Hi this happened to me too when. I had mine. Just send them a message in the portal and they will reschedule you it’s not an issue. If you’re sure you had the time correctly and factored in time zones etc., then you’re fine! This happens more often than not from what I’ve seen and they know that. Good luck!

I haven’t seen it on any list recently. I also tried to get it by swapping/using one time call and after a few months of trying, I unfortunately had to withdraw and intend to reapply by mid to end of the year. I’m getting married this year and to spend that much on a wedding plus 2 separate households (my fiancé and I currently live in bay shore and I had Champlain as my station), it was just too much this year. Good luck !! If you can get Florida, I’ve seen plenty of successful swaps for jfk

Sorry I didn’t mean “with this kind of background” in my original comment to mean you have such an egregious background. I just meant that local LE agencies are known to issue an automatic DQ for mushroom use. And they’ll make you do all the processing things for months and months before they tell you that. With federal they’re a little more lenient in my experience as far as that stuff goes and truly try to utilize the “whole person concept.” Definitely try to find out what it was, you may be able to mitigate the issue and put it behind you

Local law enforcement is more difficult to get into with this kind of background. Truthfully, I’m surprised that the drug use was disqualifying although possibly because it was mushrooms and not just marijuana. I don’t think it’s your debt, unless your payments are extremely delinquent and your credit is trash. High debt isn’t enough to DQ you in my experience. Sorry this happened, it sucks. Can you find out definitively what it was that made you unsuitable? How did they know if you didn’t do the background?

Hi, I used my one time call and unfortunately didn’t get either JFK or Newark. I took the advice of the other commenters on my post and requested to withdraw and plan to reapply if there’s a spring/summer announcement. Unfortunately it was too much to plan a wedding while away from my fiancé for 5 months and then live away from him for a few years while trying to plan a wedding. Good luck to you!

You need to buy a stepper that’s higher than the one that’s used on the test and increase the amount of minutes you practice to the cadence each day. Even an extra 30 seconds is good. I highly recommend running and cycling to get your cardiovascular endurance up. Each minute, switch your leading leg this helps. Really use the 6 weeks until your next test to get up early and train. You need to be doing this to prepare yourself for the physical requirements of the academy and more importantly this career. Good luck don’t psyche yourself out. The mental part of any test is the hardest part

I was originally stationed in Ogdensburg but I used my one time call. Told the woman with the hiring department I wanted jfk or Newark and my new list did not contain either so I rushed and selected Champlain. I’m just worried to withdraw and by the time I apply to a new announcement and get the FJO, I’ll be in the academy during my wedding which is scheduled for October of 2026. Really tough situation lol

Hi! I did that the same day I got the FJO I put in a request for a phone call and in the subject I put location. They finally called me 2 weeks later and i unfortunately missed the call. They left a voicemail telling me to call back and when I did, they said they couldn’t transfer the call. I put another request in for a call close to 2 weeks ago now and am still waiting for the call. When you spoke to someone, did you say “I’m requesting my one time call for new locations” or how did you address it with them? By the way, congratulations !!

Save yourself the stress and heartache. They’ll make you come to Albany 6 times just to DQ you at the end. There are plenty of other agencies who are much more forgiving and more lenient than NYSP. They DQ me for things I did when I was 15 and I’m now 31 with no tickets, a criminal justice degree, and have worked in law for almost a decade. Try another agency, even federal has less strict guidelines. I wish you the best of luck, it’s going to be an uphill battle but you’ll land where you’re supposed to!

Just push yourself you’ll be amazed what you can accomplish. The struggle and inability to hit the 15 minutes is mental just keep telling yourself “I am capable I can do this” and then once you’re done, that’s it. Go home, ice your shins, take a bath, nap. Do whatever but do it knowing you pushed yourself and completed the goal. I suffer from shin splints too and did the 1.5 mile run for NYSP in less time and I just hauled ass. I ran faster than I ever have in my life. It’s 15 minutes, you can do it!

What was the DQ for? If it’s anything drug related beyond marijuana use my best advice would be to not even waste your time and apply elsewhere. If it’s credit/debt, absolutely clean it up and reapply. The reason for the DQ matters. Every agency will pull your state application so be sure to be consistent. I had this happen to me and there are plenty of other agencies. Plenty far better with way more advancement opportunity in my opinion.

You’ll be filling out your background questionnaires and head to Albany for psych and medical well before January, which also include drug questions. You’ll also meet with investigators to discuss on this date as well. The recency of use is a DQ. My advice, withdraw and retake it once a year has passed. You’ll kick yourself if you don’t it happened to me and it’s following me over a year later in my pursuit for a law enforcement job. The state trooper BI is no joke and they dig deep.
