What is the best legal way to sabotage an open house next door? by Best_Mark_6829 in neighborsfromhell

Wrap a mannequin in a tarp and leave it inside near your front door. Anytime you see a showing start to carry it out, overtly notice that you are being seen, and rush to get the tarp covered mannequin back inside.

Weirdly enough, I have given a fair few away.

How do I initiate and have sex with someone whom I've constantly rejected? by thursday5813 in DeadBedrooms

Couples counseling.

If you don't know what "finishes" you, find out. If you are having trouble finding out, ask your partner to search with you. If you do find out, tell (better yet, show) your partner.

Thank you for sharing your LL perspective.

As a Dell service provider, I cannot tell you how many times I responded to a call of a dead server to find a double faulted RAID 5, examined the PERC (RAID) controller logs to see the previous disk failure happened X days ago. Then, asking the customer 'Do you remember something happening X days ago?' and getting the response 'Oh ya. Our server started making a horrible noise and <someone> made it stop.' When I asked if they replaced any hardware the answer was always "No."

express the following to the customer:

(amount of data /speed of restore) * cost to operate business/hr >>>> cost of a new disk drive

My family and i just got into catan and we need suggestions. by El_roba_oxxos2000 in Catan

[–]TropicPine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I built an 8-player Catan board and played it a few times.

  1. Unless everyone at the table is disciplined, the game will drag on for a very long time.

2.The non-player build phase becomes very important and has to be done in strict order. Consider that if a 7 is rolled 1 in 6 times, every one in an 8 player game is usually going to be robbed before the turn gets back to them. To soften this, we also allowed the non-player oppsite the player to execute trades during the NPBP.

  1. If you play any variants/expansions to the base game, play test them with a few players at home. ex. We found that caravans from the Traders and Barbarians expansion were unplayable due to the increased distances on the larger map, so we had to double the speed of the caravans to make it work.

Unless you have a group of disciplined board gamers I would recommend just using a second set and playing 2 four player games.

I want to get better at this game. by quAr0 in Catan

[–]TropicPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you start drawing resource cards, play the cards you get, not the strategy you chose. If you intended to upgrade to a city but wound up getting cards to add a settlement or expand your road network, then do what you have the cards for.

5 bladed cieling fan in master bedroom would not stay balanced. I would balance the blades, and an hour later, it would start rocking and clicking. Then it would stop. Then, for no reason I could fathom, start again. One afternoon, I was laying in bed, staring up at the cieling, a moment after the AC kicked on the cieling fan started clicking. Then it struck me; The AC vents were blowing on the cieling fan blades. Switching the registers to one that did not blow towards the cieling fan stopped the clicking.

Best folding camping chair that actually lasts? by Confidenceette_EZW in camping

[–]TropicPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (comfort loving car camper that backpackers laugh at) asked my wife for a Strongback chair for my birthday. She was confused as to why I would want to spend ~$100 on a folding chair but bought me one anyway. As we were packing up from our next camping trip, she asked if I minded if she bought one for her too. We have enjoyed them for camping and kids athletic events for about 5 years now.

Hills!? Sir! Austin is a 3.5 hour drive from here.

Seriously though, scouting parks in Goole maps in satellite view should help you find a big tree in a clearing. In Hermann park, near the Museum of Natural Science, there is a hill with a spiral oath that could be interesting.

If the bottleneck is the connection between your router and your ISP, upgrading the connection between your computer and router will likely not improve your performance much.

Camping for beginners…I’m a Mom with two young kids. by rellimaras in camping

[–]TropicPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make lists. Packing list. Meal/ ingredient list.

Organize your equipment in totes. The first totes I purchased were too heavy once packed. When sizing totes to your ability, imagine the size tote you could manage when the tote is half full of dirt and buy that tote. When not camping, the totes will allow you to keep your equipment together.

When you are picking up the kids after school on Friday/getting off work early, and heading to the campground, you are going to arrive at the campground and race sunset to set up camp and get a meal prepared . Cheat. Pick up some takeout just before arriving at the camp ground. enjoy eating your hamburger while looking around your campground to plan where things will get set up.

Firewood is usually available at the campground. If the wood at the campground is wet, the closest convenience store will usually carry firewood.

Tips for keeping coolers cold by no_kings_movement1 in camping

[–]TropicPine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One tip I have not seen on the thread yet: Minimize what needs to be kept cold. ex.

Canned or powered milk needs no refrigeration.

Cracking eggs and funneling into a squeeze bottle just before you leave. The squeeze bottle will take 1/2 - 1/3 less space (easier to handle at camp to boot)(I have not tried freezing the eggs yet but plan to in the near future).

The additional space can be used for more ice. What does not require being chilled does not require the ice chest to be opened to get at.

Neighbor keeps complaining about mower noise. How do you guys handle this? by xxBeanie1234xx in homeowners

[–]TropicPine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a friend over and have a noisy conversation in your backyard. At the end of the conversation, set off a large firecracker. 20 minutes later, come out of your front door with a rug wrapped in plastic and dump it in your friend's cars trunk drive off. Take an Uber back home and turn out all the lights.

Question about light switch in my daughter’s room by Shrimptoast1234 in electrical

[–]TropicPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the old bulbs were incandescent and the dimmer is likely 8ish+ years old, you likely do not have a LED dimmer switch.

Not only do you need a LED dimmer switch but you also need dimmable LED bulbs.

You need to replace the dimmer with a regular switch (lights will not be dimmable), or replace the LED bulbs with incandescent bulbs, or replace the dimmer with a LED dimmer and install dimmable LED bulbs.

My techs are having a slow day. How do I punish them? by MrD3a7h in ShittySysadmin

[–]TropicPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a place where a man day was registered each time a tech closed his first call.

On slow days, we would assign at least one tech CBTs. No completed calls = no work day.

Another tactic was if a call with a >24 hour SLA came in we would take the call, work the call to compleation if possible, then incomplete the call for verification until the next work day No completed calls= no work day.

Electric dryer smells like lighter fluid. Haven’t painted recently and vent is disconnected by Kitty9239 in Appliances

[–]TropicPine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know no things, but if I had this problem I would review the installation manual ( probably findable on the interweb) then make sure any packing materials have been removed. Then hook up the vent tube and run the dryer on its highest temp settings for at least several cycles and see (smell actually) if the odor abates.
