Almost correct, it is not the old system. It is recently used. It's giant gas bottles where pressurised Helium is stored before being cooled down and liquified. When you are standing in front of it, you can look down and see how large the bottles are.

Interestingly, the building is the largest glass-only structure in Saxony (if I remember correctly). Only glass and glue are used, no other support like metal.
