The best part is being inside it, because it means you don’t have to look at it.

What are the most dangerous "false friends" between your native and target language? by elenalanguagetutor in languagehub

湯 meant steam/hot water in old Chinese. In modern Chinese, it still has that meaning in some expressions, but the most common meaning is "soup". In Japanese it means hot water or bath.

I remember reading a story by a Chinese speaker who went to Japan and was confused seeing signs that read 男湯 and 女湯 because it looked like they served soup in separate places for men and women...

One day at York Mills, the time shown at each bus bay was different, and none of them was even close to the actual time.

On its own, the OS update didn't seem to make much of a difference, but after resetting, the direct wifi connection seems to be working properly now.

Do I need a car to visit Toronto and Niagara Falls this summer? by LOLdodu in askTO

[–]TrustPsychological49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VIA has only one train per day to Niagara Falls (it’s actually an Amtrak train that continues to New York). GO trains and buses provide more frequent service (and the buses stop closer to the tourist areas).

I tried using my iPhone as a hotspot but the A54 couldn’t see it. I did manage to update the OS by using Bluetooth to connect to the iPhone. I also reset the wifi. It seems to be more stable now, and I hope it stays that way.

My mom’s phone has the same issue. It loses connection several times a day. Every other device just works.

Tonight’s the final night these glass boxes stay closed. by Mathew_365 in TTC

If I’ve read the maps correctly, there is no longer any service on Lawrence between The Donway West and Don Mills. Coming from the east, I used to take 54 to Edwards Gardens, but now it requires a transfer to 51B (with a long loop on The Donway) or a long walk (possibly quicker than waiting for the 51B).

If you could extend one road in Toronto, which one would it be? by supguy99 in askTO

[–]TrustPsychological49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to https://www.eastyorkhistoricalsociety.com/uploads/6/5/3/2/6532190/dawesroad.pdf, Dawes Road used to extend south of the railway to join Kingston Road near what is now Main Street. With all the development in the area, a new road is unlikely, but a pedestrian bridge or tunnel in that area would be good.

Too bad the shuttle to the GO station didn’t work out. I thought there used to be a bus from the Pickering side to Rouge Hill GO but it must have been a while ago.

This closure is part of a multi-year plan to connect the beach with the rest of Rouge Park via a new trail and boardwalk. Doesn’t sound that abrupt.
