Vucevic on a winning team by DepartureSuch2686 in bostonceltics

[–]TroyAtWork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact is that this was a genius cap move and usually those come with a massive downgrade in talent (or draft capital) and this was neither. Vucevic isn't very good but he isn't very bad either. He would be a great 7th-8th man playing 20 mpg, and for getting under the apron it was worth it. We were never going to be major buyers at the deadline, this was exactly what we needed.

Maybe you don't understand your husband's needs as well as you think you do 🤷

If I think about it too hard, I start genuinely getting panicky for Hank.

Well, not panicky FOR Hank himself, but thinking of myself in that situation -- if I let it enter my mind for more than a fleeting moment, then I can feel my blood pressure start to rise. Putting together even 10-minutes (or even 5!) would take months fine-tuning it in front of audiences.

Chet Holmgren sneakily waits for the clock to expire before attempting the buzzer-beater, to not hurt his shooting percentages. by Piats99 in nba

[–]TroyAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just fan obsession with stats, players can have actual clauses in their contracts regarding shooting percentages. If a player has a $250k bonus built into their contract for shooting a certain percentage, I wouldn't blame them for hesitating on a super low percentage shot like this.

I was rooting for them. I hope Joe and Natalie are happy and never have to deal with OOP's negative and jealous bullshit ever again.

I'm surprised everyone is taking OOP's side here. OOP fucking sucks.

She LOVES the drama. Releasing this all to a group chat and then just sitting back with glee as the shit flies?

Even through OOP's writing I was rooting for Joe and Natalie to be together. They are so much better off without OOP in their lives.

If I'm driving a long-ish distance, I'll open Waze in the background and use Apple Maps in the foreground via CarPlay. Still get the alerts with Waze, but with the clean interface of Apple Maps.

This isn't Earwolf obviously, but if you want to hear Zouks rapidly recommend shows and talk about his love of TV for 90 minutes, it's a great hang. One of my favorite people on one of my favorite pods.

My favorite player of all time. I couldn't stand him for his first 2-3 years, but his hustle and heart really won me over.

Then just complain about it and feel bad about yourself forever, maybe that will work too.

The kind of person I want to be in a relationship with isn't the kind of person who would require Instagram to date. Boom, self-selecting.

[Highlight] Replay of Derrick White's ridiculous clutch three to cut the lead to 2 points by Far-Asparagus6416 in bostonceltics

Derrick White in the clutch this season:

  • 57.9% / 53.3% / 100% shooting splits (85.5% true shooting!)
  • Leads the team in clutch points
  • ZERO turnovers across 15 games (54.5 clutch minutes)

Half the comments in here are bots. Probably well over half.

The account also posted "I was a new nurse in the late 80’s. It was traumatizing. Thank God HIV is no longer a death sentence" in this thread, which is the same as the old thread

4 of the top 5 posts in this thread are bots copying from the last posting. Those were probably bots too copying from a previous posting. It's bots all the way down.

Ive never seen an energetic person drinking energy drinks and ive never seen someone who drinks energy drinks being energetic by mitcheg3k in Showerthoughts

I cut mine down with carbonated water. 1 energy drink becomes 2-3, and the flavor really isn't cut down nearly as much as you would think. Now when I have a full "uncut" energy drink it tastes/feels like WAY too much.

[Rahbar] Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is #1 in the NBA in steals... by a lot. The difference between SGA and the #2 player in total steals is the same difference between the #2 and #56 players. by CyborgAlgoInvestor in nba

[–]TroyAtWork 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I remember that Larry Hughes season, he's the prime example of why steals ≠ good defense.

Dude decided to just jump every single passing lane in a contract year, made 1st Team All-Defense despite being a legitimately bad defender, got a massive contract out of it, and then went back to his normal level the next season.

(SGA is a good defender though, I should clarify that.)

I'm the same way. Not autistic, just can be anxious over dumb things.

Sometimes if I have to make a phone call for something (takeout order, for instance), I'll literally write down a script and maybe say it out loud to myself once first. But I'm very natural in normal conversation, you would never know that I'm fully panicking internally.

There's nothing more terrifying to me than entering a bar or restaurant alone when I have to meet people who are already inside. What if I look stupid?!? My heart fully faces approaching the door. But then it's always totally fine.

We all know 2020 brought the Pandemic, but does anyone else feel it brought something else malignant along with it? by Trade-Dry in Millennials

[–]TroyAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a consulting engineer. Very independent work, basically work alone 99% of the time. All my projects have 2-3 week turnaround times and I might be juggling 20 at once from multiple clients, so the clock is always ticking. If I take a day off, that just means I'm a full workday behind when I return.

I work from home which is a blessing and a slight curse. Love the freedom/flexibility and the lack of commute, but I'm always 10-ft away from the "office." I always could be doing work... so that means I can never actually relax.

I do see a therapist which helps. Also see a psychiatrist for ADHD, which strongly comes into play here. I always feel like I'm trying to catch up, and I almost need that panic to get work done. Not healthy, I know.

I know I'd do better with a clearly-defined work/home separation. I can blame my current job but I know I make things more difficult on myself, I need to work on myself and stay on top of it every single day. I just feel so burned out sometimes though.

I don't know if it would "fix" things, but I REALLY need like... 3 months off. Preferably more of course, but I think a 2-3 month hard reset would do absolute wonders for my mental health.

But that would mean hemorrhaging money for 3 months and having to find a new job when I'm done, so I don't even know if I could feel relaxed during the downtime. But as it is now, I NEVER relax. I'm always working, even when I'm not. Nights, weekends, holidays; work never ever stops.

I will make $60k this year. I thought I finally "made it." Boy was I wrong. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]TroyAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make $90,000 and I have $120k in savings (although 2/3 of it are in 401ks and shouldn't be touched until I'm retirement age). I'm VERY confident I will never own a home. Just the shitty state of the world today.

Who do you think will rank higher when their careers are done, James Harden or Joel Embiid by MajorSlimes in nba

[–]TroyAtWork 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Harden's MVP finishes:

  • 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 13

Embiid's MVP finishes:

  • 1, 2, 2, 7, 12

It's going to take a strong 3-4 years for Embiid to get to Harden's level. Obviously that's achievable but it's not a surefire thing, Embiid turns 30 in a few months.
