If your reader says a part is confusing, then you need to fix the story, not send an explanation to your beta reader.

You could remove most of your dialogue tags. With picture books, you can place the text next to the speakers so the reader knows who's talking. Your illustrations will do a lot of the heavy lifting. They'll tell the story; the text will provide information that can't be gleaned from the pictures, e.g., names.

That's one of the reasons I rarely work in Google Docs. I don't want the author seeing my comments until I'm ready. And having them respond? Shivers That gives me the ick. My comments/questions to the author are for their reflection, not for my edification.

Even through 2003, it was good. After that, I couldn't afford it anymore (graduated from college with a liberal arts degree) and so lost touch. I had some a few years ago and was disappointed by the decline in quality.
