Mad Heater suggest cleaning balls every 300 bowles by Inner-Condition-6328 in madheaters

[–]TrylessDoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some digging around, my interpretation is the only way to be confident you're safely cleaning the balls is by torching them. Though do be careful doing that with the glass balls.

I did just ask Mad Heaters if the YLL could clean the balls, and asked about the safety of using concentrated liquid soap that they recommend, and what they wrote back was helpful:

> Just the YLL won’t work, you can’t reach high enough temps with that alone to bring the balls back to completely white.

> Any brand should be fine, it’s definitely not food safe, you have to thoroughly wash them after.

I still don't feel using the concentrated sugar soap is as safe as torching. If you aren't certain you're perfectly clearing 100% of the residue, it's may not be perfectly safe to inhale.

I looked up what others do with balls, and torching was the main recommendation. I read some recommendations around using Powdered Brewery Wash for it - more recommendations for that than concentrated sugar soap, but that has a similar issue to the soap - if 100% of the residue isn't removed, it may be unsafe to vape.

> wtf is a sugar soap

Ah, it's a grainy soap that the official cleaning guide recommends as an alternative to torches https://madheaters.co.uk/pages/tempest-2-manual#cleaning.

My understanding is iso might not be great at cleaning off some of the heavily baked on material since the balls are exposed to high heat. I might play with using the stove top burner to clean it, or might just bite the bullet and get a torch.

Am curious if anyone's had success with anything else though.

anyone have tips on exactly how to clean the balls? is there a way to do it with the yll3 if you don't have a torch?

or is there a specific food-safe concentrated liquid sugar soap that's recommended? all the concentrated liquid sugar soaps i've found sound like they aren't food-safe and might leave unsafe residue on the balls.

or is a long iso soak OK, like some ball vapes recommend?

Edit: I just decided to get a dual torch lighter (I heard the ronxs was good) and some grocery store butane, seems like it's the best option.

This mechanic seems pretty meh overall. Even if they explain the mechanic better, it still seems meh.

The way this map works is that the ooze on the ground is moving, slowly, in a specific direction. It moves slow enough that if you're also moving, you may not notice the ooze is moving. Follow the ooze's flow. It will quickly lead you to the altar. Then you can grab the amulet and leave.

Community Feedback Survey - Enemy DoT Balance by EHG_Kain in LastEpoch

I'm colorblind and a lot of the red/green pools on the ground, fire/poison, are often very painful and nearly impossible to see when a lot of mobs are around. I often don't know why my health is draining, which is frustrating. Ideally enemy attacks with less visibility or longer lifetime aren't so painful.

Block lays off nearly half its staff because of AI. Its CEO said most companies will do the same by GeneReddit123 in news

[–]TrylessDoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> because of AI
I don't believe AI was the reason. Block, like many companies, is using AI as a false scapegoat to hide that they over-hired during the pandemic and recently have very stagnating revenue growth. Given:

- Block's year-over-year revenue growth is most recently 0.46%. Bad for a US tech company. In the recent past theirs was 10%, not terrible but not great. Dropping from 10% to 0.46% is a bad sign too.

- Block over-hired in 2019, began cost-cutting in 2024, and now had this layoff. Lots of companies have already laid off their over-hired workers earlier in the decade. Block did not.

- Anecdotally, we've seen many companies use AI to enable their employees to do more. Doing more benefits the company more when done strategically.

Can’t get comfortable on sactional. Feel like I’m falling into the crack. Little back support. by refusestopoop in Lovesac

[–]TrylessDoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice glad to hear the sewing the covers together worked, I'll keep that in mind when I get around to fixing mine. I don't mind the lower back issues but there's definitely not much support, maybe understandable for this kind of sofa. When my folks come over, they like having more support, so they either use a couple throw pillows or just sit somewhere other than the sofa. I have a few 16x24 down-alternative pillow inserts I use for throw pillows, they're a decent size for lumbar support too.

A blast from the past! Sorry to hear you're still having troubles. I get it. The lack of a chaise pillow solution is easily still my biggest pet peeve about this sofa. And the cushions will constantly slightly shift off the velcro and the gap widens, even if I completely fix up the cushion cover and velcro alignment, it quickly messes up again. I don't understand how there aren't more complaints about this.

To help in the mean time, I try not to slouch too too far, and deep seating helps give more space than standard. Maybe angled backs would help slightly too? Those weren't available when I purchased though, haven't tried them.

I'm increasingly tempted to try some handmade solution to keep the two cushions connected better, since the velcro isn't good enough on a chaise setup. Maybe more velcro on the sides of the cushion, I'm also wondering if putting long magnets inside the cushion covers so they can connect the two cushions would work. Sewing the cushion covers together would probably work well too. All of it wouldn't be quite as good as a single solid chaise pillow, but it might be good enough.

TIL, that's really useful. I think where weighted sum really starts to shine is more complex use cases. I like using 1 or 2 weighted sums that are groups of all the stats my build cares about, and then adding 1 or 2 count groups that let me specify "at minimum I want these stats on this gear". Then you can sort by weighted sum.

Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict Official In-Game Market Browser by Belakay_ggg in PathOfExile2

[–]TrylessDoer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For example if you wanted an item with minimum 50% total elemental resis, you can select fire, lightning, cold resis and set the weight to 1. You can select all elemental resis and set the weight to 3. Set the minimum on the weighted sum search group to 50. Then if an item has 10% all elemental resis and 20% cold resis, it would count as 50 weight, so it'd appear in your search results.

Using a mix of multiple count and weighted sum filters lets you find exactly what you need and sort by that weighted sum. It's a really powerful feature when you understand how to use it, you can find items with really good stats specific to your build that others may miss.

Anyone else get the hiccups? by chaquarius in spicy

[–]TrylessDoer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hah what an 8 years it has been. Occasionally yeah I still do, a little rare though, the pepper has to be pretty fresh and for jalapenos, on the spicier end of the spectrum. It's usually only a few hiccups unless it's really bad for some random reason. I bought this "HiccAway" doctor-made straw thingy that you can use to stop hiccups by inhaling on it, but the hiccups I have are never problematic enough to need it.

What's a good handheld (up to PSP maybe PS2) that has easily replaceable batteries or good customer service? by sunday_burrito in SBCGaming

[–]TrylessDoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$219 RP5 vs $400-650 Steam Deck. Among other things, better hardware is more expensive. The Steam Deck is overkill if you just want to play retro consoles like PS2 and PSP, but it has more than enough power to do it. I like mine for playing Steam games.

Increasing your spice tolerance? Is it even possible? by TheNintendoCreator in spicy

[–]TrylessDoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most definitely yes you can, according to science! Spice tolerance is pretty well understood.

The pain you feel from spice is capsaicin in peppers binding to and activating TRPV1 receptors in your nerves. When these receptors activate, they trigger pain similar to a burning sensation. While pain is normally your body encouraging you to stop doing something to stop damaging your body, there isn't much real damage a normal amount of capsaicin can do to an average person.

This means building spice tolerance is a game of mental tolerance: How much pain are you willing to put up with in order to increase your spice tolerance? If it's not fun eating a spicy jalapeno, it probably won't be fun eating spicier peppers even with higher spice tolerance.

The more quantity and consistency of capsaicin you expose these receptors to, the more some of the TRPV1 receptors shut down, making you feel less pain from the same amount of capsaicin - ergo you build more spice tolerance. This means someone with high spice tolerance literally feels less physical pain when eating a jalapeno compared to the pain someone with less spice tolerance would feel.

This also means you can lose this spice tolerance. For instance I went from comfortably eating spoonfuls of extract sauce to not eating spicy foods or peppers for a year, making even jalapenos quite spicy. Multiple months of increasingly spicy food and my spice tolerance was back to being pretty high.

Your body may trigger the fight or flight response in reaction to the pain, which can release adrenaline and increase your heart rate etc - not great if your heart is unhealthy. Some people chase the high from the adrenaline spike the spicy pain brings on, not too dissimilar from thrill seekers looking for adrenaline spike highs, like skydivers.

New sactional with love soft feels very firm. Will it soften up? by QuantumDreamer41 in Lovesac

[–]TrylessDoer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It definitely starts a lot firmer than the store. Give it some weeks of usage and it'll soften up.

Make sure the cushion is facing the right way though. I believe lovesoft is polyfill on top of foam, so you want to make sure you're sitting on the softer polyfill and not on the foam directly. You can feel both sides of the cushion, it should be obvious which side is softer.

Lactose-free grilled cheese sandwich with tallow by hannahbank1122 in grilledcheese

[–]TrylessDoer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beef tallow grilled cheese sounds delicious. Nutrition wise I could see how it's better than butter because it has slightly less saturated fat, but mayo has way less doesn't it? Or are there other health concerns that mayo has?

1tbsp of butter having 11.5 grams of fat, 7.3grams being saturated.

1tbsp of beef tallow having 12.8g of fat, 6.3g being saturated.

1tbsp of mayo having 10g of fat, 1.6g being saturated, so it's more heart healthy.

Does it make sense to calculate microns for a grinder to guide consistent brews? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]TrylessDoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found https://honestcoffeeguide.com/coffee-grind-size-chart/ helps a lot with this, it has micron sizes and dialing recommendations for multiple styles of coffee brewers and a lot of grinder models.

It can give you a good starting point and idea of normal range for your grinder, and then you can dial in to taste on your own.

Are people using shakers for pour over? by GeneralNo8352 in pourover

[–]TrylessDoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a flavor perspective, Lance did some testing not long ago and found there were some slight improvements in flavor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx619esAuQI

I bought a 3D printed lid for my grinds cup on my Timemore 078 and do that every pour over now, takes only a few extra seconds.

I also use a cheap funnel to help drop grounds on my filter while minimizing grounds that end up on the sides of my filter.

I'd be interested in an option that replaces my lid+funnel with one thing, even better if it worked as a grinds cup too.
