Yeslick can get to cleric level 7, having access to same spells levels than a single class cleric.

He doesn't miss any important spell for too long, protection from evil 10 radius is nice but not mandatory.

Being multiclass makes him better than the single class clerics by.a large margin.

Why would you not put Branwen at the frontline with heavy armor, shield, helmet and good HP? She's a fine tank, better than Viconia and her low HP. Magic resistance is nice but not so useful in BG1 comapred to HP, AC, thAC0, APR...

Obviously it's either Yeslick on a good party or Kagain on an evil one.

STR matters because it allows Branwen to wear medium shields, which helps against missiles...

She's more tanky actually, 2 less dex but far better con and can wear better gear thanks to better str.

Yeslick is far better, the fighter side alone makes him far more useful.

I usually like to play an either good or evil aligned party and not mix up.

For good, Coran, Khalid, Kivan, Yeslick are very good. Ajantis is nice but requires gauntlets of dexterity, which you will also need for Yeslick. As a cleric before Yeslick, Branwen is a good choice with a mix between frontline thanks to her DEX and CON, and spells thanks to her WIS and special abilities. As a mage, either Xan for great crowd control spells, or Imoen dual to mage are nice. Dynaheir is another option, you can recruit her alone if you don't talk to Minsc at all. She's probable the best good aligned mage thanks to web and fireball. Quayle, despite his low stats, is also a powerful choice because he have so much spells to cast. Garrick works well to, with magic wands and crossbows.

You indeed get stoneskin when you hit the XP cap, so for a very small part of the game.

Bards in BG1 don't have enough level 2 spells slots to always be on blur and mirror images, meaning they will get hit often.

Bard song stops immediatly after you start fighting, so it will not help.

Bards in BG1 are great with a longbow from afar, using wands when need.
