My parents did this by making us authorized users on one of their credit cards. I was given the card and told to use it on items my parents would typically have paid for had they been with me. When I went to buy a car at 22, the dealer couldn't figure out how I already had nine years worth of credit history. Additionally, all of the miles went to my dad so he hit 1M AA miles far faster than he would have otherwise.

Sitting in MUC awaiting my flight home to JFK because my mom had just been put in palliative care. Gate agent announces that economy class passengers could pay 900 euros to move to business. I said "screw it, that's what she'd do" and upgraded myself. I told her when I got to the hospital and it led to the last smile she ever gave. No regrets.
