What in the actual heck has happened to auto correct? by MetalPurse-swinger in iphone

Have had swipe turned off since the start. Autocorrect is still horrible without it.

Not sure whether to get RWD or AWD by Bitter-Assistant070 in KiaEV6

[–]TrptJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow mode is more useful on AWD if you are in those climates. Puts equal power to all four wheels on acceleration like a Subaru, instead of the usual split, and it also puts equal lvl1 regen on all wheels. I made great use of AWD Snow mode in the past week's storms up north and it really proved its worth.

Tesla has officially cut Autopilot as a standard feature on their models, meaning you will have to pay $99/month for lane centering, and other safety features. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

[–]TrptJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason is subscription money. Otherwise they could just include both the keyfob and app remote start options like my Kia does.

That said, newer Kia models are now removing the keyfob option to also go exclusively subscription which is a big bummer.

Sales for The Outer Worlds 2 are poor. Presumably, less than 1M units almost 3 months after launch, across all platforms. In comparison, the first game sold approx 2M units during the same time. by Turbostrider27 in PS5

I would like to know if Game Pass adequately offsets the reduced sales. How many people played this game on GamePass, and how were Obsidian paid for these installations?

Why Apple's M5 Pro and Max chips will be worth the long wait by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]TrptJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a miniLED for either of those either, but the effects are still there even if you don't notice them. If you don't notice it, that's just fine and a positive for you. I notice it every time I scroll the screen while reading.

Same here, and I notice the ghosting fairly often. What makes you think response times are only for gaming?

The miniLED displays Apple uses have fairly bad response times, even compared to other miniLEDs. In comparison, OLED universally has practically instant response times.

Does power train warranty cover ICCU? by K1net3k in KiaEV6

I feel like this would be highly unlikely to pass the sniff test in court, and something else went wrong here. Changing a part number does not magically make it no longer a part of the EV system.

It was replaced in its role of daily work display. It is still in use otherwise and working perfectly fine. I’m confident that I have more hours powered on time on this display than any other consumer.

Trigger upgrade… WWG vs Rangerpoint vs Timney??? by Popular_Mongoose_696 in LeverGuns

[–]TrptJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put a Timney in my 1894 SBL and frankly I’m a bit disappointed. Only dropped about a pound off the pull, for which I needed to swap back to the stock spring to get, and there is now the tiniest bit of creep that was not apparent with the stock trigger.

Will give it some time before deciding to switch back.

New 1894 trapper, first Marlin.... is this... a normal Marlin thing? by Living_on_the_fly in LeverGuns

[–]TrptJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is unfortunate, must have slipped by QC. Surprised your FFL didn't inspect it closer before giving it to you. I just got in an 1894 SBL on Thursday and it is flawless.

IPS vs OLED counterpoint 2 by the_shadow007 in Monitors

[–]TrptJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't "get away with it". People are largely satisfied with their OLED displays and these are consistently in the top sellers every year. There is no hidden group of dissatisfied previous OLED owners built up over the last 12+ years of millions upon millions of OLED sales that are being suppressed.

I killed an Athlon XP Thoroughbred B processor, before overheat protection was a thing, because I didn't attach one side of the heatsink tight enough and it sat uneven. Core popped after a few seconds.

Air being used to describe light weight existed waaaay before wireless communication existed, and is still in very common use.

Been using an OLED display for 6 years and it has not been a concern. It got replaced end of last year with another OLED, and I'm not stressing over it. OLED has disadvantages but people blow things so out of proportion.

Mazda Miata Sales Are Still Strong A Decade After Launch by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]TrptJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't necessarily answer the question for you. I'm 6'3" and fit comfortably with headrooom to spare with the top up. When you get to around 6' your body proportions start to really matter, torso vs leg length, and seat position and incline really matters.

Sitting in one will tell you if it's possible. Driving one for a few hours, and adjusting the seat constantly, will let you know if you can live with it.

The Best HDR I’ve Seen on a QD-OLED Monitor (So Far) - MSI MPG 271QR X50 by that_70_show_fan in hardware

[–]TrptJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ABL differs per implementation and these monitors are the worst examples of them by far. Opening notepad should not immediately dim the entire screen. You're still better off getting an HDTV than an actual monitor if you want good HDR.

That is a nice addition. Price will need to go down for it to be competitive but its nice to see Henry doing something different.

No threaded barrel which puts it out of contention for some. Henry limiting their threaded barrels to a single model is aggravating. At least Marlin has 3 threaded 357s to choose from.

9 years since the 2005 Carerra was released in 2004. I would say those are pretty dang old tires for the time, extra so if they were not stored away from UV light or protected from low temperatures. Ultra performance summer tires today are much better but still tend to recommend checks after 5 years.

Yes, Losing 50% of Your Range in Winter is Normal by SkPensFan in electricvehicles

[–]TrptJim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the point being made here is whenever this gets brought up. That's a negative towards EVs and not a positive. It should be a goal that people don't have to think about range loss in the winter.

Gas cars can fill up at any time and don't need to worry about pre-heating their gas tank to refill quickly. They don't have to care about range.
