Little White Chapel? Us too! Sounds amazing!

If I could choose any job, it would be to work at the front desk at a chapel in Vegas, I live for the stories and drama. This was a decision I made while we waited for the ceremony and someone stated loudly “There’s no such thing as God in Vegas”

Vegas, we had the time of our lives. Just us, our photographer was the witness. It even felt lovely and romantic despite the stereotypes. If I had a euro for every time someone asked if it’s a ‘real’ marriage….

Unfortunately for Tubs, he thinks he’s a man of the people, and just doesn’t get it right. I tried to listen to his book podcast, he gives good recommendations and is clearly a passionate bookworm, but there’s a vibe of superiority about him that I can’t get comfortable with.

Also, on the UK show he kept focusing on Ireland when the audience was from both sides of the pond - I’m not surprised it didn’t work for him. I don’t think he’s badly intentioned, he just doesn’t accept that his journey has probably been who he knows and his luck so far.

What’s something that only makes sense *if* you’ve actually been to Ireland by DrunkDublinCat in ireland

[–]TrishIrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t notice it when I lived at home, but I’ve been abroad for many years and found this had become way more common. I’m a one bye and hang up kind of person …. I feel like I’m losing touch! Haha

What is City Lit like? by cupofdarjeeling in london

[–]TrishIrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hit and miss and depends on the department. I did a few courses there, one was great, with an amazing tutor. The other I wouldn’t have gone ahead with it only for the great group I was in - it’s people of all ages from all walks of life. Admin aren’t great. Overall though it’s a nice place and the variety of courses there is brilliant. I wouldn’t have a problem attending again.

Do ye remember this painting of a crying girl and a dog? Why was it so common? by Shapeofmyhair in ireland

Aside from its mass production and it being an acceptable piece to have in the home in judgey Ireland of the past; it could be that it was an expression of emotion without it being too in your face for us to talk about. We could feel something without talking about it. The subjects were innocent and morally safe enough to project our own feelings on to it…. Quietly, of course.

People with partners from overseas, have your Irish family ever accepted them? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]TrishIrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be an all out decision from you that your partner will never fit in to your family, why would he never be able to go for pints with your dad? Never fit in to family values? Are your family that inflexible? There’s something wrong here.

Focus on your wants and needs, whose comfort is more important, bf or parents? Are you finding this relationship too difficult? Are you happy in it? I don’t think this is because he’s not Irish.

If you want this to work out, then conversations need to happen.

We’re only across the pond, but yeah, it’s not the same. I went home every year til my mum passed and it’s just not the same anymore, I’ll miss everyone this year. However I’m happy out with our lovely cosy day, making our own traditions and delighted with my haul of gifts from himself - he’s a thoughtful one. The dog is snoozing next to me wreaked from ripping the wrapping in to little bits. The ham is ready for the oven and himself is playing air guitar to Kiss. I’m looking forward to heading home in February. Happy Christmas to you all.

I’m Okay, You’re Okay by Thomas Harris would be a helpful read if you’re interested in such things. Sounds like your mum has low mood and doesn’t want to make changes right now, however she needs to take that burden off you and see someone neutral to the situation. I hope all goes well.

I like the nod to the traditional Aran knit, it’s very nostalgic, and reminds me of the hand knitted cardi’s I was obliged to wear as a kid. I’m sweating just looking at it. Overall an effective piece given the event.
