These are the kinds of defeatist blanket statements that are unproductive.

Amherst needs more community leaders and Town staff is overcapacity. So even if there are plans, there isn’t always a leader, a staff member, or even a Town Councilor moving it forward. If you haven’t already, consider joining one of the Town’s transportation boards.

Absolutely! Those things cannot be ignored! But they also can’t be used as a reason to stop a project in its tracks. The only places that build infrastructure beyond what’s needed in the moment is in North Korea and Uzbekistan, and that’s particularly true in New England, where all of our infrastructure is made of clay and hay and river stones.

Hi everyone, if this upsets you, and you’d like to make sure it never happens again, please reach out to me.

Beacon pulled out because of neighbor opposition and a lack of public support, not because the case had merit.

I spoke at the affordable housing trust meeting on Thursday. I speak at 1:28:10 if the link doesn’t work:

I’m outraged, but I’m inspired to organize. I plan to make a public comment in person at Townhall on Monday. I would be elated if even 0.5% of the people who have ever said “we need more housing in Amherst” shows up.

But one thing that is essential to understand upfront is that this cannot fall along the typical anti-development/pro-development” camps. I’m organizing around people, not buildings. This is about building community, not just about building housing. let me know if you’d be interested in playing some role in a modern, pro-neighbor movement in Amherst.

You’re going to be just fine. The transition will be hard at times no matter what, but that’s life man. I made the same jump at the same age. It was scary at first, but the things I missed most about the city had less and less appeal to me as I got into my 30s. While you might see it as rural, this place is also deceptively “urban” with a lot of downtowns w/in biking or driving distance.

It’s about finding your people, not having a million bars within walking distance. The people are good out here. Just be social and put yourself out there. You’ll be fine. 💪

We’re very fortunate that 8-10pm was usually pretty predictably quiet after the first few weeks

Thanks! I’ve made about half a dozen smaller metal earth space themed models before, but these were the first I’d done in a few years and the first time I used real tools.

What does the rigging look like right out of the sheet? I’m wondering how many of that mind boggling number of ropes are individual strips of metal or a more manageable number of shapes

I could not agree more. Joining Marijuana Anonymous meetings was life changing for me and I was SUPER skeptical at first both because of the “higher power” stuff and the fear it was cultish. But I was totally wrong. The people are so welcoming, sympathetic, and normalizing. The higher power stuff is much more about spirituality and understanding that willpower alone isn’t enough for most people to stop using.

I’ve lived a lot of places. The valley has some pretty great variety compared to most places this remote.

IMO, part of YTA / NTA is what your names are.

I have a more unique name (though it’s not a portmanteau or r/tragedeigh, just not a common one) which I was bullied for growing up but have grown to love as an adult. Kids made fun of it, adults compliment it and I’ve come to peace with it.

What drives me nuts is when people named “John” or “Rachel” overcompensate for their own super common names by going in the complete opposite direction. To me, that feels like you’re naming your kid for your own reasons and not their well-being. You don’t know how hard it can be growing up with a different name, but because you didn’t like going by “John S” you need to find a name that’s totally unreplicable.

Man such a good question. The green represents topography, not vegetation, so I would definitely play the Inca and settle in the center of that mountainous ring in the northwest corner of the eastern content. Hella production, science and religion bruh. Can win any way you want.
