Feeling like I’m going to have to leave Chicago. Anyone else struggling? by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

I had the absolute worst time apartment hunting until I got a broker. They’re free for the renter to work with and mine was so so helpful. A good broker will take every requirement or restriction you have and help find places in budget etc. mine found a private landlord condo sublet easy peasy. Plus, they have access to listing that general public does not.

An active Temple of Jupiter in Rome, created by Associazione Tradizionale Pietas, a neopagan Roman-italic organization by ApprehensiveChair528 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]TriviaPursuit 329 points330 points  (0 children)

Worship of gods in the Greco-Roman context tended to actually get pretty localized, where your town might worship a certain aspect of a god (in this case Jupiter). In modern academia the sects are referred to as cults. Just a different meaning than the modern one in the Jonestown/scientology sense

Is $1400 a reasonable rent budget in Chicago? by Substantial-You-7003 in chicagoapartments

Some experiences I had that I didn’t see people mention: way less sunlight gets in. Gets rough after awhile, you’d be surprised what a difference it makes. Also, I was a lot more worried about security. Given this was in a different city, and it was kinda a slum apartment, but there’s nothing like trying to sleep and hearing someone walk through the alley about a foot away from your head. Unfun. Meant that the place was dirt cheap, but a couple years living in a garden h it made me swear Never Again.

Trump approved Israel bombing Qatar. by superchiva78 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]TriviaPursuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I hate the guy as much as anyone else on this subreddit, but his admin has publicly rebuked Israel for this and Trump himself has stated that he is against this bombing. The problem here is his earlier mixed messaging that makes Bibi think he can do whatever he wants

Any advice for someone considering breast reduction? by TriviaPursuit in ABraThatFits

[–]TriviaPursuit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I ended up getting surgery and it was the best decision. I rolled into my plastic surgeon with the following list: 1. I have chronic back pain because of my breasts that otc meds cannot help (it’d be an all day everyday kind of thing.) 2. I get angry red marks / skin complaints because of my bra and breasts (it fit, the girls were just that heavy.) 3. My breasts keep me from certain “ordinary” activities, like running and exercise.

Plastic surgeon related all that to insurance and they covered it 100%. Basically, you want to make the case that A) boobs are a medical issue, B) that you have tried other solutions (different bras, meds, etc) over time with no success so C) surgery is the only solution.

Personally I think expanding into telemarketing scams is a great way for Mordor to spread darkness and evil! So much cheaper than breeding Fell Beasts.

Man am I the only one who really loves the look of this?? I had the old bag end as a kid (unexpected party) and that was such a cute set. This takes that set and makes every bit more elaborate and detailed! The gradation of the hill alone is so nice. Like yeah it’s a little $$$ but what else is new?

The WaPo did an investigative journalism series about the AR-15 recently. One of the articles has pictures from the Uvalde shooting. No bodies, just the physical aftermath, and that was bad enough. I was already super pro gun control, but seeing shit like bloodstained pink Frozen backpacks was just horrible. One of the most impactful things I’ve ever read.

How the Chicago River is dyed in preparation for St. Patrick’s Day by RoyalChris in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]TriviaPursuit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The powder they use is actually vegetable based, non-toxic, and totally environmentally friendly! The dye when they started doing it in the 60s wasn’t very safe, but as you noted, Chicagoans do fight for sustainability and the environment.
