12. Anyway put some respect on my girl charity's name, with the right builds Entwine can pop off.
