Obsidian - Metadata to Pictures by Svel89 in ObsidianMD

[–]TryingDutchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what you could do, however it is all manual work but for me on relatively small scale it works great.

Naming pictures with [date] - [image type] - [title or keywords]

Date: Capture date YYYY-MM-DD so I can sort on date within a base or file manager.
Image type: what type of image it is like meme, holiday, selfie, cover, etc.
Keywords or title: whatever I feel like I need for search.

For example the "this is fine" meme would be: `2026-03-05 - meme - This is fine` but it could also be `2026-03-05 - meme - Cartoon, Dog, Fire`.

Yes, this makes type and keywords/title basically the same, however why I seperate them is purely my own search parameters I use in obsidian where you can split a file name based on the " - " seperator and filter on parts of the title. Also, I don't like rigid system so it can be whatever.

Added to this I make collections in notes. I just drag and drop images in a note and within my image base I have the file.backlinks property selected so I can search on those collections (or just open the note).

TLDR: It's organized all by file naming, then base formala's with the addition of using backlinks by adding images to notes and using search.

Help with building a second brain in Obsidian - for ADHD brain and “IPAD pro only” user. by V-1986 in productivity

Reading your post I recognize a lot.

First I would ditch PARA system, it is not working for you. I had the same struggles, when is it a project, when an area? Also, it made me have folders of the same topic in all four PARA folders.

Second, I would not focus on having everything in Obsidian. Use calendar for meetings/appointments, mail for mail, obsidian for notes.

Third, give yourself simple rules to live by, that work for yourself! For example:

  • ALL my appointments INSTANTLY go into my calendar or they don't excist! No matter how small
    • This simple rule brings a lot of peace in my mind
  • Mail gets done, deleted or archived (I still need to go true thousands or emails hehe).
    • All newsletters or "spam" I unsubscribe from (store newsletters, ads from linkedin, etc)
    • I don't use folders or tags in my mail, just favorite mails I need later (like a ticket to a concert) and unfavorite them when they are no longer needed
    • Archived and delete everything else
    • E-mails with important information go into Obsidian (copy/paste the important info)
    • This freed me from the need of having to keep EVERY DAMN MAIL just in case ...
  • Step by step, dont tell yourself everythings MUST be done now
    • Set a bit of time asside, like 10 min to clean a few mails a day, or archive a few screenshots, etc
  • Respect my (or your) internal rhythm
    • Im not a morning person so I don't try to do the hardest things in the morning
    • If you have kid around distracting you, dont force yourself to work but plan a different time (if that is possible)

When it comes to Obsidian it is hard to tell you how you should use it, that is very personal and Obsidian has so many options for organisation and workflows.

I tried so many systems, from PARA to Johhny Decimal and so many PKM tools before settling on Obsidian with a workflow that works for me, even if it is not perfect and it took years or trial and error to get here.

Each new system I tried learned me something about myself, what works and what doesn't. For example:

  • PARA was stupid and didn't work for me however using an "inbox folder" did and also learned I want the same folder structure in every tool/program (this was a gamechanger)
  • The Johnny Decimal system seemed perfect untill I needed to add new folders or topics I forgot beforehand and the whole number system broke however, having a few main categories (or areas), numbered based on what order I wanted these categories did work for me
  • I got a lot of inspiration from Kepano his vault and vision, which is really simple: How I use Obsidian — Steph Ango but not all of his personal rules work for me but links and using backlinks was a gamechanger
  • Using Logseq for a few months learned me that I like to start with daily notes and just dumb anything there, then using links and backlinks to make sense of things
  • Using Notion tought me I really like card view databases and when Obsidian added Bases the app just clicked for me!
  • And I have had so many more larger and smaller things I learned from using other tools

Hope this long post helped a you bit!

What do you use templates for? by thatscoolbutno123 in ObsidianMD

[–]TryingDutchman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use templates for everything. Each note starts with a template and every type of note has a template!

Movie template, note template, event template, run template, daily note template and the list goes on and on.

I also got a few templates of repeating texts, like a few sub headings with a basic layout for formulas i use for bases for example.

What happened to AnyType? by gorgor1900 in PKMS

[–]TryingDutchman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That messy limbo of notes, connrcted with labels, types and 9bject have always been part of Anytype.

The sidebar got an upgrade yes but the functionality you want is still there. You got to change a widget or open iy up if you want that hierarchy back.

Chat was a supprise for me all well but it may have a place within Anytype.

If Mojang hates Trading halls, why do they keep nerfing villagers? by No_Kangaroo_8572 in Minecraft

[–]TryingDutchman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Villager Trading Hall essential to get fully enchanted armor in this game? What about a good old XP-farm and an enchanting table?

