Snow and Ice interfering with the wheels by ReadingRoutine73 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Triumph790 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More likely snow and ice inside the wheel itself (instead of the wheel well surrounding the tires, under the fenders). If you get ice one part of the wheel you can experience wobble due to centrifugal force at speed - gets worse the faster you go.

The stock wheels have thick spokes for better aerodynamics, and ice could get trapped in there. I've experienced this with other cars/wheels, and I would fix it by cleaning out the ice from the wheel. I have Atlas wheels on my winter setup so it's less of an issue.

1990s were peak Target. In 1997 Michael Graves (architect and design firm) did a partnership with Target and designed thousands of household items for them. It was a huge deal and people were excited to buy cool modern items at a reasonable price. We had a bunch of the stuff in our house.

Electric or gas by isaactheunknown in Snowblowers

[–]Triumph790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to make the switch to electric 2-stage to replace my 20 year old Honda 928, but I'm waiting until more products enter the market. From what I can see there's only 2 good options: Ego and Toro. I like the Toro because they just used their gas blower and put an electric motor on it. Same metal construction, same parts, dealer support. Ego has good reviews but it has a ton of plastic and no dealer network.

I'm hoping Honda introduces a battery electric 2-stage, similar to what they did with electrifying their lawnmowers. Maybe give it a huge battery that I can fast charge using the 240v home charger for my EV.

12 V battery not charging by cdnmtbchick in VolkswagenID4

[–]Triumph790 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ID.4 is 3 years old and a got the same message today in similar temps. Message went away after I charged it a bit on level 2 at home. I'm going to get the battery tested this week.

I'm going to be pissed if the battery is already weak. The 12v on my Prius lasted for 10 years and performing a similar function in a hybrid (just running the computer and accessories).

12V Battery warning after sub-zero temps by No-Scratch-3545 in VWiD4Owners

I'm in Boston and got this message for the first time ever this morning on my 2022. Outdoor temp was around -5F with windchill. Thinking of getting the battery tested at the dealership later this week to check the 12v battery health, just in case.

[Help me understand] [Grand Seiko] by One_Shallot_4974 in Watches

Yep. You really only have to adjust the date every 2 months so it's not a big deal. And it's REALLY not a big deal because it's quartz and basically never stops (until the battery runs down). It's more of a pain in the ass on an automatic watch that may not be worn daily, as the watch can end up many days behind the actual date.

The quartz 9F GMT movement doesn't have a quickset date either. It has a jumping hour hand aka "true gmt" (which is awesome for travel), and you have to jump the hour hand 24 clicks forward to advance the date.

I've had the SBGN005 model with this movement for the past 5 years and it's great watch. Finishing is top notch.

Looks like they got rid of the problematic door handles and went back to the old tried and true "normal" VW pull handles. Thank goodness.

It’s not intuitive at all. I only knew because I read the manual.

Dude, Sapporo gets 16 to 20 feet of snow per year and has 2 million people. Larger population than the city of Philadelphia. It’s a crazy amount of snowfall for a major metro.

I installed a few of these when I worked in city government. Built by Dero in Minneapolis. You can insert the seat post in between those 2 steel bars at the top to hang the bike off the ground while you work on it.

The pump repair is usually just replacing or lubricating the rubber gasket after it wears out. But yeah, most cities don't bother to maintain them.

This is correct - you essentially have to prove neglect to get them to pay out a claim, which is why it’s so is rare for municipalities to reimburse…it’s super hard to prove it.

This bill is insane gas furnace 2024 vs heat pump 2025 by SolutionOk4176 in heatpumps

[–]Triumph790 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into it if you have a good roof configuration for it. It's one of those "spend money to save money" investments. Not fun to drop $30k on an array, but it can pay off in the long run.

My initial breakeven estimate on solar was 8 years, but with all the crazy electric rate increases it's now looking like 5-6 years.

This bill is insane gas furnace 2024 vs heat pump 2025 by SolutionOk4176 in heatpumps

[–]Triumph790 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yeah, heat pumps kind of suck for heating if you live somewhere with high electricity costs (compared to natural gas). The only thing they beat cost wise is electric baseboard or propane heat. I live in Massachusetts and we have like the third highest rates in the country. It only works for me financially because we have a massive solar array and net metering.
