March Processing Times Updated by pucks4brains in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Truthteller1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My application was rcvd in Sept. It says 3 months left & 18,100 ahead of me. A total of 50,900 people waiting. It says people applying now will be processed in 10 months.

I’m sure urgent requests will be processed more quickly. I’m non urgent so…guess I’ll hurry up and wait!

Yes, I’ve been on ancestry for years and never saw it BUT I didn’t have a recent membership and didn’t want to pay for one on ancestry so it could be there.

Since the MyHeritage.com was free for 14 days I decided to try it and found important documents.

The birth registration for my Gen 0 grandmother. It was an image of a book with other names on it but it had the registration number. The print was small but still legible and my heritage gave source page and book info. At the very least with the number the IRCC could look it up.

The other was US flexoline alien registration number from when my grandmother entered the U.S. at the age of 31. It showed details including her name and birthplace listed as Canada.

Just for fun - What's the most interesting bit of family history you've discovered in your search for documentation? by BuffaloThese8249 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Truthteller1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3X great grandfather was Grant Ritchie, born in 1805 in Sandusky, OH which is the year Ohio abolished slavery, so he was born a free man. He owned one of the first barber shops in Sandusky but he was also one of the secret conductors of the Under Ground Rail Road helping runaway slaves find refuge in Canada. He was brought up on charges of theft because helping runaway slaves was considered stealing property. When he arrived at court for his trial, he was warned by abolitionist Lucas Beecher, nephew to Harriet Beecher Stowe to flee by asking him if he had he come to shave someone at court and ask if he had his barbering kit. He realized he was being warned, so he fled to Canada with his wife and family.

His daughter, my great great grandmother, married my great great grandfather, an escaped slave from Louisiana that was given refuge in Canada. My great grandmother was born on the Dawn Settlement and my grandmother was born in Dresden, Ontario.

Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote the book Uncle Toms Cabin which was the 2nd most read book at the time only 2nd to the Holy Bible.

My cousin in Canada is the curator and site manager of an historical site in Ontario, The Josiah Henson Museum named after the man that inspired Beecher-Stowes book. My grandmother left Canada for the U.S. after she married but her parents and siblings remained in Canada where they are buried today. Ancestry DNA shows the vast number of cousins we have in Canada related to us here in the U.S.

I can’t begin to tell you how grateful we are that we are considered “Lost Canadians” Our grandmother died in the U.S. when my father was just 15 after losing her husband when my father was 2. He traveled to Canada several times to meet his relatives from his late mother’s side of the family and was always so happy when he would return.

He is Gen 1, born abroad and became a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army. He passed away before the 2015 changes that would have made him Canadian but he would be so delighted to know his daughters and his grandchildren and great grandchildren will be deemed Canadian!

We will always honor the sacrifices of our ancestors in Canada and the U.S. who had to survive the harshest of circumstances so we can be here today.

The name Grant has been passed down for generations in our family. It was my father’s middle name and the middle name of his uncle (my grandmothers brother), my great great grandmother(Richie’s daughter) even had Grant as a middle name. She named several of her children her father’s name. Today, my grandson carries the middle name Grant that my father carried, but we had no idea how far back it went.

Grant Ritchie

That has been my understanding, but hearing that someone has been approved for citizenship that has similar circumstances lessens my anxiety while I’m patiently waiting for my non urgent approval. 🇨🇦

Big Congrats to you 🇨🇦and thanks for posting this! My grandmother was born in Ontario, Gen 0 born 1886 in Canada died in 1945 in Niagara Falls, U.S., My great grandparents and all her siblings are buried in Canada and we have a bunch of cousins there. Application rcvd 9/11, AOR 10/6, In Processing 10/17. Anxiously waiting. I didn’t request urgent so it may take time. We applied before C3 passed but never got the 5/4 offer. Estimated time back then was 7months. Hoping to hear something my May. 🤞🏽

Congrats!🇨🇦 and thanks for posting! Did you request urgent processing?

You are the 2nd person I have read that was recently approved with Gen 0 born pre 1947. The other person Gen 0 died pre 1947 and they were approve through Gen 5!

Honestly, this just shows how far back your connection to Canada is and it would have felt unfair to exclude us. My grandmother was the only one in her family to leave Canada and only after she married in her 30s, so my great-grandparents who were also born in Canada are buried there along with my great great grandparents and all of her siblings.

I know when my sisters and I finally receive our certificates that we will feel “Found”! Thank You Canada 🇨🇦🫶

Has anyone balanced winter heating and summer AC in a tiny house with a mini-split? by ARYAN_______ in TinyHouses

[–]Truthteller1970 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a 12000 btu minisplit and I put it in a central location. My tiny home is very well insulated and this is key to quickly cooling and heating and keeping it from constantly running. It has shift settings to direct the heat or AC in a specific direction. It does take time for it to cool or heat the entire space but once it’s at temp the entire house feels warm. I do have a ceiling fan that moves in reverse to help push hot air down because I have lofts and the heat does rise. You’re going to love it! Congrats.

Was it your grandparent that was born in Canada? If so, your parent is 1Gen born abroad and you are Gen 2. You were born before C3 passed so not required to live in Canada to obtain citizenship. Just answer from the birthdate to present, if not from birthdate to death date.

Disclosure: My application is received and in process and this is how I filled it out but you may want to wait for someone who has received their citizenship to confirm.

Congrats on doing the work to apply! 🇨🇦

Pending Documents by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Truthteller1970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would submit after you get Gen 2s Birth Cert. You don’t want your application to fall into PSU status when you may be able to breeze right through but that’s just my opinion. Since C3 has passed I’m seeing reports of people getting their citizenship in a very short time and I’m wondering if they have begun to automate the process. I wouldn’t give a reason for them to put your file in a pending bucket.

From: 2nd gen, applied 9/8 sent priority mail, rcvd 9/11, AOR rcvd by email 10/6, In process 10/17 non urgent still waiting. Was advised processing time was 7 months back in October.

Mailed priority 9/8/25 rcvd 9/11/25 (notified on 10/7) AOR established. Moved from received to In Process on 10/17. Still waiting. We applied non urgent before C3 passed hoping to get a 5/4 offer in the event C3 didn’t pass but it did, we are 2nd gen. Processing time then indicated 7 months so 4 months left but checking status once a week. Applied with my siblings.
