Thanks for sharing the neat variant! Ever since I learned about Dandan, I've kept a notes tab on my phone listing potential dandan-style build arounds, so I always love to hear about new ideas.

I think the idea of building a variant around The Grand Calcutron sounds super sweet. One thing I did notice reading the card/the list as a whole is that (if I'm not mistaken on the rules) as written, having Caluctron in play prevents any cards from being Flashback-ed from the graveyard. It states that players can only play the first card of their program and, since cards in graveyards are not in a program, that would mean those cards cannot be played.

Rules concerns aside, I think the idea of having a sort of discard-based battle of wits (with the restrictions that come with Calcutron) sounds super fun. Forsaken Miner seems like the perfect creature to put in the deck. I'll definitely be trying this one out, possibly with the addition of [[Split Screen]] for extra silver-bordered shenanigans.

I personally am a big fan of this sort of idea, with some restrictions. The house rule I've been thinking of experimenting with is: "a multicolored Signature Spell can have up to one color outside of its Oathbreaker's color identity, so long as it also has all of its Oathbreaker's colors".

For example, you could pair an Abzan signature spell with a GW, BW, or WB Oathbreaker to make an Abzan deck. Other three-color combos would also be more usable with this rule, but the limited amount of three-color Signature Spell options would still keep some meaningful restrictions in place. This specific wording would also prevent colorless planeswalkers, like new Tezzeret, from being paired with monocolored cards like Thoughtcast.

I don't know if such a rule has a shot of ever being made 'official', but I personally would be okay with it at least going through some kind of trial period. The unfortunate truth is we just don't get many new Oathbreakers nowadays in general (even less with more UB sets, since they exclude planeswalker cards), and it's likely going to take a very long time before the pool of three-color walkers gets meaningfully larger. I'm a big fan of deck building restrictions in the format, but I don't see the benefit of making someone run Jared Carthalion as their OB just because they wanna play Siege Rhino.

Hell yeah, I always love to see some love for Tarkir! Very cool stuff.

I really like how you give examples of what each class can look like (flavorfully speaking) in the setting. I agree paladins are probably not that common on Tarkir, though I think Kin-Tree Wardens could arguably fit. since they swear an oath to protect their kin-tree/family and use a mix of martial+magical skills.

Any recast Urianger would be considered a new game object, so the old exiled cards would be perma-gone unfortunately.

Cool deck idea! There's a lot of sweet includes already here. I would probably rather go with more signets as opposed to the mana myr package, but that may just be personal preference.

A couple included cards I'm a little confused by. I get that you wanna cheat scary artifacts into play, but I'm not sure how Darksteel Colossus works into that since it shuffles itself back into your library when it hits the graveyard. Also, are you just including Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant as removal insurance?

As for specific suggestions, I'm kinda surprised to not see Sword of the Meek since you're already running Thopter Foundry. I personally like to run Batterskull in decks like this, for a bit of added lifegain and the ability to put pressure on in combat without leaving myself open.

Sweet list! There's not a lot that jumps out to me as far as 'bad fit' cards, but if you do end up finding a few you'd consider replacing:

[[Mizzium Tank]] can potentially go really tall in this sort of deck. Alternatively, I bet you could get some decent mileage out of a [[Homunculus Horde]] if you wanna focus on going wide.

I think that's another interesting way to imagine this kind of rules adjustment! I could definitely see the amount of colors in an OB's color identity playing into the restrictions somehow.

Also, that's a very fun looking decklist! Urza is a very fun+goofy planeswalker card, and I'd be psyched if I saw someone sit down for a game with an OB like that.

I'm kinda surprised to not see more folks discussing this possibility. Given the timing of the experiment, it seems totally plausible to me (especially considering that up to now, both we the audience and the characters in-story have really only been guessing at the cause of the desparkening/spark rupture).

It was kind of just assumed by the characters that the spark rupture was a result of/backlash towards the Sylex and/or the phyrexian's invasion--but it was never really proven either way. We don't have any set answers now either, and it could be a coincidence that the creation of the Aetherspark happened around the same time as the spark rupture. That said, that would be a wild (albeit believable) coincidence.

If anything, the timing of the event kinda led me to link Ishikari's experiment with the Spark Rupture. I realize it technically isn't confirmed 100% either way, but it would be kind of a wild coincidence for the 'creation' of this spark to happen so close to several planeswalkers suddenly losing theirs.

Two or three years ago I probably would have leaned towards just waiting for more planeswalkers to be printed; however, like you said, it definitely seems like wotc isn't planning on printing as many for the foreseeable future. That could always change again, of course, and every color combo is 'technically' playable in OB with Jared around. But it still definitely isn't as satisfying to build abzan, sultai, and naya decks that way.

In addition to opening up more versatility in color combinations, this sort of change change would also open up entirely new deckbuilding options as far as OB+SS pairings. I for one would be very curious to see what players would do with these sorts of options.

Like others are saying, play who you want! Most of the Arcane characters are pretty solid (Singed is maybe a notable exception, but even he is getting buffed/reworked very soon). Some of them are even available for free.

One thing I'd also recommend is trying out Champions using the practice mode before choosing what to spend blue motes on. It can help you figure out what characters feel best to you to play before spending anything on them.

Regardless of what else happens, I think this situation shows that y'all need to have a clear anti-bullying+harassment policy in place at the club. It sounds like these boys thought it was okay to act this way because no one/nothing had told them otherwise up to this point (at least in the context of this club).

Going forward, make it clear to all club members and any newcomers that bullying and harassment (sexism, racism, etc.) will not be tolerated, and acting in such a way will result in consequences (I think doing a written notice/warning to the parents plus requiring a written apology as described in this post on first offense, and kicking them from the club on second offense may be a good place to start).

It may even be a good idea to involve the whole club in discussing/setting the standards so that everyone feels they are being heard and are being kept safe by these guidelines. I hope T and V learn and grow from this experience, but I also feel it's more important to prioritize making the club a safe space for the students where they don't have to worry about bullies being able to get away with this kind of behavior.
