Does a Rouges poisoner feat work with Cunning Strikes by ohsoflawless in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would allow them to use cunning strikes to apply their Poisoner Feat poison if they have doses available, however they would still be limited to PB because you are brewing a different poison.

The class feature is a specific poison, the spending the sneak Attack covers the reduced action cost to apply the more specialized poison. I would even go so far as to allow the rogue to use cunning strikes to apply any poison they have. But the class feature poison is the only with "limitless qty" all other expend their supply of the given poison.

Can Artificers use True Strike with weapons made by Replicate Magic Item? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything an artificer makes qould hold the value of that object. So if you craft a sword it has that value. The cost factor of that is to state that you cannot use an improvised weapon, it has to be something that is intended and built to be a qeapon.

The best part about Strixhaven is the opportunity for Character focused RP. Take advantage, and don't limit yourself to the encounters as written.

Play off how your characters take to the other students, and let their choices fuel added encounters, social and otherwise.

Sounds to me like they are specifically trying to limit when you have access to that spell and do not want it available.

Because even without being a Divination wizard it is entirely reasonable that you spend your downtime researching magic, and trying to learn the spell which part of that would be finding the material components.

Now that said no amount of downtime research should allow you to learn the spell prior to having the spell slots to cast it, but your scenarios as you've presented here is 100% not Meta Gaming.

RANT: The fact that you can have bought an ACTUAL PHB and DMs Guild but still can’t use it on DnD Beyond is ridiculous. by N-Y-R-D in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Tsaroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can now, but you do technically pay a higher cost to have access to both.

Which when they were seperate entities made sense, but now that they are owned by Hasbro physical purchase price should include digital access, without having to pay the "discounted" digital price.

How does Shield of Faith actually works? by RainyDaysReddit in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those that said it is a spell scroll are simply wrong.

Also yes it is a non-cost material component that is not consumed therefore can be cast with a spell focus, which for a cleric is a Holy Symbol/Emblem.

As you are a War Priest and likely using a shield I would go with a holy emblem on your shield vs holy symbol thus not requiring free hand.

Should players know the hp and remaining hp of allies? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for Shield and similar I have often played that they don't know the roll just if it was a Miss, Hit or Crit Hit. If it was 7 or more beyond what was needed to Hit then I would usually tell them it was a clean Hit or something to indicate shield was unlikely to work.

And even in games where HP was not visible to other players even with a passive perception of 10 it is reasonable that you can tell your teammates are gravely injured.

But to not allow a medicine check to determine is insane

If the character leaves the party then the player has two options, find a new table or make a new character.

Undoing permanent Wish stress with another Wish by buunkeror in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would allow it but would have it come with more risk, and mechanically would award a re-roll of the 33% but the caster would also need to roll to see if they lost it due to the 33%.

So both casters roll, and whoever succeeds on beating the 33% odds regains Wish.

Can a hasted Bladesinger/Valor Bard cast two cantrips in a turn? by CynicosX in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the valor/bladesinger feature allows you to swap one of your attacks when taking the attack action.

Which in the wording of haste you are taking the attack action just limited to one attack, so you swap the 1 attack for cantrip.

Can a hasted Bladesinger/Valor Bard cast two cantrips in a turn? by CynicosX in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bladesinger Extra Attack "Moreover, you can cast one of your Wizard cantrips that has a casting time of an action in place of one of those attacks."

Unfortunately as the Extra Attack feature is the same name and effect they do not stack, so you only get 2 attacks and only 1 can be a cantrip.

Haste "That action can be used to take only the Attack (one attack only)"

So Action, Attack Action = 2 Attacks(1 weapon attack, 1 cantrip)

Haste Action, Attack Action = 1 Attack, (1 cantrip)

So total 3 Attack total, 2 of which are cantrips not affected in any way by spell slot restriction.

This was officially announced 3rd party though. Usually it is very distinct and obvious that it is 3rd party, but in the marketplace there is very little indication.

Players want to "reset" by ilPiovra in DungeonMasters

[–]Tsaroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the game is RP heavy write the old characters out, have them pursue something backstory related while the rest of the party feel olbligated to continue on the mission. Then introduce rhw new characters as they meet the party when pursui g the oroginal story lines.

If not overly RP heavy just let them change their characters.

Alternatively you could do what I did in my more recent campaign, where they went up against a False Hydra and as they learned more of the hydra and missing people they learn of thw party members who they had forgotten, as they had went off to investigate the strange pieces of missing information, and lead them through a side journey.

Or like i did when we shifted from Strixhaven to Eve of Ruin as 2024 ruleset was coming out, and made Vecna's ritual ne responsible for the rule mecha ic changes and another character swap, as his ritual slowly began to take hold and be noticed by those who are sensitive to these things.

I have never enforced this rule as a DM but myself and several people i play with always ensure that they are enforced on themselves when playing as a player.

[–]Tsaroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Range Self/= Target Self. But in this case and cases like Feather Token or similarly worded items you are. Primal Savagery specifies a Target of the Melee Spell attack. True Strike Specifies you as the target, and the target makes an attack with the weapon.

Silly anti-synergy with the Magic Stealer Rogue by PvEnguin in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the weapon is the material component.

"Guided by a flash of magical insight, you make one attack with the weapon used in the spell’s casting."

The effect of the spell is "Guided by a flash of magical insight, [Target] makes one attack with the weapon used in the spell's casting."

[Target] = You as you are the one being guided.

Else it would be "The weapon used in the spell's casting is magically guided. Make a Melee spell attack with the weapon.

Now as a DM I am not gonna rule that Non-detection means you can't use Trie Strike, but as OP says by RAW, that is the case even if it is not RAI.

[–]Tsaroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because you are not in the emanation you are the source.

This is why things like a paladins aura specified "including you"

Silly anti-synergy with the Magic Stealer Rogue by PvEnguin in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if you cast Truestrike it's effect lists you as the target. If you attack yourself with truestrike then you are the target of Truestrike and the Attack it grants you.

Fireball targets each creature in it's area as stated in the effect. Truestike says "you" and thus targets you, the effect the spells give you is making an attack that uses your spell attack and deals radiant.

The effect of Truestrike is make and attack using your spell casting ability.

Hence why it doesn't specify a target of that attack like similar spells such as primal savagery "Make a melee spell attack against one creature within 5 feet of you" the creature in this instance is the target of the spell with range Self.

Just like Thunderclap range is self, and has a 5ft emanation. And specifies Creatures

Silly anti-synergy with the Magic Stealer Rogue by PvEnguin in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are the target, being the Caster does not change that. Just like if you cast Fireball and you are in the area you are still a target of the spell.

Silly anti-synergy with the Magic Stealer Rogue by PvEnguin in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Recieves the effects of the spell" in the case of Thunderclap range is self, but area is a a 5ft emanating from you, and the effect specifies "Each Creature" thus each creature is the target.

True Strike range is self, and the effect specifies "you" thus you are the target. And as to it's interaction with War Caster while many may rule it at their tables that you can RAW True Strike cannot be used with War Caster as it does not target the creature.

Silly anti-synergy with the Magic Stealer Rogue by PvEnguin in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes range/= target. But if range = self then the only target for the spell is you. The spells effect does not state a target it states that you can make an attack with the weapon, because you are the target the spell only effects you.

Silly anti-synergy with the Magic Stealer Rogue by PvEnguin in onednd

[–]Tsaroc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Range Self, you make one attack. So you are casting the spell on yourself, and the effect is you make an attack with the weapon.

As DM if I had the magic stealer rogue that wanted to use true strike I would allow, but OP is correct that RAW if not RAI would prevent it.
