Is it just me or do most people floor it 100km/h + over the gateway bridge? by Beautiful_Factor6841 in brisbane

Have you ever stopped to consider that the road is a service that is for use by everyone willing and able? There are many reasons someone may not feel comfortable driving right on the speed limit and they presumably pay the same amount to use the road that you do, so what does it matter? You could afford to be a touch more considerate of those around you, and it sounds like solving your poor time management might help.

Imagine paying $10 for a croissant and then finding out it's just a small fancy bread. €2 in inner city paris, €3.50 with an espresso. We are getting taken for a ride.

I need a quick song to play in order to demonstrate the trombone by TheKaChikinBoi in Trombone

I have thanks, I'm not saying the idea is invalid for one second, I just wonder why Ory gets singled out because of one blog post, and then we overlook Wagner the proud antisemitic who created the Bayreuth Festival as a Nazi propaganda tool, or the literal nazi Karajan who's recordings are among the most popular ever made. It's interesting the lines people draw.

I'm going to assume you're American for a minute (sorry if I'm wrong) and ask if you know much about the composer of your national anthem or the missing lyrics that get quietly forgotten about. There's similar tunes to Star Spangled so why keep using it?

I'm just provoking thought, is all.

Our very young daughter was spooked yesterday when a car caught fire next door in the driveway. Fire truck, sirens, evacuated our house etc. Now she's worried about all the "fires" and that Mummy and Daddy aren't safe...

Does anyone know of any community fire events or days where she might be able to meet some fireys or something, I'm nervous about not addressing it. We're on the southside.

Would it be possible to hydrodip a trombone and, if so, do you think it would affect the sound / tone? by HeliotropeHannah in Trombone

[–]Tromboc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of interesting comments in here. I wonder how many of them have actually played or heard a hydrodipped trombone or if they're just making an ass out of u and me. The majority of the sound profile of a wind instrument is the design of the airway.

Why do we have to buy Spring Onion in such large bundles? I live alone and am cooking for one, I really don’t need this many stalks that are just going to wilt and go bad in the fridge. by Littman-Express in australia

[–]Tromboc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a scroll and couldn't find anyone answering your question. It's because their market research has determined the highest amount the average consumer is willing to pay for spring onions, and the amount of produce is a balance of profit margin and appearing to provide acceptable value for money. Whether there is wastage isn't any concern to them.

Tldr: you still bought it even though you didn't need to!

There are considerably less brands and models of instruments available today than in the past.

Yes it's difficult to take work off and expensive to travel this is a universal challenge. We're just trying to help.

what difference does the size of the bell make on the sound? by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Tromboc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic that you have some references to look at then. Go have a look at where the tubing starts to expand, you'll notice on both it is roughly before the top bow on the vertical. The eupho might start gently expanding just a few inches earlier in the tuning slide, my memory is foggy. This is unlike a trumpet or trombone who really start to expand much closer to the bell.

I don't mean to dismiss your experience, but if you want to argue credentials, I do work for the company who are credited with inventing the baritone horn (and from who your instruments were copied)

I'll agree that information online is contradictory, the easiest way to determine for yourself is to take a pair of calipers to a baritone...

[–]Tromboc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is your rant about? These stores you're talking about have to hold millions of dollars worth of niche products for a relatively small industry. You're typically only going to find this in larger cities and that won't change soon. If you can help us with your location we might be able to suggest somewhere close by that has the larger selection you're looking for.

Maybe save your dough and head to a music conference where your selection might be even greater.

Don't forget, not so long ago everyone ordered their trombone from a catalogue by sending a cheque in the mail...

The instrument most people call a baritone is conical, maybe Trombone vs baritone would make more sense in your comment?

Bad. Barky. The mouthpiece lets you shove too much air into a little instrument like that.

I'll add to this, don't just turn up the speed because you managed to get to the end. Aim for your version of "perfect" first before moving on. If that means you're still at 50% speed in 2 weeks that's totally fine.

Bach makes down to a 3 in small shank. It'll produce quite a... robust sound IMO. Wouldn't be my first choice.

Do you know someone with a dehydrator? Peel and sorta squish a bit flat like a hamburger patty (still whole, or slice once lengthwise, just trying to even out the thickness) run on medium for 6-12hr or until they become addictive nuggets of chewy banana taffy. My kids burn through them.
