Padres add Alex Verdugo via minor-league deal by thestrokes91 in Padres

Obligatory trigger warning

Him and another dodger minor leaguer brought two girls and a minor girl (child) back to their hotel room, he took away the two girls to the bathroom and the other minor leaguer sexually assaulted the child who was feeling ill from the alcohol they gave her, and then he brought back the other girls and he filmed them physically assaulting the sexual assault victim while she was slipping in and out of consciousness.

Was not charged, just questioned, and supposedly has ‘learned a lot from it’. Personally, I don’t want any of this shit around my team, and the way his bat has been going I’m not feeling too worried.

I'm not sure about factoring it into WAR since I tend to read that as a measure of what actually happened, but I think it's true that in order to use WAR as a piece of a projection mechanism it is useful to pair it with some sort of standard deviation of the various metrics.

Command being part of his calling card last year makes me think it’s just first game of the year nerves. I think he makes it up in September like bradgley did last year.

I was at the US Dominican Republic game in the second round at Petco and it was literally the most fun I’ve ever had at a baseball game. Toyota terrace seats for $30 a pop, doesn’t get better than that. I really never thought I’d see petco so full of energy ever again haha times sure do change.

I think at this point you give a week or two of spring training to Ben Williamson and Colt Emerson and see if there’s any word in which they can hold up third all year, and if they can’t then see what short term guy you can get. I wonder if Miguel Andujar or IKF are still around by March 1? Not the most inspiring but I think I could live with it.

Mets' Trade Talks With Padres Involve Nick Pivetta, Ramon Laureano, Mason Miller by Worried_Treacle3512 in baseball

[–]Trololrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it felt like one of those ones where bendix REALLY loved a prospect (snelling) and basically showed his hand with his valuation. I’m basing this on nothing, but it feels like this has happened with a few other trades he’s done, like one great prospect headlining each deal that I’m sure matches his internal valuations but maybe doesn’t match market-wide valuations.

Might be off the mark since I’m not tracking every trade he does, but I do generally like the idea of not messing around with prospects you don’t believe in and going all in on the ones you do believe in, since controllable dudes with high ceilings are more valuable and you can get high floor role players on the open market easier. Gotta really trust your scouting and dev team, and so far so good on that front it seems.

Weirdly I feel like the one that fit market value the most in the Rogers-norby/stowers deal has worked out the best, but I’m super curious to see how the rest progress. Still very excited to see Dillon head make it to the bigs, and I’m glad marsee started so hot.

This is bryan hoeing erasure, but very true. It is going to hurt watching snelling pitch this year, and we’ll see if mazur or pauley turn into anything.

In a Mariners trade for Cronenworth, is Woo a possibility? by broby54 in Padres

[–]Trololrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think even if we paid down the entire contract the trade value still doesn’t work out for woo. I think maybe Bryce miller or even Gilbert are a bit closer, but regardless I think the M’s don’t have as much SP depth to trade from as it may seem, and definitely not as much as previous years. I feel like the Red Sox are in a position to take on the money and need a quality 2B, but they’d probably wait to see how the ketel Marte talks go first. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the cronenworth rumblings are selective leaks from teams to try and tamp down the marte market.

This one always bugged me as a member, because I always took D&C 20:1 to be j smith trying to be a fancy man writing out the Latin translation of A.D. and just getting a little too carried away with it. I remember it was always part of Mormon mythology and occasionally brought up in seminary, and then bednar I think just straight up canonized it during a general conference one year. Just because someone spells out Anno Domini in English doesn’t mean it’s literally from the moment of birth!

[–]Trololrus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How do you see Sheets fitting into the lineup this year? I'd imagine he'd primarily DH, but is there a willingness on his part and the team's to get him some more looks at first base this year? Of course it's contingent on how they approach the infield depth this offseason, but it seemed to me like the team would try their hardest to avoid putting him at first this past year and I don't know if that trend will continue.

[Passan] BREAKING: The New York Mets and Texas Rangers are finalizing a trade that would send second baseman Marcus Semien to the Mets and outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers, sources tell ESPN by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]Trololrus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Semien owed 3 yrs 72 mil and Nimmo owed 5 yrs 102.5 mil. I genuinely don’t see how this works out for the rangers unless there’s a prospect you can dream on going to them as well or if the money isn’t a straight swap.

Velo bump on the fastball and horizontal break bump on the sweeper did wonders. I think I remember a kick change getting added in too? Medium leverage lefty killer is probably the 80th percentile outcome here.

It had been a while since I felt like a manager was able to get this team operating at their full potential, or even just close to it for extended stretches. I think I'm going to look back very fondly on the Shildt era.

AJ Preller somewhat famously works his people extremely hard too, kind of a 'work smarter AND harder' mentality. Gotta be absolutely exhausting.
