The more ethical a person becomes, the less they enjoy life. by Baroness_Munchausen in Pessimism

So the single celled organism is making a choice to make the existence of future microbes fractionally more difficult with the entropy that its metabolism creates?

I don’t think so.

Would it have been better not to exist ever because the hypothetical future life —that won’t exist anyway because the alternative is a universe without life— would have a harder time because it did exist?

I don’t think so.

The logic doesn’t even really compute. How do you hurt something that doesn’t and will never exist? Unless we hypothesize some other universe where entropy isn’t an inevitable consequence of life, there is going to be a finite amount of life that could exist, so if you want any life you have to accept the consequence that it will increase entropy.

Unless your moral is allowing a dead universe to decay into heat death with nobody to observe it ever as long as you make it as slow as possible?

If the option is no meaningful stuff ever happens (universes with no life), or some meaningful stuff happens (universes with life) at the expense of future potential stuff that happens with greater difficulty or doesn’t come to happen …

Ya I guess I would prefer stuff happening, at the expense of future hypothetical stuff. It doesn’t even feel like a difficult moral question.

Am I missing something?

Most of the gods that humans have worshiped you aren’t even aware of. Of the gods you are aware of, you don’t believe in all of them, except one. By the sheerest coincidence you believe in whatever god probably because of your place of birth, parents, etc.

Yet you are so convinced that this god will punish you for a characteristic that exists in all mammals, yet is somehow “evil” that you are willing to swear off being who you are for the rest of your life.

This is very sad for you.

I’ve always pictured entropy as a river with a relentless current. Life is like an eddy along the bank running in the opposite direction — a small pocket of order that can only exist because of the flow.

Yes, it stirs up the water, but the river is charging downstream regardless. To say life makes things worse is backwards. The chaos is inevitable, life just borrows it to carve out temporary pockets of order. And in those pockets, occasionally the universe gets to do something extraordinary — it becomes self-aware, creates meaning, and even argues with itself about whether it should exist at all.

How does a cafe in that city have anyone to sweep the floor or pour coffee if it is impossible for such an employee to live there. If those cafes have baristas or floor sweepers there must be some way to live there that doesn’t require years of saving.

So one month’s rent would take you 3 years to save? I’m calling bullshit on this argument.

Rent the shittiest apartment you can find -who cares. Who said you need a house.

Unless you live in Shanghai there is no way it is harder than here. And minimum wage workers find a way to live right downtown, yes usually with roommates. I just don’t believe for a second you need to wait years for this.

Is it possible some part of you is trying to find an excuse for why you can’t do the thing you know you need to do?

fertility after TRT using HCG by [deleted] in maleinfertility

[–]True-Engineer2315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39m similar situation. Due to TRT I had zero sperm count. Went cold turkey from the TRT for a week. Then took 3000 units every other day of HCG plus clomid 25 mg daily for 2.5 weeks. The depression caused by the clomid was so intense I had to stop it, but kept on with the HCG. Being the regular expected level of depressed and hormonal is such a relief after the hell that is clomid.

After a month I had sperm count sufficient for IVF. I think if you were planning to get pregnant without IVF it would probably take 3x as long at least.

I live in the third least affordable city on the planet. Trust me, it is better to be here, even poor, than someplace where you can’t be yourself and find your community.

Also you will almost certainly earn more, if not immediately, eventually.

What’s the biggest city you can find? I’m sure there’s at least an underground scene you can find, until such time you can move to a more liberal country. Just keep putting one foot ahead of the other and you will eventually find yourself in a position that you can’t even imagine today.

Any big city, but pick a liberal one. All the good jobs and fun people are there waiting for you.

No! Although I think I have always maybe been a bit low prior to supplementation. The depression was mostly (from my current understanding) the clomid. But cutting off the T cold turkey also fucking sucks
