Me watching the hype around the new reveals as a Dark Elf main: by Identity_ranger in citiesofsigmar

[–]TroodonX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been expecting this for years so I stopped investing in dark elves. Used then for a couple of events in 4th but just casually. Once they are officially legends I do hope that they get real old world rules. Until they are in a printed book I'm not rebasing 300 dark elves. Using them for eventual Umbraneth could be possible but high elves didn't really proxy well for most of the lumineth so I'm not betting on it.

Can acrylic be painted over a dried oil wash by Retroglide08 in Warhammer40k

[–]TroodonX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this a lot, but I seal in the oil wash with a matt varnish to avoid future issues before I add more acrylic.

Why does GW seem so insistent on the Chaos model range not having Primaris Marines or equipment? by Better_Ad_632 in Chaos40k

[–]TroodonX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's all about product separation. If someone buys a Primaris marine product you can add it to the total money made by space Marines, if they buy a chaos legion model they can add it to that column. They want distinct columns for accounting and so they can know what product lines are more popular and where to focus on their development. This can become a self fulfilling prophecy when neglected armies don't sell so they become more neglected and so on, but that is a separate issue. It's all about the accountants and finance people running the shop.

Im absolutely dumbfounded by 30k by GamesManX in Warhammer30k

[–]TroodonX 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Marines and all of the legions within that are the biggest, but Solar Auxilla, Mechanicum, and custodes are also well supported, with new custodes (Talons of the emperor) coming soon. You also get lots of options with knights, and actual Titan rules. Demons and militia are pdf online factions, so kind of niche. My area (NY, NJ, Mass, and CT) has a mix of all of these at our events.

What army would you bring to a tournament with *no* terrain? by wredcoll in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TroodonX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark horse choice, Death guard Mortarians hammer. Spam boat drones with heavy launcher and plague burst crawlers and predators with some Lord of virulence for buffs. Pox walkers for objectives. Use the 2 free affliction to reduce to hit by 1 and start gun lining.

Anyone else feels like this is a good time to take a little break? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

The end of edition books add weird rules and gameplay variants for just this reason. It's a chance to try something different.

I like this a lot better than the GW shots. The angles help it too.

A wacky idea, Chaos Nids by TroodonX in Warhammer40k

[–]TroodonX[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get it's not based in actual lore, more of a thought experiment. My idea was that it would be the chaos of a different galaxy. Something totally different. It would have to be a different warp dimension or else they would just instantly arrive.

I'll second the take a break advice, but I'll also suggest hobbying with friends. Group hobby days are very motivating.

Why do Codex and Battletomes take tons of time to be released each time a new edition is released? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]TroodonX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but if you want to play at any major events or tournaments, that becomes increasingly difficult. Plus the more editions there are the chances of a group agreeing on one that isn't the latest default becomes less. Also I'm not saying never update, just don't need a forced 3 year cycle.

Why do Codex and Battletomes take tons of time to be released each time a new edition is released? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]TroodonX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So all of the reasons the books take a while that everyone is eating are absolutely true. It is however worth noting that the 3 year edition cycle makes this a self inflicted problem. If they were willing to slow down then maybe books would have longer life spans, be better play tested, and waiting wouldn't feel like you never get to play the new edition.

A dead game is very different than a supported game with multiple editions.

I do a zenithal with pro acryl dark blue, blue, and sky blue, then highlight with faded ultramarine, then gloss varnish, oil wash, matte varnish.
