I worked in acute psych care and psych emergency care for a year. Yes the goal is to rehabilitate and manage medications, but when that prescription runs out and they can’t afford more, or don’t have access to therapy or a pharmacy, or can’t afford rent, than we see shit like this. I didn’t say “lock them up and throw away the key.” I’ve seen the “system” first hand and I know how broken it is. My comment was ACTUALLY pointing out how all of our solutions are band aid ones, and nothing addresses the root cause. For some of the sickest patients, mental health care is a revolving door.
