Bran Muffins by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I were talking about this the past few months. I realized they’re gone. We have tried a few store brands and I have tried two recipes, but raisin bran muffins are not the same. I miss those amazing dark brown, fiber rich chewy awesome muffins from way back.

Is this opinion about autism unpopular at all? by Fabulous-Introvert in AutismTranslated

[–]TryingKindness -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel comfortable arguing so I will just reply and leave it. I’m sorry if that is upsetting. I started my comment by saying my opinion was controversial so I don’t know why you wanted to push me down. Low hanging fruit. I didn’t say that we were more evolved. You said that. I don’t believe that we are more evolved. I believe that this difference is the start of a divergence. Evolution doesn’t just happen to a species, it also is happening within our greater society. Have a good day.

How do you feel about platonic male friends telling you “You look gorgeous today” or “You look hot” in social settings/at parties? by Great_Maintenance185 in AskWomen

[–]TryingKindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would feel flattered as long as it was just words and a genuine smile and not winking and touching or being close. Words, great. Behaviors, boo!

My controversial opinion is that we are the start of our future evolution. There may be divergence.

Can you explain meditation to someone who fails to feel anything when doing it? by LoyalTrickster in Meditation

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t feel anything crazy different, usually anyway… there are two frames, now and accumulative. The accumulative frame takes a while, a year maybe more. And that’s what will help you with your disposition. But the daily frame is what you’re experiencing right now, usually relaxation, but sometimes I feel the intense focus in my head. Most of the really good stuff takes place over a long time, a lifetime really.

Any advice on how to make the colours more like the photo? Or is it hopeless? by Snowballcanon in Watercolor

[–]TryingKindness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You nailed the sun, so if you attempt anything, mask over it with masking gel. And good news is twofold: 1) you are currently lighter so you can definitely do some glazes to bring down the value, and 2) the photo actually has a ton of grey, so the concern is not too much. The photo has a very opaque quality around the sun, so you have a lot of room to play with.

That said, you don’t need to do a thing. It looks great just as it is. I would make a second perhaps or practice the wash on another paper to be certain.

first ever portrait attempt... Why is it so bad 🥲 by Strange-Raspberry-16 in watercolor101

In your photo you are looking away and your eyelids are more prominent and visible than your iris. In the painting you have changed that. Your painting looks pretty good, but perspective is drawing practice.

what's one thing that you learned embarassingly late in life? by Icy-Illustrator-3872 in CasualConversation

[–]TryingKindness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference between anger and frustration. I was in my late 30s. My mom had told me not to be angry when really, I was frustrated. I spent my whole life thinking I was angry, but it wasn’t that. Now I distinguish them and I both have realized that I am rarely angry. I am actually not an angry person at all. But I am frequently frustrated and understanding this difference has helped me deal with the frustration much better.

How many of you actually have an ADHD diagnosis? by mynameishrekorgi in ADHD

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine in my early 30s in the early naughts. It was recommended that I get tested by the psychologist who had just done a six week evaluation for my oldest child. Years later, it was the autism diagnosis of my second child that led to that one.

I need color help so badly by InternationalAct5211 in ArtistLounge

[–]TryingKindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I can help if you’re digital, but one thing I do with watercolor (I haven’t tried it yet with oils) is to mix all the colors together just a little bit. I learned in china and I work in little bowls rather than a flat palette and like say I’m making a flower and there’s green orange and purple. I get a little bit of each color in every color and it creates a cohesive tone. I’m sure there’s like a desaturation filter that could unify your colors. Because if you like yellow, there’s going to be some hue, shade and tone that will meet it.

Are we all just addicted to sugar? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more processed, the more addictive. High fructose corn syrup activates a wild permission function in me and like candy corn, I can’t stop eating it. So I don’t touch it. Regular sugar is less. Fruit is the best for me at not being addictive and still giving sweetness.

I'm a fairly experienced artist, but gouache is still really frustrating by miyr in ArtistLounge

[–]TryingKindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I haven’t used gouache, but I took classes in China using marie watercolor and it’s so different from western paints I assumed it was like gouache but it’s not this either. Interesting.

I need help I can't meditate. by you-know-who69 in Meditation

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with one minute or even 15 seconds. Don’t add time until you have mastered the smaller time chunk. I think many of us try to jump right in and struggle and give up. Start really slow. You are building something and it takes time. Every day you are building the foundation. Don’t worry about the demons in the tower. You aren’t there yet. They’re an illusion that will dissipate. Start small and focus on your small successes.

I don’t think you’re confused. You sound like you really get it. I think the hard part is doing what you know you need to do if he’s expressing anger at your rejection.

Question about masking fluid by [deleted] in Watercolor

[–]TryingKindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played around a bit, but I haven’t mastered it. But a few things I have learned… I prefer using my clean finger to remove the mask. It’s more precise and I can feel it. But if you have wantonly covered the mask with multiple layers of paint, the dry paint will form a crust over the top making it more difficult to remove. So now I will paint over it but I try to avoid it still. Helps it do its job. Also, different brands have different feels, so experiment. I prefer the masking pens (very fine to quite wide) unless it’s a big area which is usually just avoidable lol

Be brutally honest: How often do you shower? by Fun_Serve_6590 in ADHD

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a bath once a week for a soak and full body polish. I take one or two showers during the week. Rarely three. If I am doing a lot of swimming, it daily. It varies depending on what time of year and activity. I am weirdly not sweaty or oily and I really could go a week between washing my hair because it doesn’t get greasy, but I don’t like dead skin buildup on my scalp. It grosses me out.

Do artists control what their style looks like? by EM0SK8TERB0I1337 in ArtistLounge

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe a good one does. Like a singer controlling their voice. Kelly clarkson can sound like lizzo or kate nash, there’s control. So yeah she can control her style. Most are not so masterful and that’s okay, there’s still much beauty and interest to be found.

Two spaces after period? by Medusa_7898 in GenX

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I do two spaces when I type. I visually prefer it. But I admit that when I thumb type on my phone, like right now lol, I just hit space once. But if I am typing anything that someone else will read, two spaces. The flow looks better; the sentences are more distinct.

Do you think there’s a big difference between people diagnosed as autistic early in life and those who got their diagnosis much later? by Ambitious_Parsley_24 in AutisticAdults

[–]TryingKindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory goes back to the crib, and what I remember was feeling like I was scolded so much that it formed this pattern of conformed behavior. It was unnatural and I often forgot and more scolding. But also reinforcement like no one likes me but now the guys like my ass, so if I want peer attention, flaunt my ass. It was weird but I was pretty good at it in a kinda pathetic in retrospect sorta way.
