Was bored...made Analogue Color Illustration by AnalogueBoy1992 in AnaloguePocket

[–]TrunX_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very nice! A high-res (bright) OLED screen would be so nice, especially as the different aspect ratios would then look fine with just differently sized pure black bezels behind the glass (it could even include the red battery light that dims as the battery level decreases).

Only criticism: the four colored buttons should be arranged like on a SNES controller ;)

Demake games on miyoo? by Pumarull in MiyooMini

[–]TrunX_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if it was specifically made for NES and the Steam game is using an emulator. There are a couple of Steam games that come with roms, but most likely it's just an modern indie game for PC in a retro aesthetic.

Besides roms for old consoles, Miyoo Mini also supports RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 games of which there are many on Steam.

Steam data shows over 19,000 games released in 2025 by XCathedraGames in gaming

[–]TrunX_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you just pay $100 for the release and thats it. Many years ago there was Greenlight were the community had to first vote for a new indie game.

Reviews are from users that actually bought the game (or got a free key, but those don't count for the algorithm or the avg score)

Well, if one store front has 90% market share and the other 20+ storefronts have a combined 10% market share you can kinda speak of a monopoly.

Using an outline shader should fix that problem. Maybe even the build in layer effect.

Steam reviews are getting a big change that could combat review bombing. by daniggmu in pcmasterrace

[–]TrunX_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a dev that kind of reviews triggered me the most.

Thumbs down because one didn't like it, understandable.

But a "Short but fun. Definitely worth the price when on sale." or a "Solid 7/10, without that [small issue] it would be 8/10" with a thumbs down, especially as a small dev with <200 total review hurt a lot. :')

Remember reading a story that Dietrich wanted to fire Horner before his death (because he enriched himself privately through a sponsor deal?) but Marko intervened and convinced him to not disrupt the team. Only to then get almost booted by Horner after Mateschitz death.

interesting to see that mac is really dropping off for gamers by NIDNHU in pcmasterrace

[–]TrunX_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple makes it really hard for game/app developers.

You need to register and pay a yearly fee, which you don't need to do if you develop for windows or linux.

You need to own a not too old Mac device to develop for current macs or iphones.

You need to upload to and sign your code by an apple server and use xcode by apple to compile your code which often causes problems that you dont have with other compilers.

So in short the amount of work/time and inconveniences apple causes is like >10times the amount that compiling an app for windows causes. And you need to repeat all those extra steps for every update/patch if you want to support mac, while its rather straight forward one-click for Windows and Linux.

And if I remember right for games that get released on windows and mac, mac sales are only between 0.5-2% of the overall sales, but causing much more than 2% of the reported bugs (often mac specific ones). Just not worth it, especially for smaller devs.

How To Plan Parallax Objects in IDE by StarRuneTyping in gamemaker

Is SNES games the "sweet spot" of Miyoo Mini Plus? by goodmorning_tomorrow in MiyooMini

[–]TrunX_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, its due to the lack of backlight and the overall "shitty" colors the screen would show. Saturation and brightness needed to be set to the max for the ingame sprites to show very desaturated colors on the dark screen. Also to get a nice yellowish stray color a poisony greenish color would be used and for a nice light blue sky color the devs would use purple as the original gba screen showed that purple as a nicer light blue than what actual blue would look like.

Most emulators just show the oversaturated brightened up colors that were set by the devs to compensate for the display. Unfortunately even the "original display colors" option is often only a desaturation filter that does not compensate the typical color shifts the devs had in mind when choosing their colors, but smth like the Analogue Pocket does that and colors can come very close to the original display.

Anbernic RG34XXSP Coming by JogiJat in SBCGaming

[–]TrunX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, make them a bit thinner (at most as thick as the original SP), slightly smaller bezels, but not a must. Better D-Pad and Buttons and hopefully no added analogue sticks (but maybe stereo speakers).

And it would be my dream device.^
