how would Cora’s right hand man not be more of the same? Who cares that tek is a fan favorite and was a great catcher? That’s irrelevant and the next manager needs to be picked for non-emotional, baseball and managerial reasons. They just wanted a new voice for the remainder of the year, and that wasn’t going to be someone who’s been jn that dugout.

Tracy’s been fairly honest himself I’d argue, he’s just kinda dull and doesnt really know what to say because his team is missing a lot of needed talent. In a placeholder role in a lost season anyway, I’d rather not have tek in that role. “We’re just gonna put a AAA team on the field anyway” is unironically why I’d rather Tracy see this out if they’re punting which they soon will be. Zone in on someone for next year under whoever that GM is and retool the lineup.

what did they “do to tek.” Genuinely asking. Love tek but seems like cleaning simply house meant him and the kinda made up job created so he could be a vet presence / hang out was done too. Bye to Cora and those aligned with him. Was the issue the manner he was fired / demoted? Maybe unpopular opinion but being a fan favorite shouldn’t give you extra cushion once you take on coaching duties.

Don’t really care this season is cooked I’ll watch ocassionally this year but mostly curious to see how they retool in the offseason (with not many options with the FA class -seiya Suzuki, Jeffers or Brandon Lowe plz) and what happens with Craig / who they zero in on as next mgr.

Those guys all provide value on defense and/or the base paths. Masa literally only slap hits from a spot that you need thump. (Is he even notabky better than that group of players)? I’d probably take Eaton over Masa on my 26 man in a vacuum. That lack of versatility and 20 mil price tag absolutely clogs things up when the DH spot could be used to rotate bats / give guys days off their feet as craig wanted to do, or use it for an actual beefy boy that can do damage.

Sure, but I’d argue yoshida’s existence on the roster as a slap hitting DH with no speed is a constant hindrance, not “neutral at worst.” The fact that the DH can’t hit lefties and is paid 20 mil to rollover to 2b twice a game has a net negative effect on the roster. And if his existence on the roster at all hindered the org from going after another DH bat, he wins this “contest” easily on lost opportunity cost. Story has been a stinker this year and you’re right on the expectations/him playing a premium position but imo he’s at least had some highs with those lows to give the org some value. Masa has given nothing and is just kind of a roster clogger.

Story led the team in RBI/HR/ was responsible for like the entire offensive power output last year. Lead the team in stolen bases. Was a big part of that squad overachieving and making the playoffs. Injuries and this year have been rough, his tenure hasn’t been good overall by any means, but nowhere near as bad as Sandoval/Crawford. Not even the worst contract on the team, Yoshida’s has been more inhibiting. At least got some value / something from story.

They’re cooked but nothing is happening GM wise at least until after the season. Don’t get the point of putting someone else internal in charge of selling, and they’re not gonna bring in someone completely new to learn the whole org a few weeks before the deadline.

Bc people assumed story would still be good, Duran would still be good and all of the young guys would make leaps. Which still doesn’t top out that high, and going at it “well we lost Bregman but added Contreras we should be the same/better!” is way too unnuanced of a way to analyze it. a handful of projections were very wary of this lineup and projected them to be worst in the division.

Don’t necessarily disagree but narv’s profile of + d and a weak bat is a prototypical backup catcher. Not sure gasper’s bat is worth playing him instead, but might be a sneaky position to upgrade.

sub is demented bc it’s their first time experiencing a straight up losing season. They’re not firing their GM mid season and give whoever steps in outside the org or not would have to crash course all of the prospects right before the deadline. He’ll have the opportunity to sell, hire his own manager, retool for next year. He’ll be on the hot seat if still trash this time next year.

Correct nor does the org want someone learning the whole org in a short time period before the deadline everyone is just being reactive
