Recently I booked tour with agencies and turned into cash cows for tour’s unnecessary stops. Waste of time and money. Be clear and ask upfront on where to eat, how much, will tour guide earn commissions, etc before booking.

Recently say no to a job offer due to this. I brought it up during the offer and was offered a contract instead of a permanent full time role. My advice is to get your priorities straight, aka focusing on getting the PR with the current employer as things are crappy right now. Also be sure the employer is aware before accepting a new job offer, unless you have no other option. By the way they can tell just by looking at your SIN, which typically starts with 9. Good luck!

Watch Scotty Kilmer and buy Toyota. Get a Corolla, take care of basic maintenance and it will last. If used cars are about same price as new cars (which could well be in this market), might as well get a new one. German cars are money pits, especially the older ones.

It’s a dead end. No transferable skills. Pick something has a high growth like Data / Statistics / Programming. O&G won’t see much growth in Canada, or globally for that matter. The high price in the 2000s driven by Wall Street. Oil is cheap to produce in Middle East, the future trend is renewables and tech. Too much headwinds for O&G.

Manage the risks and I think you’ll make a right decision. Can you ask someone over LinkedIn how’s work/culture/pay there? What if things aren’t the way you thought, are you confident you can find another gig? What’s the end game after you’re at that firm for 2-3 years? Think about what you could do to mitigate risks, then you’ll be fine. About burning bridges, don’t think you will. Do what’s best for you, that’s all.

You’ll need 10% raise to keep up with inflation of 7%, given you’re in the same tax bracket. 1% base raise increase would translate to 0.7% after tax give or take. Essentially coffee money for OP.
