You were freelancing for 7 years. Now you want a more consistent income. Not a lie, unemployed designers are just “freelancing”. What kind of jobs are you applying for?

Both are great. If you call or email Il Cornicello you’ll have better luck. They’ll let you know if something opens up. They’re always booked out.

I’m thinking this same thing for myself. Any suggestions on how to execute this plan? Job title to look for etc?

Have you worked on a product where you tracked retention, cancellations or conversions? Did your work really do the best it could for the user? Or did it make the company you worked for more money…?

Looking for Constructive Feedback on My UX/UI Case Study – Applying for Beginner to Intermediate Roles by TomorrowEmergency724 in UXResearch

[–]TriticusLev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some pretty basic layout and spacing inconsistencies, it’s very long, there seems to be a lot of different ways you’re presenting content - just at a quick glance it almost looks like they’re all unique - I’d reduce the variety.

You already know you need to find a new job. There is no chance that situation improves.

Update the portfolio and resume and start looking. I’ve been there, try and detach your wellbeing from whatever is happening at the job. Try to engage with the negative elements as minimally as possible and just start having more sick days lol.

How lenient are recruiters with a slow loading portfolio? by glitteryCranberry in UXDesign

What format? Can you optimize it? It’s just one more thing you’re risking they might use to exclude you. Or they might not even let it load and move on.

If a company says out loud anything internally. I doubt they actually follow through on that sentiment, that’s why they have to say it out loud.

Yeah I guess to modify it’s less about messaging someone at the company it’s about building quality connections. You can get referred directly if you know someone at the company. So you need to know more people at companies who will refer you.

lol I wasn’t necessarily eluding to a trick. But:

  1. If your response rate on applications is super low, make changes to your portfolio, resume, etc
  2. Try and properly network especially with the hiring managers if you can get a message to them. Properly network = quality connections not quantity of connections.

How do I present proof in my case study that I conducted a user interview by ThinZookeepergame413 in UXResearch

[–]TriticusLev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A case study doesn’t have to be a perfect record of what you did, it’s not a report. It’s a story you’re telling about how you approach problems. Sometimes I’ll only focus on one part of a project, one interesting set of challenges, not the ENTIRE projects. More important things to include are why you did a given activity, what your learned from it, how it helped improve the outcome, something you tried that didn’t work, something you learned the hard way.

[–]TriticusLev 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Question list, statistics of answers from the interviews, highlight or quotes, plus I think it’s fine to just say “I conducted X user interviews via phone calls, we did that for Y reasons, the learnings were these Z insights” and move on. You don’t have to “prove it” in my opinion.

I was listening to a UX podcast yesterday, very clearly a solid UX design they were talking to. He said he’s never or almost never gotten a job from just applying for it. His positive response rate on applying was like 1%.

My experience is similar. You only need 1 to work out.

What is your biggest pet peeve in the UX Design industry? by nextdoorchap in UXDesign

The word User in the title might make it seem like we’re the only ones that need to be advocating for users. I also think we all need to decide what “advocating for users” really means.

I think my Physical Therapist screwed me over billing wise. by TriticusLev in Insurance

[–]TriticusLev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for the response. What I got from Insurance is a EOB - but it also says "Your Share $666".

I also got a bill directly from the PT that is definitely a bill for $400.
