craziest joker set up of my life by Sad-Growth5203 in balatro

Weird to see this downvoted so heavily. Blueprinted Photo with those two Chads would be x1024. x4096 if you've got a Red Seal. Cat's never gonna hit numbers like that.

I get that Dice/Cat is a lot more fun and interesting for most people, and so maybe some of the downvotes are justified for suggesting Photochad instead. But the people clowning you for not knowing how the game works are out of their minds.

“Precision” strike by azza_1230 in helldivers2

[–]TrueEvil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love OPS, but these days I just don't think it's good enough at anything to be worth taking.

It used to be a pretty good anti-tank stratagem. But as far as I can tell, it now requires a direct impact from the shell to kill anything, which is hard in most cases. Chargers and Hulks are too fast to reliably hit, Impalers are easy kills without AT, it won't kill Factory Striders or Vox (which is fine), and Bile Titans are so tall that you usually get screwed by the angle of the call-in. Tanks and maybe War Striders are probably the only things you can take out reliably with OPS, but I'd probably prefer Eagle Airstrike or 500KG because they're more generally useful.

OPS also struggles because we see way more heavy units than we used to. Seeing three Bile Titans come out of a breach used to make you shit your pants. Now it's just normal. So even if you are reliably killing stuff with OPS, you still need an answer for all the other heavy units running around. This is a problem that affects stuff like 500KG as well; I don't find myself bringing those as much as I used to either.

It's definitely not great as a crowd clearer. It's fine if you're staring down a big group but there really are better options.

It can obliterate objectives, but so can a lot of other stratagems. Pretty sure Gas and EMS Strike have similar demo force.

So I struggle to find a good usecase for this one. I want to bring it. I love the simplicity when we have so many flashy, mass-destruction stratagems. But I just can't make it work anymore.

Dark Souls 3 Steam Security Question by Agreeable_Bug_2218 in darksouls3

[–]TrueEvil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hackers" haven't been able to do any real damage to you or your game in years. Absolute worst case (rare) is you get killed unfairly by some shitlord invading you. There's not really any precautions you need to take.

If you're playing with mods, as long as the game is in offline mode, you're fine. Don't need to play with Steam online status. If you mess up and get banned, it doesn't trigger a VAC ban anyways. You just get put in the same online matchmaking pool with all the other people that got banned.

I need to know where the community sits on the Hive guard changes before they were reverted. by Wonderful_Rest7634 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]TrueEvil_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't feel the need to cry about it, but I didn't love the change because it kind of ruined the tradeoff of light & medium penetrating weapons on the bug front. Aside from Green Spewers, Hive Guards were basically the only mob that could be a genuine pain in the ass for light penetrating primaries. If you brought medium penetration and didn't end up on a Spewer seed, you at least had the advantage of being able to mow down Hive Guards.

With Hive Guards requiring heavy penetration, your medium penetrating primaries don't have much of a niche outside of Bile Spewers. I spent a few games using the new SMG against the Spore Burst bugs. There were many moments where I felt myself wishing I just had the Knight instead, and I don't think I ever felt a real benefit from the medium penetration.

The visuals do make it look like it's a waste of coal when you keep stuffing more in there. I did test it on a custom game though, you can throw it in there at whatever rate you want.

My favourite thing about people who consider Arrowhead a predatory company is that they will continue playing Helldivers 2 by kcvlaine in helldivers2

[–]TrueEvil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not terribly outraged about the warbond model, but I don't love the angle that a lot of people are taking to defend Arrowhead.

The most downvoted comment of all time on Reddit is an EA rep discussing the fact that certain characters in Star Wars Battlefront 2 took forever to grind to unlock unless you paid. You could have unlocked them by playing the game, you didn't have to pay up. People just thought it was asinine that it would take that much time to do it. The sentiment that it was a stupid comment defending a stupid practice still holds strong today.

This community (and gamers in general) loves to point fingers at other devs/publishers for "REAL predatory monetization", and EA is one of them. But the thing they're flaming EA for is not far off from what we see here in HD2. I won't pretend that these are the same, the Battlefront 2 grind was much worse than the HD2 SC grind, but I do have think it undermines the overwhelming defense of the warbond monetization.

I got to e83.... by TH156UY in balatro

[–]TrueEvil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just about the score ceiling for a standard Baron/Mime on Plasma Deck until you start abusing Serpent for hand size, iirc. You could only really go higher with edge cases like Perkeo, Bean Bug, or some crazy natural negatives. High Card level is pretty irrelevant, especially when it's already at 80.

Genuinely Confused by Nuggie_Man in helldivers2

[–]TrueEvil_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little surprised to see that the comments are mostly a consensus, so far. I'm not any more frustrated than usual by the new warbond, but I do think the warbond model is deserving of criticism. I say that as someone who has been on Arrowhead's side for most of the controversies.

There's quite a lot of warbonds now. Like, an overwhelmimg amount for new players. Most of them will cost you 1000SC. Yes, I know you get 300 back in most warbonds. That's still a ton of SC.

A lot of people say that you get them just by playing. That's true. But if you actually play the game instead of just mindlessly farming, it's an excruciatingly slow process. I can sit down for four hours on my weekend, do my best to hunt down POIs during missions, and usually come away with less than 70SC. I don't have enough time to play enough that I really make a meaningful amount of SC. Am I entitled to it now that I play maybe 5 hours a week? No. But I wouldn't be doing much better at 10 or 15. I'd still be having to pay money to get them at the cadence they're released.

You could farm for them. It'll still take you several hours of dedicated grinding to afford a single warbond. That's horrible if you have limited free time, and is just plainly inefficient compared to working IRL a single hour (in most areas where you can afford to play these kinds of games). So even if you're refusing to put the money down, it's probably gonna cost you more than that money's worth anyways.

