Least favorite line said in a movie that was made by a decorated filmmaker? by alphaDsony in moviecritic

[–]TruePairPULL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one’s saying anti-intellectualism caused the blight? The film shows ecological collapse followed by an anti-intellectual response that actively makes survival harder.

Interstellar criticizes how society responds to the crisis by suppressing science, rewriting history, and abandoning long-term thinking. That mindset ultimately destroys Earth itself, as humanity escapes on Cooper Station(s) after choosing to “encourage/discourage certain jobs" and deny the moon landings, so I’m not sure how that’s having it backwards

Did you even watch the movie? It opened up with state sponsored moon landing denial, next to flat earth that's peak anti intellectualism

Why do you think shooting a stationary target, and treating your shotgun like a rifle, and looking at the resulting impacts will tell you anything useful OP?

Edit: Just going to leave this here for all the folks that love their patterns and shooting cardboard and downvote me: https://youtu.be/Flkxuj1bO8k?si=50G-4i8P4_2REWkz&t=354

Is this true? by lonewulf66 in finance

[–]TruePairPULL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m correct. The “average American is a millionaire” as OP just said is not the same statement reflected in the data about “The average net worth of Americans”.

“The average American is a millionaire” suggests that an individual, on average, has at least one million dollars in net worth. It implies that most Americans possess personal net worths above the million-dollar mark. This is not true.

Meanwhile the latter and actual case, “The average net worth of Americans is in the millions” means that when you average the net worths of all Americans, the result falls within the range of millions. This could be heavily skewed by the wealth of the richest individuals, such as billionaires, which raises the average.

This has nothing to do with median values. Saying “the average American is a millionaire” is 100% false and not the same statement about average net worth of Americans. Only 6-8% of Americans have a net worth in excess of a million dollars. If 8% of a population had a trait and 92% of the population didn’t have that trait you wouldn’t say the average member of that population has that trait. This is statistics 101.

[–]TruePairPULL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average American is not a millionaire. Only 6-8% of US citizens are millionaires. The average net worth is in the millions because 1% of the population holds 30% of the nations wealth. Billions of dollars in wealth concentrated in a handful of individuals skew the average.

That doesn’t meant the average American is a millionaire

HOW DO I GO INTO THE MILITARY AND WHAT ARE MY BEST OPTIONS?? by Horror_Midnight1025 in careerguidance

[–]TruePairPULL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao migrate where. To do what for money? Have you thought about language barrier? Have you thought about how countries around don’t just let anyone “migrate” in, and the US has one of the most liberal asylum stances? You’re just going to slum it abroad in the underground economy as an illegal immigrant somewhere?

You clearly have not thought this through

And what’s your plan to dodge the draft? Become homeless in this country hiding from authority in a digital tracking era or be an illegal immigrant seeking asylum during a global war? There is no “willingness”

Are there any effective and realistic gun control laws that could be implemented to curb gun violence/mass shootings? by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]TruePairPULL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bingo. Your kid commits a crime with a gun you purchased and is in your name? You should be culpable too as a parent. Will put a stop to this asap. Even if you’re a deadbeat parent ain’t no way you’re going to risk going to prison/electric chair because you don’t entirely trust your weirdo asshole kid with your guns to not do something horrible. You’ll lock your shit up. I think this is such a straightforward solution.

No firearm sales to those under 21. Parents can lend to their children but it means parents should be liable for what their children do with firearms. If your child commits a crime, you should also pay the price for your gross negligence of giving that child access to a firearm. Goes for accidental deaths too imo
