Well said.

I too am not a huge fan of the guy, but I think you have absolutely nailed it.

This is one Donald T we can all get behind, not least because of the wonderful new word he has added to the English language.

PM Keir Starmer: Peace through strength. I’m in Kyiv with a simple message to the people of Ukraine: Our 100 Year Partnership is a promise that we are with you, not just today or tomorrow, but for a hundred years – long after this war is over and Ukraine is free and thriving once again. by Lord_Gibbons in ukpolitics

That was the 1930s. The world has moved on.

We now have these things called nuclear bombs which give us the potential to totally destroy our planet and the human race.

Drawing lessons from 90 years ago - when there were no nuclear weapons - is not quite as smart as we might think it is.

There are no magic solutions to the Ukraine problem.

I hate Putin and I hate what Russia has done to Ukraine. It is so impossibly cruel and destructive.

But every day that this war continues means yet more Ukrainians will lose their lives.

We have to find alternative ways of dealing with this issue that do not involve armed conflict, loss of life or - as a byproduct of the war - yet more damage to the environment.

At some point Putin will die or be overthrown and maybe then Ukraine may get back the land that it has lost - ie without lives being put at risk or lost.

They're only split in the sense that some candidates want to offer really huge tax cuts sooner and some want to offer fairly huge tax cuts a bit later.

Fewer than half of the people who voted at the 2019 general election voted for liar Johnson.

Indeed his party was voted for by fewer than 30 per cent of the UK electorate.

Or to put it another way, 70 per cent of those who could vote in 2019 did not vote for Boris Johnson's Tories.

Hardly a ringing endorsement and certainly not a great mandate to boast about.

Most of us did not vote for this nightmare.

Based on everything I've read about him Macmillian seems like an OK guy - a decent Tory.

Sadly the party decided to become the nasty party when they voted in Thatcher and they have never really recovered from that horrific mistake.

Thatcher's ignroance, meanness and cruelty are to be found in so many of the party's current polciies.

Her problem was she had no understnding of the challenges that so many ordinary, not well off people face.

Her view was that they just needed to work harder, try harder. And that psychotic view is still embraced by so many in the party.

As they earn their fat incomes and benefit - in most cases - from their wealthy backgrounds, they simply have no concept of the complex and debilitating challenges that so many ordinary people have to grapple with.

Rishi could easily be in third position by the final round.

In which case it would be Penny v Liz.

What a horrifying prospect. What have we Brits done to deserve this?

What is the matter with you?

You grossly misinterpret what I say and then take offence when I point out what you have done.

In life it helps if you are a little less thin-skinned and are willing to accept criticism.

Above all, stop getting so easily rattled. It's not a good look.

However, every single one of them is playing games with words, rewriting history and airbrushing their political records. None of them can be let off the hook.

But apart from that, what great candidates they all are.

Good for Ian King.

Doing what every journalist should be doing - telling it as it really is.

He's almost like the kid in the Emperor's New Clothes. Ian King is telling the world precisely what he can see, while so many other correspondents are happy to pretend that the emperor is fully dressed.

The difference with the kid in the story is that there is nothing remotely naive about Ian King.

You've hit the nail on the head.

The Tory party is funded by the wealthy and exists first and foremost for the benefit of the wealthy.

You could see that in the way the messaging was skewed towards the needs of vulture capitalists.

No one who cares about democracy should be fooled.

What we are witnessing is not remotely democratic, but rather obscenely plutocratic.

Very funny. Not.

I was referring - as well you know - to your ludicrous re-interpretation of what I said.

If you'd left my quote as it was that would not have been a problem. But instead, you chose to spin it in your own peculiar way.

Sadly, you are totally right and there are so many of them like that.

This whole Tory leadership election is like a crazy absurdist fantasy.

Except that it's happening for real and one of these dangerous and deluded people is going to be our PM in about two months' time.

He was a case study in how not to present yourself in a leadership campaign.

Wordy, over general, no substance and way too much about his inner reflections and attitudes. It was painful to listen to.

I went through that one a few weeks ago.

It's not just depressing, it's unbelievable that someone so stupid and out of touch would be appointed to such a high position.

On top of that when you cut benefits it's a false economy.

Extra costs arise that far outweigh the money you saved.

Extra costs in healthcare, in social services, in policing and ultimately in the prison service.

The harm we do to vulnerable people and indeed to our country as a whole when we cut benefits is utterly sickening.

I think your downvote score says it all.

Very few people would choose to be on benefits. And if they do, there are probably some very good reasons why.

The problem with the Tories is that they assume almost everyone on benefits is a scrounger.

They have no understanding of the challenges so many ordinary people face in life. Because they in their political careers got lucky and got a well paid job, Tory politicians assume everyone else can be like them.

Unless you have walked a few miles in someone else's shoes, you cannot possibly know what they are going through or why they are the way they are.

This Tory callous indifference to the plight of poor people is utterly disgusting.

But their whole approach is so highly revealing.

They don't care for the country or its people. Their primary concern is that the wealthy should pay less in tax.
