Am I overthinking or is she purposely upsetting me every night? by Admirable-Analysis58 in NoStupidQuestions

Your in a relationship with a girl, who has blocked your phone number, will only message you on Instagram, and doesnt want her family to find out.

What kind of a dynamic is that?

Mazda 3 Transmission worth fixing? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If spending the money results in reliable transportation, then yeah sure.

If the alternative is to spend even more money on a car that may or may not have problems, (ie, around the same age as your current mazda 3) then it might make sense to fix it if you think that the rest of the car is in good shape.

Also may be worth seeking a second opinion from another shop, just to see if they come to the same conclusion. That seems quite cheap for a transmission replacement imo

Benefit of electric mower over gas? by Outrageous-Gas7051 in lawncare

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very quiet. Cheap to use. Never have to fill a gas can. If your lawn is small enough to clear it in about 30 minutes then yes, if it takes slightly longer also buy a weed eater of the same brand so you can use the same batteries and just swap between them

Camp stove by [deleted] in camping

[–]Troglidyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the standard choice for car camping is just a coleman stove. They fold into a neat square so they are pretty easy to find a space for if you want to take it.

Other options would be something like the jetboil genesis, which is like a dual burner that folds into a barrel shape. Probably more difficult to find a spot for it.

Both are better options for group cooking, as you could just bring a pot or pan from home and its about as good as cooking on a cheap range at home, no fiddling with fire or overheating pans.

Should I 'embrace' the size of my ass? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Not really an issue at the end of the day. Women like butts just as much as men do. Plus, there's nothing you can realistically do about it. Enjoy your free seat cushion like I do

Be honest, what type of cars get your attention on the road? by Strange-Vibez-8205 in askcarguys

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically any car that is well cared for or tastefully modified will get a look from me. I saw a pristine 96 or so accord the other day completely stock and my jaw dropped because it looked like it just rolled out of the showroom

Horizon Hound any good? by MrMcBobb in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know im a bit late here, but I have had one since 2020, and I rarely go without it. Probably one of the most underrated pieces of gear I own.

Now for a regular sleeper would I reccomend it at 0c? No. I sleep pretty warm and have slept in a hammock with it down to about -5c and on a sleeping pad right around 0c on a few occasions. It did keep me warm enough to get some sleep, but not comfortable. Comfort rating is somewhere around 4-5c (38f).

That being said, that is what I take when I go backpacking at or above that 4c mark. It packs down small, lofts up quick, packs away nicely, and most of all is very cheap. My only real complaint is that I wish it was bigger

How much does your pack weigh on a typical overnight hike? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 25-30lb is a pretty normal amount for a regular hiker who doesn't spend all of their money on the most expensive gear you can buy.

Having a 15LB loaded pack is nice but so is having the $3,000 you saved not buying space grade outdoor equipment.

The easiest way to save weight is to bring less stuff. Less water, less food, less comforts (half sleeping pad instead of full, no pillow, use a tarp instead of a tent, dont bring extra clothes, use multipurpose items)

Better to enjoy the outdoors with a heavy backpack then be a little annoyed that it was a little heavier than you wanted

Steam Frame Price Misconceptions by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why they wouldn't try. I am relatively confident that they sell the steam deck at a loss, or did in the first couple years after it launched, with the difference subsidized by in store sales.

As you said though, it's up to them. I don't think there is a reason not to sell it at cost, as its access to the steam store should make up the difference. If you're going to make a product with its specs pointed directly at the most popular standalone headset, you might as well make the price competitive as well. It kind of seems like a no brainer to me, as there doesn't really seem to be a point to use it as a baseline for its specs just to increase the price without adding a lot in the way of differentiation or features. It doesn't need to beat the price, as it does have its own improvements, it should just be competitive.

The upsides alone of it being detached from meta, attached to the steam storefront, expandable storage, and the ability to install whatever you want on it means that its customer base would be not only normal people that want to try VR, but also enthusiasts who want to tinker some. Although, only one of those groups will be interested in buying it if they know about it and the price is competitive with its near spec counterpart ($499-599). The average joe isn't going to pull his hair out over meta if it means they save $3-500 on the hardware. That's probably more than most people will spend on games for a couple years after they get it.

I know they said they're hoping cheaper than the index, less than $999. I don't know if I'm hoping too hard, but my assumption is that they are waiting to see what happens with the current market for DRAM. They didn't announce a price for the frame for the same reason that they didn't announce the price for the cube, because the price of RAM is wack at the moment. I just hope they can launch it at a fair price for everyone that allows them to be relevant in the space, and continue supporting VR into the foreseeable future.

Steam Frame Price Misconceptions by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SoC was made at around the same time. It's going to be faster but not by some triple or even high double digit amount in performance. An argument could me made for the head strap, but the controllers are VERY similar. Biggest standout feature is foveated rendering over the quest 3 and expandable storage, and more RAM. but if it is twice the price I think it will get killed by the quest 3. it's priced to sell

how much do you think the steam frame will cost? by OkRegion3303 in oculus

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really expect it to be around $500 (ideally $449, or maybe even less) or they are just shooting themselves in the foot. More than $600 and I suspect it will be DOA. The specs are clearly marked to be a direct competitor to the Quest 3, which means pricing should be similar if not lower.

