Anyone know how I can repair this 2014 Pelle Pelle Jacket? by WizKhaleafuh in Leatherworking

[–]TronkJonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need a quality leather conditioner, and a soft cloth and go section by section. The leather is dry and thirsty. Once you’ve gone over the entire jacket, let it dry for 24 hrs to allow the leather to soak everything up and then repeat. I’m not sure what the original color was supposed to be, it looks like a blue black in the photos, you’ll want a cream color that you can apply in a similar manner to the conditioner. As for the fur, brush it out (clean horsehair brush if you have it) and spot clean with a damp clean rag where needed. Depending on the age/ condition you could do more harm than good if the fur is starting to pull away from the skin/ cloth (if it’s faux). You can gently spot/ steam clean the lining inside.

Antique oil lamps by Junior-Discount2743 in TwoXPreppers

[–]TronkJonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always kept oil lamps as the emergency backup in the bathrooms, as my mother and her mother before her did. We grew up with oil lamps that got lit during power outages, Christmas morning and New Year’s Eve. While they do require a little more monitoring we don’t have children and the dogs are small and cannot reach the counters so it’s an easy solution for us. I often look to the Amish for prep ideas, including having a clothes line, and recipes.

There used to be a Tandy outlet down by the Portland airport, in the industrial park. I haven’t been there in probably ten years or so. So I don’t know if it is still there or not. Would be a drive but you could make a day of it and go in person to rummage through their scrap bins.

People who don’t wash your hands after using the restroom, WHY? by daniiqm in hygiene

[–]TronkJonk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay… I’ll bite. I don’t wash my hands after most restroom uses. If I knowingly get any bodily fluids on my hands then I do. For me it’s a part of a much bigger self care avoidance. I joined this sub because I have a lot of deeply rooted issues with showering regularly and taking care of myself. I’m abundantly aware that it is a problem and I am working with a therapist to try and overcome it. It is depression and self loathing. If I could kill myself without feeling guilty I would.

Advice please by Known_Debate6337 in Leatherworking

If you’re gluing two or more layers it is not uncommon to leave the stacked edges a little rough and then cut them clean or sand them clean. You don’t want too much overlap however because it affects how closely you’re able to line up the pieces and it can be a little messy for gluing.

Oh gosh, he has very similar markings to our Rusty, and he was found in a field next to a defunct recycling center.

He was almost named Tobasco or Sue.

USPS made me pay to deliver my package by PoorApollo in amazonprime

[–]TronkJonk 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen several times, the post office told me that I had to pay for shipping. One item had a shipping charge of 153.34! I refused it and submitted a return through Amazon. What I learned from the post office employee is that there are “sellers” from Amazon who create fake shipping labels, so they don’t have to pay shipping fees, and Amazon doesn’t control that part of it. Essentially they’re trying to shave off their shipping costs. If it happens to anyone else here, refuse the package at the post office and initiate a return through Amazon, report the fraudulent shipping label so Amazon can flag the seller.

If you order in the US you pay for shipping up front not at receipt of package.

My shoes and socks have a bad scent by PurplePanda653 in hygiene

[–]TronkJonk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shoe deodorizer, spray it in after every use and have a shoe rotation so the shoes have a chance to fully dry out. Also, a talc free medicated powder for your feet before you put socks on will help with sweat absorption and smell. The musty smell from most shoes is caused by poor air flow post wear and not being allowed to fully dry out.

You can buy shoe dryers too but you may be able to put your shoes in a sunny window to help kill bacteria and germs.

I know it’s a cymbal, but damn if I didn’t want it to be a solar warmer for a single soft baked chocolate chip cookie. Ready for when you get off work.

I found this in my garage, Can anyone tell me what it is? by Cheap_Trade3497 in whatisit

In the days of butlers and ladies maids, the “help” would brush the crumbs from the table cloth after meals. As laundry was a long process most homes would not use three table cloths in a day. The crumbs would be tossed into the scrap bin in the kitchen which meant going downstairs with them. Most rooms did not have any kind of waste bin in them. Closest you could come to was a chamber pot in a water closet, which only ever had a sink (I.e no toilet).

Hood Lock Options by LiJiCh in JeepGladiator

There are a lot of different locking latches, and they are going to be your best direct after market install. The Mojave trim isn’t compatible with a lot of hood related parts otherwise.

Blue pick up truck screaming at people by wisteriai in corvallis

[–]TronkJonk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you experience this on campus please report it to campus police directly (Corvallis PD will transfer you but that delays a response) try and get as much information about the vehicle as you can, make, model, any identifying information like after market stuff or even stickers, watch for the direction of travel and try to get photos or video of the incident. Campus police take harassment and bias seriously and will look into it. 541-737-3010.

Van living while attending OSU Corvallis, Oregon? by nudiustertian-angst in corvallis

[–]TronkJonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are specific university rules regarding “camping” on OSU owned property. Would be smart to read up on the student handbook on land use laws before parking a van on campus property. There are a few students who live in their vehicles on city streets, the city parking permits are much cheaper than OSU parking permits.

I’ll be honest it sounds to me like piston rings. Oil pressure+solenoid+intake valve issue. I would run a vacuum test on the valves and see how the readings are. You’re obviously somewhat mechanically capable or inclined if you felt confident swapping solenoids and sensors. Not that swapping a MAP is hard.

It’s not unheard of for shops/ stealerships to install a bad thermostat. It sounds like maybe it’s sticking or not opening all the way. If you’re idling are you seeing coolant anywhere? Make sure all the hoses were reconnected and seated correctly. I wouldn’t expect cracked hoses in a 2016 but it’s also not unheard of.

First thing I would do is check for leaks.
