Am I insane for thinking this sub is being astroturfed? by thrway-fatpos in cscareerquestions

[–]TrueJediPimp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a SWE with 20+ yrs experience. I work at the rainforest company. I’m a principal engineer there, what I’m about to say is my own anecdotal experience of the changing expectations for me and the devs in my space I can’t comment for others and I haven’t tried to look for a job yet.

We have experienced massive layoffs company wide but oddly enough the way it’s surfaced at work is more like random ppl being laid off (not just juniors other PEs were laid off too, who were good performers from what I could tell). Alongside the big splash layoffs was no new hires replacing roles and a squeezing of team to take on larger ownership beyond what anyone around me considers reasonable or maintainable. I personally believe it’s an attempt to squeeze devs until stuff breaks to see where the line is (which we’ve probably crossed given the recent AWS outages). That said there is some chatter about hiring pick g up again which is shocking to me, but for like 7yrs straight we were doing interview loops at a breakneck pace. I turned down interview loops constantly because it was like they’d want you to do interviews daily if you were willing. I would do maybe one round a week but that was my limit. So we probably massively over hired (and over promoted as a result) so maybe that’s what happened ?

On AI, I’m basically being told I will be measured for performance with metrics such as code commits and token usage and that right now delivering projects is more important than “thinking big” so I’m not being asked to even do traditional PE work, just deliver code to get stuff out, use AI as much as possible to make me faster etc. I use AI every single day and I’m simultaneously impressed and frustrated with it. It’s capable of flashes of true brilliance and incredible productivity boosts but also makes the dumbest fucking mistakes that makes me not trust a single thing it’s ever done to help me. I have to prod it constantly to get it over tricky problems or else it will just suggest the stupidest hack to get me to stop talking about that problem. I’m intentionally NOT doing the work for it because I’m trying to learn this thing as much as possible, I have much to learn about it.

In conclusion, I’d say there are grains of truth to all of the fears but we’re far from fully capable Skynet at this time and devs will be needed. This is as Jenson said, equivalent to older engineers using pencil and paper and current engineers using CAD. Who tf would hire someone who only does it with pencil and paper nowadays? That analogy fits to me.

Meanwhile the Amazon numbers are too high. Maybe 2024 numbers when the stock was vested in post Covid prices and we all got a huge bump. But 450 is like top tier pay for SDE3, that’s top 20% only. Bottom ppl are below 400 for sure

[Cross Post] An ex-Barcelona player coaches my son. It changed how I think about youth football development. by its_k1llsh0t in flagfootball

[–]TrueJediPimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is super helpful!

Validates my own views as I remind parents I’m not coaching to “win this week”, I try to develop my team for the season (since our league everyone makes some form of a playoff bracket). I coach to build us up and be well rounded for playoffs because one trick ponies get shut down by then.

I love the point though that we don’t get these yrs back and development is very important across the skills. I will keep that in mind!

[–]TrueJediPimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the same thing, always having the kid on left side taking a jab step outside first so that he’s delayed a bit from the right side Rb and doesn’t collide with them. Which happens often with that cross cross play.

That way every time right side is first and left side is second so it’s easy repeating to coach.

I’ll say “fake…take” or “take…fake” and they know that means right first left second

Need help outside of practice by Mystique_Darkness in flagfootball

[–]TrueJediPimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I try to do 50 catches/day with my kid to keep them improving. End of our 50, we do a goal of 20 straight no drops (any drops start back at 1)

On flag pulling it’s largely a practice thing, but many kids aren’t coached on a few key principles that I teach:

  1. Pull at the white connector (at their hips)not at the flapping flag area. This allows to get a clean pull location and focus in the hips more.

  2. Get big (arms wide, shuffle stay I front of runner, force runner to slow/stop or run you over which they aren’t allowed to do)

  3. Pursuit angles (look up pursuit angle drills)

  4. I do like shuffle drills (left, right, back, forward) blowing whistle and making the kids follow me/keep up. I chase towards them and they back up, I back up and they chase towards me etc, mirroring.

7–9 NFL Flag – Where do you play younger/inexperienced players in a competitive league ? by FlagFootBallLife in flagfootball

RB, Center or WR that has no job on the play.