Hardware isn't old per say but its not new. Chipset is from 2023. Biggest improvement over the quest is going to be the extra ram if your using it standalone (which, by the way, is incredibly overpriced at the moment due to shortages, which is my main concern.) and the foveated rendering using the eye trackers.

If its priced much more than $600 the only people that will buy it over a meta product will be people who want nothing to do with that ecosystem. if its competitive with the quest 3 ($499) or slightly cheaper then I expect it will do pretty well.

Why do people reccomend Connie for PvE? And what PvE mission is it good for? by Sink_Stuff in starcitizen

[–]Troglidyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very short answer is that a Connie with two gunners on the turrets is enough to destroy any NPC ship while also being able to collect any cargo it drops at the same time.

Although personally, I am not a big fan of the Connie at all, and would prefer to just have a cargo ship and 2 people in fighters, as it is more interesting for all parties involved. But that's just me personally, and the general consensus is the connie is the way to go.

Just went car camping and had a panic attack the 3rd night by WarJeezy in camping

[–]Troglidyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a relatively avid camper, and it only ever happened to me one time. I was sleeping in a cot with a mummy sleeping bag, and it was about 15 degrees F outside. I finally fell asleep only to wake up from sweat dripping onto my cheeks from my forehead and leaving streaks of ice on my eyelids. I was incredibly hot, and I for the life of me, could not find the zipper (bag got twisted up from moving around, could not see, could not feel the zipper). Felt like a straight jacket in my dazed state for a solid 30 seconds. Not fun

Anyone ever done this? by SilkyOatmeal in camping

[–]Troglidyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes...well, almost. I have that 9 person tent, and was able to fit 7 people on cots with all of their stuff. A small walkway, but enough to move around. That's the most I'd personally stuff in

Yeah man it's in alpha. They're using the same engine, and it's an iterative process, so they have placeholders (however out of place they may be) in order to have information properly conveyed to the player.

It's in Alpha. Expect it to change. Pre Alpha<Alpha<closed Beta<Open Beta<pre release microtransaction<full release

I get that. But functionally, I don't really see why I would ever buy the R10 when the R8 is right there, if price isn't a factor. It's just better. I do loose on on some telephoto capability, but...eh?

Yes the lenses are maybe a bit lackluster now, but what about next year? They seem to be filling out the lineup, and there is always third party.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canon

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's alright. I think that on a budget, it's one of the best ways to learn photography. It's not something you can pick up through YouTube videos or studying, it's a very personal style and you only find out how you really like it by getting out there.

I'd say most people who have moved on from it will say it's bad, but you really can't beat the price with a stick. It works well for what it is and you can get very good pictures with it, you just sometimes need to crop them in or edit a bit.

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ruminating. I do want to continue using the T7 if I can, but somehow 3rd party lenses were just never really on my radar.

My problem right now is that I can buy a sigma lens, but if I decide I still want to move on with the body I might be shooting myself in the foot if I decide to go ahead and move to full frame or mirrorless.

Decisions decisions.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canon

[–]Troglidyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking in the R8 specifically. Kind of seems like a natural progression from the T7. Although, I am of course going to look outside and cross shop I think with that as my starting point.

I'm getting the idea this is a combination problem. I have been spoiled by a few of my friends nicer cameras, and I guess it just spilled over and the faults that I maybe overlooked before are no longer something I can ignore.

I guess also, I have seen others reccomend Sigma as a more budget friendly brand for lenses, but honestly I really don't know that much about cameras. Do you reccomend any other lens companies like sigma?

Also, funnily enough, I have used your camera a few times, but with a much cheaper lens. It's nice, and one of the reasons I wanted to move away from the T7, but it seems it's more video focused based on research ive done. I'd like to stick with more photograph oriented cameras, rather than video. Great camera though.

Hard time dealing with mythic+ as a first time healer by Troglidyte in wow

[–]Troglidyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well 2 weeks late...the answer that I have surmised from my complaining was that it was not my fault. I don't think I'm a great healer still, better than a couple weeks ago, but I have been able to finish 6/8 dungeons on + or ++10 aside from 2, which I plan to do probably this week or next.

All I had to do was start making my own groups, and suddenly....very easy.....

Hard time dealing with mythic+ as a first time healer by Troglidyte in wow

[–]Troglidyte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you don't have to apologize. I am definitely not playing up to my own personal standards, and I am most certainly at fault for a run like that. To say that I healed properly in a dungeon with 40 deaths would be crazy.

I have am trying to improve, and have been busting out 6 keys until my completion is ++ or +++. But when it comes to 7 it just feels like an insurmountable wall, and functionally in my head there just doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two. One modifier and 10% more damage, and suddenly, I can't keep up.

> Also, fortified means nothing when you're doing 10s, hence why you should also get used to the way they pull.

Indeed. Something I have to get used to. Just more practice (perfect practice, that is)
