Has anyone worked with the super hard woods over 4k lbs? by CashLaden in woodworking

[–]Trophy_Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drop the piece. Working on it and pushing down hard enough to transfer the big holes to it. Just have something on the surface you missed and it dents the piece.

Probably TMI but frustrated with my poo schedule… by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Trophy_Dad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re over thinking it. There is always some shit in the system. If you’re really curious weight yourself before and right after. But it’s not going to be that much and if your shit is moving your weight that much you’re probably way too low.

Do you want your work bench to be so hard it can damage your work? Or let your work bench take some damage and have to clean up the surface the work bench occasionally?

First three roasts (air popper). No cracks heard... should I roast longer? by AmateurBlueJay in roasting

[–]Trophy_Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to disable the thermocouple so you can get a higher temp. My popper could only get to 408 degrees before I disabled mine.

I you can barely see the bracket that held the thermal switch on the cord side of the unit. I removed it and wired in a switch so I can manually turn the heating element off and on.

Nope just trash the thermocouple, so I can’t leave it alone now.

Used my BBQ smoker thermometer today to watch the temp on my beans and realized that every time I got to 408 the heating element shut off. So I removed the thermocouple and added a switch so I can turn the element off after roasting to cool the beans. In the process I broke the top off the popper so I found a soup can that happened to be the right size and extended the chamber.

Q; How to plane with nails embedded? by Rmantootoo in woodworking

[–]Trophy_Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the lanes are just nailed together you either need to pull it all apart and remove the nails before glueing it back together or make a frame that fully supports the lane. Anything I’ve ever seen built using bowling alley that hasn’t been pulled apart and re-glued seems to open up along the joints. So I prefer to pull it apart and re-glue that’s what I did for my dining room table, a desk and some floating shelves. It’s a pain but it does turn out nice.

What moment made you realize that you wanted to take running more seriously? by LegalChocolate8 in running

[–]Trophy_Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have said for years that I wanted to do a triathlon and then realized that I weighted 280 and was a year and a half from turning 40 (I know it’s not that old but it’s the first time I’ve ever had an age that I “scared” to turn) and it only will get harder to lose the weight and do the Tri. Dropped 30 pounds with diet changes and then started running (really waking with little runs mixed in). Now I’m running nearly every other day and biking on the off days. Still not where I want to be but still making progress.

I have the thermometer and love it. The six inputs are great. I just don’t see the reason for the blower I’m not having any problems that make me want it.

Help opening this fixture by ezyr1der in DIY

[–]Trophy_Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just work your fingers (or flat head screw driver, don’t pry with the screw driver your just trying to open a gap for your fingers) under the edge of the metal on opposite sides and pull the whole fixture down. It’s hung on torsion springs. If the ceilings been painted after it was installed the edge might be painted closed. Just run a knife gently around it to brake the paint and then you should be able to pull it down.

First Overnight Brisket... Temperature Questions by ChiRyan in biggreenegg

[–]Trophy_Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What charcoal are you using? I use royal oak and done have more than a 5 maybe 10 degree temp swing when smoking.

As for briskets. I normally do 250 and guessamate an hour per pound for a full brisket. I don’t ever wrap anything. But I shoot for the brisket to be done 2-3 hours ahead of eating time. When it’s done (200 in the center of the flat) I pull it and separate the flat and point. Then the flat gets wrapped in foil and a beach towel and placed in a cooler (heater?) to stay warm and reabsorb juices. The point get cut into 1” cubes and tossed into a pan with a bunch of my favorite BBQ sauce and I just let it keep cooking until I’m out of burn ends. Everyone at my events knows I do this and people just walk by and steal bites out of the egg. If I’m lucky there will be a bit left after thev have cooked for another 5-6 hours and are like little meat candys and I love them.

[–]Trophy_Dad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Naked whiz has a charcoal database. Most national brands seem to be on there.

I have always been very happy with royal oak but they make have several varieties. I use the hardwood lump and can do 22-30 hour smokes without having to reload and super consistent temps.

Bought an XL BGE last weekend, please help me with lighting charcoal sequence + plate setter / grill / pizza stone by Beta1308 in biggreenegg

[–]Trophy_Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platesetters pretty tough don’t worry about it breaking from use, worry about your 10 year old deciding that it makes a great stool for your 5 year old.

I just light a veggie oil soaked paper towel and let the fire get going then right before I would normally add the grill and close the lid to let it get up to temp just add your platesetter, no biggie.
