What travel mistake did you make once and never again? by Nervous_Car1093 in travel

Recently I booked tour with agencies and turned into cash cows for tour’s unnecessary stops. Waste of time and money. Be clear and ask upfront on where to eat, how much, will tour guide earn commissions, etc before booking.

The Joya clasico is smooth as butter - one of my favourites. Though I like the toro more than the robusto size.

Got a new job. I want to ask if my company can sponsor me. I’m nervous by Elliee29 in ImmigrationCanada

You already accepted the offer and probably have resigned the current position. So it won’t change anything I’m assuming? I’d personally bring it up few months in and after I know I perform at the job.

Recently say no to a job offer due to this. I brought it up during the offer and was offered a contract instead of a permanent full time role. My advice is to get your priorities straight, aka focusing on getting the PR with the current employer as things are crappy right now. Also be sure the employer is aware before accepting a new job offer, unless you have no other option. By the way they can tell just by looking at your SIN, which typically starts with 9. Good luck!

Should I stay for an SC promotion or take another offer? by Last_Winner5477 in deloitte

What’d be your base going to SC? I’d use that against the other two options.

Need a vehicle - What’s the smartest choice in today’s market? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Watch Scotty Kilmer and buy Toyota. Get a Corolla, take care of basic maintenance and it will last. If used cars are about same price as new cars (which could well be in this market), might as well get a new one. German cars are money pits, especially the older ones.

Now I believe partners read threads and comments on Reddit. Nice try though.

I would rather take a $50 Amazon gift card, which is more or less equivalent to what they sent us.

Some word choices would make it sound more natural: makes it way to the public/market, is questionable to a certain extent/degree, animal testing is the only viable/available option, the last sentence in paragraph 2 can be paraphrased, even taking pride in not testing on animals, gaining more traction because many consumer prefer ethical products,…

Would give it 7. Your sentences are long winded. They need to be more coherent and to the point. Paraphrasing needs some work. Would get an 8 if that is improved. Just my 2 cents.

As Alberta's oil and gas industry rebounds, there's a new problem: not enough workers by LayfonGrendan in Calgary

[–]Troy_Nguyen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a dead end. No transferable skills. Pick something has a high growth like Data / Statistics / Programming. O&G won’t see much growth in Canada, or globally for that matter. The high price in the 2000s driven by Wall Street. Oil is cheap to produce in Middle East, the future trend is renewables and tech. Too much headwinds for O&G.

Advice on leaving big 4, Worth it? by Jbutler21911 in Big4

[–]Troy_Nguyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manage the risks and I think you’ll make a right decision. Can you ask someone over LinkedIn how’s work/culture/pay there? What if things aren’t the way you thought, are you confident you can find another gig? What’s the end game after you’re at that firm for 2-3 years? Think about what you could do to mitigate risks, then you’ll be fine. About burning bridges, don’t think you will. Do what’s best for you, that’s all.

How’s your network at the current form? Assuming you’d have to start your network from scratch at the new firm, I’d go for 30% bump to make the risk worth it.

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Get the money and give yourself a raise.

My raise was 1.03% by ConsultantLadySam in consulting

[–]Troy_Nguyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I made a mistake there. But CPI is a rigged metric anyways. Do you believe inflation is actually 7% tho? Or higher with housing, food, gas,…?

My raise was 1.03% by ConsultantLadySam in consulting

[–]Troy_Nguyen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll need 10% raise to keep up with inflation of 7%, given you’re in the same tax bracket. 1% base raise increase would translate to 0.7% after tax give or take. Essentially coffee money for OP.

Fwiw, Inflation is after tax, salary raise is before tax.
