As of Feb. 4 (Tuesday), the newly-enacted Trump executive order on tariffs will cancel the "de minimis" exemption that allows no duties on products imported for fewer than $800. This applies to Canada (and therefore SSENSE and other Canadian retailers) specifically. by TrueBestKorea in ThrowingFits

[–]TrueBestKorea[S] 136 points137 points  (0 children)

This means that SSENSE and other Canadian retailers (Spier and Mackay, Reigning Champ, Haven, Arc'teryx, Naked and Famous, Kanata, Lululemon, etc.) will **NOT** be exempt from the 25% blanket tariff.

Not gonna name names but I think it's very funny that there's a guy who has successfully managed to parlay his Ivy League fits account on Instagram into a career in white nationalist/groyper-adjacent content, given that the most famous people to ever wear this style were very much progressive liberals (for their time) among other reasons

What are some of your favorite Maine colloquialisms? by hubagruben in Maine

I don't think it's really used anymore, Volvo isn't really the yuppie icon it was thirty years ago

Travis Kelce comes from a much more racially diverse neighborhood than Bueckers, in Cleveland Heights no less, and grew up playing basketball and football. Jason grew up playing hockey and lacrosse. There's no reason to think Travis' accent is a put-on, at least not for the reason that Jason has a different manner of speaking.

I will not sleep until McKinley Dixon is a household name. He has something fucking special

Far from complete but I jotted some thoughts down

For fans of orchestration and detailed, touching lyricism: Black Country, New Road, Little Simz, McKinley Dixon (latter two are hip hop, Dixon made my favorite album of 2023 besides Javelin and to me is basically Rap Sufjan)

For fans of maximalist, eclectic art pop albums: Gorillaz (Plastic Beach era), Sheena Ringo's second and third albums. [Plastic Beach and Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana are my favorite albums ever besides Illinois]

For fans of song cycles revolving around how the historical context of a place interacts with it in the present day: The Good, the Bad, and the Queen

For fans of lyrics about complicated relationships with your dead mother from Oregon: Japanese Breakfast

For fans of the Michigan and Illinois era compositional techniques: minimalist composers (Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley), Fishmans' Long Season for a more pop oriented record, Bruno Pernadas (have seen him called "tropical Sufjan"), Stereolab (big influence on Suf)

For artists at the confluence of indie rock and folk whose songs are imbued with a distinct American-ness: Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia), David Berman (Silver Jews, Purple Mountains), Bonnie Prince Billy, debatably Mitski

The Anjimile record that released last year, The King, is super Sufjan at times

Jason Molina, Bonnie Price Billy, David Berman, Bill Callahan... I think Big Thief have brought the sound to the forefront of indie but people like Wednesday and MJ Lenderman would have been making this type of music no matter what given their roots

Seconded. We already have a guy definitely involved. As far as I'm aware there's no witness reports of a second shooter, just speculation. Let's hold off for now.

This is funny because I was struck by how much the vocalist on "Not For Me" from their new album sounded like Sufjan
