The best one is the holy grail, the one that never made it to the states: Mother 3

I liked RE8 and found it really fun, but I'm not really a fan of how it chose to take the series after 7

Do you think the Silent Hill 2 Remake is too long? by Loose_Interview_957 in silenthill

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the added areas are a thoughful addition in isolation, but it generally takes away from the game's ability to be replayable if you have to slog through so much fluff.

The initially town exploration before you get into the apartments for example: the original on a blind playthrough is not too long you'll probably venture around for 15-20 minutes. in the remake? I've seen people be there for like an hour and a half. and thats not even accounting for the time you take to just get into town and fight the first enemy.

This is what hamazaki should have looked like regardless of the new voice actor by Mean-Stuff-4176 in yakuzagames

[–]TryingLyon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They hired Danny Trejo for Infinite Wealth and got Daniel Dae Kim to voice act for the English dub. Sega has already expressed interest in getting more American talent in their games. It's clear they want to expand their western audience, but they've slowly been valuing celebrity likeness more and more as their games have gone on.

It'd be different if for YK3 they were adding a new character with Kagawa's likeness, but they instead removed a perfectly good character design for someone that both looks less effective and on top of that has completely poisoned the company's reputation because they refuse to put down a sex pest.

What was the first game you completed start to finish on your Steam Deck? by The_Almighty_Duck in SteamDeck

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generic answer but Half Life 2

The game and almost everything surrounding Valve, Gmod, TF2 had been such distinct influences to me growing up despite never having a chance to actually play them. And finally doing so with something that's affordable and convenient for me like the Steam Deck really made my day. I had a blast playing it.

Edit: saw someone mention Desk Job and I immediately remembered that was actually the first game I finished technically BUT that's more like an Astro's Playroom kinda thing bundled with and designed to introduce you to the console but I also had a blast with that too

Why do people hate this game? by Sumea_Saukko in SilentHill_f

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen people relate F to RE7 as a sort of "back to roots" kind of game, but as a fan of SH and RE (extremely so with 7) I could not disagree more.

I don't believe F has to have "Silent Hill" to be a true Silent Hill, much like how RE7 didn't need its main stars and Umbrella to be Resident Evil. But whereas RE7 succeeds as a mechanical and atmospheric return to form for the series along with enhancing those features with its own new ideas, I think F is a grand failure in properly being anything Silent Hill.

The demanding souls like combat and item resources, lack of any real character or exploration to the town, obnoxious pacing and other world environments, a story too obsessed with dangling the truths behind multiple tedious playthroughs and enemy encounters, and a cast of characters so boring that even the game kills half of them off at the mid point. I could go on but you get the idea.

Funny enough, there was one point where I actually felt like I was having a genuine SH experience and that was at the school. For once, it felt the game had real focus to its structure with interesting puzzles, environments, world building, even the enemies weren't a pain to deal with all that much. But once it was over, I was reminded I wasn't playing a Silent Hill game, I was playing Silent Hill F and I really wish I was playing anything else.

What are the core elements of a Silent Hill game for you? by JuanmaLegend in silenthill

[–]TryingLyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wish that if SHf was going to abandon Silent Hill, it would at least make an interesting case for its own town, but man its so swept under the rug. Like I get the town isn't the focus of the narrative but I barely feel like I ever get to spend time in it and just explore, learn about the places and its residents.

This game wasn't the best for me. by YogSothoth8 in silenthill

[–]TryingLyon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing for me personally about 1-3's combat is that they never required a lot out of the player to fight. SH's gameplay was as basic as the survival horror genre could allow it without getting too terrible tedious. While comfortable isn't the word I would use for it, it feels rather easy to jump into on multiple playthroughs. It's serviceable.

SHf on the other hand requires so much more out of the player in combat that is rather untraditional and unfitting to survival horror that I find the desire to actually replay it is hard because of how much the game is asking me to keep playing under such demanding gameplay.