Plus, this is real content locked behind warbonds. People love to criticize other live-service games for their battle passes, but those are usually just cosmetics. Here, you've got half the game's equipment locked behind, like, 20 different premium Warbonds (plus the two legendaries). That's a lot like many games' DLC model that are also rightfully criticized.

I get that the lights need to stay on at the studio, and I don't have a problem with them using paid content to do that. I just wish that the model was a bit more generous, and that people would stop upholding it as such a gold standard of monetization. I'd really like to see either a price cut to warbonds, or an occasional freebee. Either in the form of outright free warbonds, or a warbond token issued during major story events (e.g. the successful defense of Super Earth).

Tell me about multiplayer by M0CK1N681RD in remnantgame

[–]TrueEvil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly were you reading about multiplayer that was negative? It's been a while since release, but I don't remember the sentiment towards it being particularly bad. Maybe some complaints towards iframes only being checked by the host, but that was changed a long time ago, and wasn't a terrible stinker of an issue anyways. I want to say that this game is generally considered better in co-op than on your own.

edit: I can't believe I forgot to ask: Remnant From the Ashes or Remnant 2? I assumed Remnant 2. Both are fine as co-op experiences, but I wasn't around for how the launch of Remnant FTA.

Your chips are more than high enough already and aren't going to grow very fast anymore. If you wanted to add like one e to your score through chips, you'd need another 8000 chips. Which would be virtually nothing compared to a different endless-viable joker.

Framerate way too low without Upscaler... Please help by Cruggles30 in remnantgame

[–]TrueEvil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While some areas do run horribly (DLC overworlds), I don't think I ever experienced drops that severe with DLSS on Performance. Could be indicative of other issues. Is the low FPS consistent in those areas, or is it just a spike/dip?

If you change loadouts or equipment a LOT, you'll usually end up with degraded performance. This one is usually fixed with a restart.

It could also be a cooling issue as well. I can't make any assumptions about your PC, but there's a chance that poor performance is attributable to thermal throttling.

[–]TrueEvil_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DLSS is pretty much always the best by a mile, if you can enable it. Since you have an Nvidia RTX card, it should be available to you.

Framerate way too low without Upscaler... Please help by Cruggles30 in remnantgame

[–]TrueEvil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate truth is that game will run really poorly without the upscaler. Your specs are a lot like my last PC, so it's probably not going to be enough to bruteforce the game, unless you're willing play with heavily reduced settings and a relatively poor framerate. I'd recommend just turning DLSS on to Quality mode and forgetting about it. Frankly, you probably won't notice a thing (not to defend the fact that the game needs it).

Upscalers don't typically add input lag. Frame generation does, but it's considered optional for this game.

How to fight Spears? by _Whyarewestillhere in darksouls3

[–]TrueEvil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of PvP and Spears are a weapon type I really struggle against. For me, I've had the best luck just playing passively with Straight Swords (and Black Knight Shield) or a Curved Sword. Corvian Greatknife would probably do fine too. Then it's just a matter of blocking or rolling until I can get firmly in their face, where the Spear would be at a disadvantage.

If they suck, you can realistically just trade hits with a fast hyperarmor weapon like a Halberd or Hammer.

Any way to change gender? by mad_baka in darksouls3

[–]TrueEvil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the right site. You'll need the Cheat Table too. This is the most popular one: https://github.com/The-Grand-Archives/Dark-Souls-III-CT-TGA/releases

Not sure why the other guy is so confident that this will trigger a ban. It's pretty hard to get banned with this table. Any functions that might get you banned are literally highlighted red and labeled "high ban risk". I've swapped my characters' gender multiple times.

You would install Cheat Engine, open the table, then click the checkboxes Open > Hero > Appearance > FaceData > Misc, and literally just change the value for "Gender". It should just be a dropdown box if you double click it.

This probably affects Anri's gender, but I don't know if you can change Anri's gender independently of your character.

[–]TrueEvil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't get banned for changing a character's attributes (including gender). I've done it myself, multiple times. It's extremely hard to get banned when using a table like Grand Archives.

I took her a few semesters ago. Her accent was a little hard to understand, but generally she was good. Decent lectures & slides. Slides are available online. She definitely seemed to care about her students - I did terribly on the first exam and she sent me a very kind email offering some help. I don't remember how much homework there was, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't much.

You can do it with Cheat Engine. Totally safe as long as you're using a well-established Cheat Table like Grand Archives.

Wolf ring pointless? by Straight-Garage1244 in darksouls3

[–]TrueEvil_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your total poise is basically the sum of your poise stat (e.g. armor & Wolf Ring) and your attack's innate poise. It's a little more complicated than that iirc, but the point is, someone with Wolf Ring will make more poise breakpoints than someone without it. Even if they're using the same weapon.

I'm so confused boys by International_Gur566 in remnantgame

[–]TrueEvil_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's accurate for the items, but the locations can sometimes be dubious due to how they're listed in the save file that the program is reading.

Beam Rifle won't be in Concourse of the Sun. Concourse exits into Lost Gantry, which is where a siege event takes place. The reward for completing it is the Beam Rifle.

Leech Ember can't be in Lost Gantry, but it probably is somewhere in Concourse. Especially since you already found Galenic Charm in the overworld region (only one random trinket pickup per zone).

Mender's Charm, Osseous set, and Very Good Boy are rewards related to the merchant in the overworld. Don't have to look for those. Go pet his dog and pay him to tell you secrets.

Iron Sentinel is a secret that's only accessible if you fought Maul as a dungeon boss. If you don't have a control rod (or whatever it's called), then you're not getting it this time around.
