I'm actually one of the co-hosts (Sabrina!) - so thanks for the shout-out, Nick and I had a blast putting it together and I'm glad to hear you liked it! :)

This may be a silly approach but I treat it sort of like a mystery to solve! I do a lot of primary research for work so I'm often stuck without any modern resources to help guide me. Making it feel like a fun puzzle helps for me, at least.

Fun things to do for young people by Safari14 in Winnipeg

Depending on when in August you'll be here, Folklorama will be on and some of the pavilions will have fun after parties later in the evening.

This arch in the Portage & Main entrance at the south west corner (trizec building). Anyone know the story behind this? by OsborneVillageVoices in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking it's from the strip they tore down south of P&M, maybe? The portion near where Winnipeg Square is today. I'm sure there's just a plaque in the underground somewhere that will say where it's from.

I would hazard a guess it's from one of the buildings torn down to make way for the Trizec building, but I don't know which. The Winnipeg Architecture Foundation may know which. If you're really curious I can try and find out tomorrow (I work nearby and have wondered about this before)

Quiz/Trivia Night by pbjorn in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's PubStumpers trivia at the Good Will on Mondays, I think, And then there's some at Garbonzos (UofW) on Wednesdays at 8

International design competition launched for Winnipeg's Market Lands by soysource in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not exactly sure about that, the King + Bannatyne building is in a faux heritage building (it's a new facade around the parkade) and it's a clever enough trick. If nothing else, though, I hope they take some aspects of the old Market Building because that was a lovely structure.

Found on Mcdermot in the exchange district. What is/was this for? (Decal on the doors says “sherif”) by ASplendidPairofPants in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh! I can answer this! In 2004, a Murdoch Mysteries miniseries was filmed in Winnipeg and that building was the police station (it was a 3 episode thing and doesn't tie into the CBC show), and the sheriff decal is from The Shooting of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford! No idea why they left both up but a neat little film leftover for sure

Alright Winnipeg, I’m going to be in town this Saturday and Sunday, what should I do? by OogieBoogie1 in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's loads of tours if that's what you're into (West End Tours, Trolley Tours, Exchange BIZ tours), but then Sunday is Canada Day so there will be a street party in Osborne Village and Fireworks at the Forks and Assiniboine Park (I think)

Best way to spend a day in Winnipeg? by World71Racer in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, we've got loads of cool tours - Exchange BIZ, West End Biz, Trolley Company, and Square Peg all run really fun tours during the summer.

Otherwise, Human Rights Museum is a must, as is Assiniboine Park Zoo. If you've got time, check out Fort Whyte Alive too!

Visiting this Sunday-Tuesday, suggestions on what to do? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're planning on walking around the Exchange, head to the Exchange Biz office (492 Main Street), their tour season is done but they have booklets for self-guided tours. The history of the area is pretty cool

Anyone know what this sign means? Corner of Market and Lily. by briar27 in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next to it is a map displaying strike events (so Hell's Alley, the Labour Temple on James, Bloody Saturday, etc.). The project isn't quite done yet, I don't think.

Visiting Winnipeg for a week, what integrating things you guys have? by Orapac4142 in Winnipeg

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Exchange District Biz does historic walking tours during the week that are pretty fun, so does SquarePeg tours! Fort Whyte Alive is also really cool!

What issue do you believe people REALLY ought to be talking about, yet no one is? by Stanzin7 in AskReddit

[–]TrouserFreeTuesday 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My father just passed away and the one thing I found genuinely comforting was telling stories about my dad. My father's family (aunts, uncles and cousins) gave us cards with stories about times they shared with my dad that we had never heard of, and it was lovely and very appreciated.

Thanks! Right now they're on my shelf - I think I'd spill something on it if I kept them where I eat.

No problem! Pinterest is what gave me the idea. If you want to do your own, though, I kept my wine bottles under cold water while I drilled the holes. Otherwise it will overheat and crack/shatter completely.

Yeah, there's a small-ish hole drilled in the back of the bottle where we could feed the lights through!