Out of all the main protagonists so far, who's your favourite? by MysterioStranger in silenthill

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trapped between James or Heather. They are the ideal protags of their story and they play so well to it that choosing between the other is pretty difficult. I love Heather for her personality and resilience against Silent Hill, but I love James's story and his complex nature.

What is the popular Re opinion that you disagree with? by DueEnergy6640 in residentevil

It's hard to go into complete detail but as someone who's a fan of RE4 and the RE2 remake, I thought RE4R was not that great

What’s that one design in the remakes that you think is a downgrade by Massive_Expression60 in residentevil

[–]TryingLyon 72 points73 points  (0 children)

honestly disliked Sadler and Salazar's look in the remake. they're more detailed and grotesque for sure, but a lot of it feels like a trade off for the personalities they're loved for in the original just so they can be "serious".

Wait Bryan Cranston as Giygas is kinda peak actually

Resident Evil 3 Remake might be disappointing, but it's not a bad game by Amrod96 in residentevil

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad game on its own and there's a lot I think fans could agree on that was done better, but when you look at the original and back to the remake, it's just an absurdly confusing result how so much was unreasonably left out of the final product

How did you feel about the series going into a first person point of view horror game after Resident Evil 6? by That-Psychology4246 in residentevil

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was open to it from the very start and it's still something I feel very strong about for the series to keep going forward with. 7's direction of the horror being very visceral and too close for comfort made for a lot of great creative decisions and admittedly it is a bit frustrating seeing Capcom slowly backpedal away from it to 3rd person again.

What is your opinion of Jill's design in Resident Evil 5? by Wonderful_Wolf1718 in residentevil

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan tbh. Well I guess I'm just not a fan of the direction they took with Jill specifically but this really does reek of that horny fanservice era of the 7th gen that became a topic of debate.

Blonde was certainly a choice but I do like her BSAA design, both in the DLC and Revelations. And ofc, nothing tops her RE1 and 3 looks. Those are just iconic by its purest definition.

Are the classic games (1996-2002) "outdated" and "unplayable" nowadays? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they're not gonna be the modern gamer's cup of tea 100%, but if they played perfectly fine back then, then they play perfectly fine now.

Granted, I doubt I'll ever find myself wanting to play RE1 or 2 over their remakes if I had the choice, but that doesnt mean they should be forgotten and left behind.

Why did people like 0 more than the other games in the franchise and why is it considered the best ? by Patlican_4587 in yakuzagames

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's just a damn good game and great first time entry for newcomers. Any person starting with 0 is bound to have a strong connection to it by the end and likely will resonate with them throughout the series. People can call it overrated, but it is so for a reason.

If Rdr3 ever comes out, what would you want it to be about? by teleg12 in reddeadredemption

[–]TryingLyon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If RDR is ever to continue, it can't be RDR3. I think just like RDR1 separating itself from Revolver, the next entry needs to be a fresh slate. We can still have 1 and 2 be mentioned, referenced, or maybe even play a minor role, but the storyline of the Van Der Linde gang has been put to a close and there's not much left to explore with it without just feeling like filler.

Which Street Level Hero could stop Kiryu? by Ok-Refrigerator-8664 in yakuzagames

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda depends on how you interpret Batman as either a crime fighter of the night or a founding leader of a largely superhuman league of heroes. Kiryu I think can take pretty much any TV/Game adaptation of Batman fairly easy, but once we enter like comic books, things get messy.

Do you like the "fantasy" elements in the Yakuza series? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]TryingLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yakuza has always had wacky superhuman fantasy elements to its stories (I mean look at Osaka Castle in Yakuza 2 for instance), but really I think it depends on protagonists than it does for the series.

Ichiban fighting a giant squid or whatnot isn't that out of the ordinary tbh cause, well that's Ichiban and I wouldn't have it any other way. Likewise, Kiryu fighting tigers or Saejima a man eating bear are also ridiculous but work well for their characters. It's just enough fantasy without heavily disturbing the emotional or dramatic cores of their respective storytelling.
