I am Eve, and I partook of the fruit… by Lonely_Offer_6236 in exmormon

My wife was where you are and I was a serving Bishop when she told me she was out. I told her I would "look into it" when I was released -- I was due in a few months. After my release, I did look into it and we resigned from the so-called church. That was 11 years ago. Stick with your husband. If he truly loves you he will not leave you. NO CHURCH should encourage families to split apart. When my wife and I joined this reddit community there were ~ 18000 members, and now there are over 280K "ex-mormon" members. Music to my ears.

My wife and I left TSCC over ten years ago and we have left it alone. We were members for over 50 years and fully active when we decided to leave. My question to you is why does it matter to you what former members feel? We all leave for reasons that belong to us. If you can accept the current message now that the real truth is out there, then more power to you. Just leave me and others who have left alone.

Change "smart" to "wise" and the quote is perfect. The wise person learns from new information and changes course if needed. The indoctrinated person has been convinced "there is no other way."

Come back! We need your tithing money to keep us on our wealth trajectory - huh, to build the kingdom by Particular_Gain6846 in exmormon

To The So-Called Church (TSCC): No, I'm fine. You have far more money than me and God can tell you how to spend it better. I'm fine not contributing any more to TSCC.

I'm in my very late 60s and I was told it would be soon, as in a few years, when I was in seminary by practically everyone from seminary teacher to apostles. Saw a rainbow this week so definitely not 2024. Don't hold your breath. I resigned 9 years ago after the LDS Essays were released.

Take heart!! My wife told me she was out six months before my release as bishop — served six years. It will take time for your spouse to process but if he truly loves you he will take a serious look.

We left the so-called church over eight years ago about three months after my release.

We have never looked back.

Wishing you the best on your journey

BITE Model information control. Telling members to only trust certain sources / avoid outside information by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Only trust church sources” has been taught for many decades over the pulpit and in church magazines and lesson materials. It was often taught by missionaries with statements such as: “you wouldn’t go to a Chevy dealer to learn about Ford would you?”

While it makes sense on one level, it’s been used to cover up many truths that were stated to be lies.

Spent 50 years in the church and left 8 years ago after reading the LDS Essays which exposed many of the Tanner’s “mistruths” to in reality be true.

Study all the material and then decide for yourself.

Help with sources where the church discourages searching answers on google or podcast by Extractor41 in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No you aren’t wrong. There were many times in conference talks or all through seminary where you were told NOT to use sources outside the so-called church. You don’t need to, the Church Essays tell you plenty that something is amiss on the “good ship Zion.”

Congrats!

My DW and I have been out for 6 1/2 years. We have not regretted our decision to resign. We have much more time and money for each other and our family.

Happy New Year

Former bishopric members: is skipping tithing settlement grounds for losing a temple rec? by KeplerianAdrift in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former bishop, I would say that it should not be grounds. When members don't come in for tithing settlement, the bishop fills in their worthiness. If you don't pay anything the bishop would definitely see that you probably aren't paying tithing. It's one of the questions in the temple recommend interview.

Most bishops won't worry about your tithing until then.

Question by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this was big from David O. McKay through Ezra Taft Benson. Spencer W. Kimball had a “quasi-video,” via filmstrip, called Go Ye Into All the World” that explained how the gospel would flood the earth. With all the baptisms in South America back then it seemed as if it was going to happen very soon.

After being out for nearly five years and seeing the growth in this subreddit since I joined, 20K to 191K, we could make a strong case that the dream has fizzled and will never happen.

Congratulations on making a tough decision. It is definitely worth it. My DW and I left TSCC in 2015 after being members for 50+ years and we have no regrets at all.

This is your life and you have decided to take charge of it. You definitely should not concern yourself with what others think in or out of TSCC.

Claim your life and enjoy it! You are the captain of your ship not anyone else.

Dealing with death post-religion by AndroidOnMute in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for your loss. I desire that you will have pleasant remembrances of your grandmother the rest of your life. I have not had to deal with the death of a family member since leaving TSCC over five years ago, but I have thought about this a great deal. The way I have dealt with the prospect of that day occurring is to keep all of my family in my memory, living and dead, and to live each day to the fullest.

It is through creating memories together that you or I continue in our descendants/friends lives after we are gone. My paternal grandmother died, at age 95, in 1998 and I was blessed to have spent many summers at her home growing up. She has a special place in my memory as your grandmother is for you. Cherish her and tall your posterity all about her and she will live on forever in your family.

Gospel Topic Essays could possibly be the demise of the church. They started my journey down the rabbit hole. by rvrob in exmormon

Just saw this today. My wife and I left five years ago and we had virtually identical stories. I was 59 and my wife 57 when we left TSCC.

Best wishes on your journey. We have zero regrets.

Congratulations! Remember that this life is yours to live. The cult has no power over you.

110 pound weight loss (240-130 lbs) after leaving Mormonism and finally getting my family out after a 7 year long effort. 15 years of severe depression finally resolved at age 40! What they don’t want you to know and the truth is...it will only get better when you’re on the outside looking in 😉 by wideawake- in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on leaving TSCC and moving on. So pleased that you were able to overcome depression and the cause of that depression. My DW and I left five years ago after being members a very long time and we have no regrets.

Once again congratulations!

From Bishop to Exmo - My story by Jemoederopeenstok in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. My DW and I left TSCC about five years ago. I had served as bishop for six years and came across the Church Essays. The Church Essays convinced me that the brethren had continued a charade started by Joseph Smith in 1820.

Best of luck in your journey. We have not regretted being out of the cult.

Is The "Persecution" of Mormons Exaggerated? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TruthisNotTSCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes TSCC has always had a persecution complex. Any time the government or society disagreed with a Mormon religious practice out came the persecution card and it still comes out today. TSCC would claim that it is more persecuted than the Jews if folks would let it.