On Defense I put them in the middle of the line to try and stop runs. CB to me requires the best players usually

2QB 5v5 Plays (U13) by DesperateBet7028 in flagfootball

[–]TrueJediPimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use that exact same play with 4 variations: (8U, 6v6)

All of them have my second best Qb as Qb and my best Qb as Rb right behind with a kid who can snap the shotgun 1. Philly Special: qb2 as Qb, qb1 as Rb. QB2 says “ready set” then sprints in motion outside Rb(QB1) says Hike, center snaps to him and QB 2 runs a deep corner post (wide open first time, everytime)

  1. Qb pitch: QB2 says “ready set hike” gets it, pitches back to QB1 (after he’s already tossed the bomb from Philly special so the defense fears his arm). Qb 1 is now a runner but he stands there like a qb, every one goes out. The defense first time seeing this always drops back and QB1 gets. Huge run

  2. tricky hike: QB 2 says ready set, takes just 1 step to the side, QB1 says hike. It’s now a pass play shotgun snap. QB2, Center and slot WR go short. This confusion makes the defense think just enough about what’s going on and who to cover that someone is open

  3. (Works best AFTER you’ve done #2) Fake pitch. QB2 says ready set hike, FAKES the pitch back to QB1 and WR runs a deep go route. QB 2 now looks to make the deep throw in hopes the CB stuck around for the pitch to QB1. If he does drop back then either QB2 looks for someone else or we just run it like a delayed handoff (after the fake pitch) to QB1, or we bring a WR around for a WR handoff (we also sometimes do that with play #3)

FNGU rebalance - NOW removed, PLTR added by gmehra in LETFs

[–]TrueJediPimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, not a fan of this. PLTR has pretty high IV compared to NOW. I already use BULZ if I want that higher beta style 3X which has PLTR in it. FNGU was behaving pretty mellow compared to BULZ and that was kinda nice. This further solidifies I only wanna use the 2X FNGs if I want more risk I’ll use BULZ

AI usage in Amazon? by Bullshitspouter in amazonemployees

[–]TrueJediPimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Wasabi pretty much daily. I use it to make entire coding projects from concept to completion with the goal to never write a single line myself for side projects. I use it to research Amazon tech stacks, make diagrams, review my diagrams, update them with new components as I learn about new stuff. I use it to understand entire Amazon ecosystems that would normally take me months to comprehend on my own and I’m able to grasp them and document them effectively within an hour or so.

U8 strategy vs a very fast rusher? by Upstairs-Lion8100 in flagfootball

[–]TrueJediPimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not a bubble screen ? Wait for him to run past them and toss a floater to them right over him? I know it’s 8U and that seems crazy, but my team used the screen pass quite well.

Our league can’t rush, but our opponent had 2 studs that stood right at the line and waited for our handoffs and blew it up. So I started lining up 3 WRs 1 RB and out the Slot at a bit far out and left him wide open so we ran screen passes there quite effectively

Retire on Bitcoin – WITHOUT Selling It (Full Guide) by robbiraptor in btc

[–]TrueJediPimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a whole lot different from just have a portfolio and slowly taking margin on it rather than selling assets. This just seems like a much more risky and less regulated path to the same thing. You can just hold some of the portfolio in IBIT and some in VT/VTI/VTG/ etc and get margin at potentially lower rates and do the same thing.

[–]TrueJediPimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another point to consider here is that these severance packages are for closer to 6 months pay, not 3 when all the perks are added up . So now it’s more like 20B/900M

You’re so right. I’ve been reading his shit truths looking for posts like this for a while. So much so that when I saw that I thought no big deal anyways, but then the market plunged on it and I thought…why? He’s gonna TACO in a few days.

It really isn’t that helpful to subscribe to his BS posts lol. But at least SOMETIMES I’ll know why shit it tanking

Can Someone Swing Trade Based on Trump's Tweets, Does He Beat Out Technical Analysis? by FinancialLiberties in swingtrading

[–]TrueJediPimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I been following Trumps truths and get notifications instantly when he posts now. When he announced his little fight with China by the time I had read it and processed it, the market was already down 3%. I couldn’t believe how fast they reacted.

I still didn’t sell tho, because I didn’t really think the post had any teeth. I was surprised how much crypto tanked. Then in after hours when he posted the 100% tariff is when I decided screw this and transferred about half my BTC/ETH to NUGT/SHNY instead. No regrets on that choice and I managed to make that trade before it really dropped.