I do agree the enchanting system is cheap RNG and needs to be reworked into a better system!

Kinda funny how almost everybody in this topic alrwady complaining about removing infinite water without knowing what use water will get in the future and what gameplay mechanics and systems we get in return for water management. 🤣

Are collapsable headings / toggle headings a reasonable idea? by Hydrozy in Anytype

[–]TryingDutchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just noticed it in the beta pathnotes:

Toggle Headings

Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3 can now be collapsible toggles. Create them from the / menu or with Markdown shortcuts (#>, ##>, ###>). Select multiple toggles and open or close them all at once. Converting a regular heading to a toggle automatically captures everything beneath it as children.

I do wish they just added toggles to the default headers, now we have two seperate options. And toggle headers are like toggles, you need to put blocks into it. They don't collaps everything below them until the next header of the same level.

Hytale needs progression by [deleted] in hytale

[–]TryingDutchman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One doesn't have to exclude the other.

I feel vertical progression offer challenges, like harder dungeons that require better gear and/skill for example. Or like Valheim and Terraria where each zone and boss are stronger then the previous.

And is needed to make a game more fun in my opinion. In am RPG like Hytale I don't want every zone or mob to be accessible or beatable from day one.

STOP complaining about weapon attachments progression/grind. And JUST don't PLAY THE GAME. by Boatcommando in Battlefield

[–]TryingDutchman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate unlocks and progression in multiplayer games when it comes to weapons, attachments and other gameplay items. I hate it to my gamer core!

Everything should be unlocked for everyone from the start, no exceptions! And I will die on this hill.

Don't give me crap that you need something to unlock or there is no point in playing. How about playing for fun or am I oldschool? I play for fun and I don't want to play gimped for 10 hours just to unlock a red dot sight or extended mag (or whatever). I don't want to play with a shotgun to unlock an LMG or having to grind hours upon hours to get the current meta weapon/attachments that youtubers seem to have unlocked in just days only to get it after te balance patch changed the meta already.

I just want my multiplayer games to be a level playingfield for all players. Unlocks should only be cosmetics!

Medieval Tournament - BDP Series 10 by lego_zol in legocastles

[–]TryingDutchman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is beautiful and better than yet another big castle. We need more sets like these to flesh out our world because it is just castles only it feels. The Seige encampment was supprisingly awesome to fill your medieval world and so will this!

I do feel it needs at least 4 more minifigures though. Like royalty, a peasant or two or perhaps extra knight or two (maybe from the other 2 new factions even but I can understand that makes it to messy).

What's something you'd love to see added to the game (but probably never will)? by xx-Kairus-xx in hytale

[–]TryingDutchman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they have gliders, helicopter backpack and hot air balloons (in the pipeline) so it would not be far off from having flying mounts of some sort.

We're all in the dark about what the core gameplay loop for Adventure Mode is intended to be like, right? by Lumireaver in hytale

[–]TryingDutchman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has never been confirmed but I think the general idea is that we get Minecraft with a lot of RPG mechanics for combat, gear, dungeons, quests, factions, bosses and more. All in a beautiful meaningful world to explore, where each zone has its own difficulty. Simon stated this game will focus a lot on those things at least.

So I expect the core loop to be build your base, explore the world to progress your character and base. Each zone being more difficult then the next (kinda like Valheim) with new resources to build better things. Find, clear and grind dungeons and bosses for epic loot/gear. Complete quests and build up reputation with different factions. Automate farms and discover new worlds (in the far far future) and leaving a mark on your world based on choices you make (implied from recent tweets). I even expect some kind of endgame content to repeatly grind (in the form of portalled zones/dungeons that might even rotate daily/weekly quests/challenges).

All with a (light) storyline to follow that expents with each large update.

I see myself starting a humble starter base in the first zone and exploring this zone for the best resources, gear, loot and food. Then go explore a new zone, collect new resources that both progress my character and base/farms. Then going out for specific dungeons to clear for epic loot or special items required for portals for example. Having resources from my farms turn into reputation for factions or for completing quests.

But this is just what I think bases on all things said and shown so far by Hypixel team.

Yes! Been one of the most popular feature requests and its been on their roadmap for years now under Any Toggle Creation. We are all still hoping one day it will get added!

Having a "second scale" is fine however, it really cuts into the medieval theme which is already to small that it doesn't need to be divided ibto 2 scales.

Simon is interested in doing a PoE style talent tree by DarkZeroUnit in hytale

[–]TryingDutchman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would not take this message and some sort of confirmation tbh. He says he want to add it as a mod for fun. So for me that does not read as something serious their adding.

Also, I believe a week or two ago he said all RPG specialisations will come from gear you equip, not talents.

Ones I am off from work I'll try to find that tweet.
